Garo Makai no Hana 11 released

Not a bad episode. The main story of the artist was kind of dull, but the battle really made up for it. I'm noticing that Makai no Hana is a true love letter to various genres. Maybe if half the episode were of Raiga running through a manga with Mayuri, it would have been more interesting.

A criticism that I have of this series (and maybe the series in general) is that most the time the bad guys just aren't interesting enough to justify their own individual story. I mean, did we need to take 3/4 of an episode to learn about the complexities of the crazy art woman who's obsessed with death? Or the white guy who likes stars?

Just establish the bad guy and write interesting stuff for Raiga and Mayuri and Crow to do!

Speaking of which, thanks for your 2 second guest appearance Crow. You're really justifying your existence.

But manga fight = Great.

Edit: I missed the ending theme the first time because of not paying attention. What is going on with Mayuri in that scene?

What we need is Raiga and Crow to have a good fight, be it a training fight or actually at logger heads, would make things more interesting

Drawing something like that into reality?
I think it's more interesting on the manga fight. Less good CG for the manga paper.

Overall: It's MORE MORE MORE INTERESTING episode. *thrilling* it's because of more manga fight.

And why? Why not using Crow for the manga fight?!

I see what you mean, and I would probably agree if we hadn't had the horror movie episode that did pretty much the same thing.

I enjoyed the fight at the end, where the various drawings came to life. I especially liked how the helicopter "dropped" a bomb it was carrying when it exploded, and how quick Raiga was to make use of the drawings around him. Manipulating the end of the battle by blacking out a portion of the final panel was a very clever ending that fit the manga theme.

The ending with Mayuri kind of bugs me. The audience has been beaten over the head with the whole tool vs. human debate where Mayuri is concerned, so I'm not sure why they stuck what appears to be a new piece to that puzzle in the ending credits. She was clearly having some sort of attack (From storing Eiris' seeds? Simply by being awake?), and has some type of food/medicine to stop or subdue the symptoms of the attack. I like Raiga - a lot - but if the writers want the audience to care about the secondary characters like Mayuri and Crow, they have to give us a reason, which requires screen time where something of significance happens.

Wasn't sure if I was watching JoJo or not for a moment.

I don't like how with the manga he drew as a child how it evoked sentimental feelings. Horrors are supposed to be monsters until the end.

This seems to be one of the cases where the human side is still in control. It's pretty good to have Mayuri go "Hey, you monster, you were a cool guy when you were younger, but now you're a monster and you're dead." And he's like "Awwww..." and dies.

I actually wanted a possessed to feel remorse for something fresh, and this guy seemed to when he saw his first work. Too bad he had to trample on it. Guess when you're possessed, you're on a total tilt.

Guess the horror ain't helping him much if all it did is to steal from others instead of making him better. Still, losing to some moe works. Oh wow, such irony and a low blow.

First series to have ending section with development? Something Madou Tools eat to replenish themselves?

Not a bad episode at all. Though the fictional title "Licking Candies" sounds like it could be an adult title. not to mention the "creator" of said title is a little iffy too.

I like the fact that while Raiga was fighting an Horror, Maiyuri was reading a manga the whole time. ^^

Besides, I respectfully disagree with you Takenoko. Sure you're right saying in the end knowing the guy'story doesn't add anything since he's due to death by the end of episode but it allows us to see more of Maiyuri : she's more than ever able to feel since she saw the good in the childhood manga.
I really like the slow pacing of those stories contrasting with brutal fights at the end. Thought I must admit the formula being repetitive after all these years.

Looking back at this episode, something doesn't sound right for me. Do japanese kids just buy those guro stuff off the shelves? That Makai King looks like a seinen work.

Then there's the thing with an eye-witness of a serial of missing artists. A street bum's disappearance might be ignored, but popular figures in a culture? Won't they pit all that on a guy with white robe?

Respectful disagreement, perfectly okay. I very rarely deal with absolutes (except for comedic purposes). I just think the story would be stronger if they were little stories about the Horrors that orbit the larger story of the protagonists.

I don't know if Makai King is considered guro (do we actually see the contents? Guro is also short for grotesque in case anyone didn't know). I know for a time kids were able to go into a shop and they'd be able to pull adult manga off the shelf. I don't know if Japan has become more conservative since then.

Seeing as I regularly go into the convenience store and have big-titty softcore porn mags within reach, I'm gonna say no.

For Makai King, pretty sure the page next to the page inspected by Mayuri has a panel depicting a beheaded girl, so I'm quick to assume it must be a guro-fest. Of course, this is based on things like Devilman.
