Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... KVa1eQF3PI
Specifically its footage of Dairanger, taken by a director of Power Rangers (who makes comments at times about what he's filming, so be sure to turn your audio up!). I'm only 12 minutes in so far but its pretty interesting. The first few minutes shows them filming a stock footage scene of Kiba Ranger's mech combining with the others. Later on they show storage and you can see props from old shows. Zyuranger stuff in particular shows up but some of the props look like stuff from older shows to me. I'd be curious if anyone can pick out certain things from older shows or maybe identify what episode(s) of Dairanger they may be filming.
I'd suggest watching it while you can, because this is something I could imagine getting pulled by Saban or Toei.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
Been skipping through it to see what it contains (will watch in detail later). It looks like they were filming one of the early Kiba Ranger episodes. Possibly his debut episode? I'd have to go back to my saved videos to confirm, but at work right now. In general, if you watch the full thing, you'll see them filming some stock footage for mecha scenes, shots of old props, filming a live action scene where they show some stunts, suit actors, and even the devices that do the little explosions when they get hit, and finally some footage of the mecha fighting.
Some things I noticed among the props that I didn't recognize:
11:15 - Motorcycles. A few batches of them. Some look like Zyuranger but I don't recognize the others.
11:55 - Giant robot pieces? The red part looks familiar to me somehow. I wanna say its from Denjiman? I don't recognize the white missle/shuttle part.
12:55 - A corvette? I have no idea where this is from.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
Watched this last night. It's pretty rad. I was really interested to see that they do most of the fight scenes in lots of really small takes.
It would have been cool if they were filming the Ryuseioh puppet in action. I've heard that thing is a glory to behold.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
The mecha footage is definitely for the debut of Kiba DaiOh, so that's episode 22. The live action stuff seems to be from 21 and 22.methos wrote:Been skipping through it to see what it contains (will watch in detail later). Actually, in the video description, it says:methos wrote:(who makes comments at times about what he's filming, so be sure to turn your audio up!).
The voice is that of my producer explaining things as he videotapes.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
It's a wonder what forced perspective can do.
Those models, even as big as they are, aren't anywhere near the same scale as the suit, but it all looks fine from the camera's point of view.
If anyone knows what show that C3 is from, please do tell. There's a Corvette about that same year in a Facebook game I play called Car Town, I'd like to maybe do a replica skin for it.
I'm trying to find it myself. It shouldn't be too hard to narrow down. That's a 1980-82 Corvette, judging by the overall shape. It could be a 1978-79, with the nose changed a bit, but it looks more like an 80-82. This footage was shot some time before July 16, 1993 (the date that episode 21, one of the ones being shot, aired). The car probably wouldn't be lying around the back lot like that if it was being used, so it's likely that whatever show it was on was already over.
So... it's got to be a Toei show or movie that aired sometime between late 1977 (beginning of 1978 model year) and early 1993. Probably more like 1980-1992.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
I figured it out!
It's from Janperson, one of the Metal Heroes series. I was wrong about it being an ended show, though, Janperson was still being filmed when this footage was shot.
Here's a picture book up for auction on Yahoo Japan with a picture of it on the cover:

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
The guy who posted this on YT was Jeff Pruitt, an early PR stunt coordinator (before Koichi Sakamoto et al). They wanted to see how they shot the fights, etc. in Japan so they could replicate it here. FWIW, I don't think he ever got to do anything with the Dai mecha himself in PR. He had left the show by the time they did one PR-only fight (in the Masked Rider crossover) then nuked the zords the next episode.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
There was a season 2 episode that had a US-made mech fight between the two main Dai mechs and it precedes that Masked Rider crossover. I recall it being little more than them just standing in front of each other trading punches, but it was definitely US-made. Maybe he was still working on the show at the time?

And the episode where Rita kidnaps Saba. They had US shot footage there too.

Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
season 3, i think. i do know that ALL the dairanger footage in S3(before obtaining Kakuranger's mechas) is US made(or made for PR, one of the two)methos wrote:There was a season 2 episode that had a US-made mech fight between the two main Dai mechs and it precedes that Masked Rider crossover. Re: Behind the scenes footage of Sentai
The episode I named was in the end of S2. S3 starts with the Masked Rider.
