Much as another said, I do 480 on pretty much all initial downloads. Then, if I really enjoyed the series, I grab the 1080 for the final archive into Plex.
And for myself, no data caps here. We have finally been upgraded to 1000mbit, but they have not tried to do caps. 2 other providers in area, and none have tried it yet. But at $65+ for internet only, I wouldn't accept them with a cap.

1008 - I back them up on my external at least until the season is over then I move them over to my other external that has all my other toku shows I've saved over the years. Decked out with folder icons that I've found.

Reiwa: Geats, Gotchard
Super Sentai left to finish:
Shōwa: Denjiman, Goggle V, Dynaman, Changeman

HD 1080 main but any of the other two when 1080 not available. Mainly because its been my habit for a few years now and I prefer seeing videos with less blur as much as possible. Although its just a shame that the early Director Cut Movies of Kamen Rider before Fourzs were all DVD rather than Blu-Ray. Then again, do they still release Director Cut version for Kamen Rider movie recently, as far as I remember. The last DC Kamen Rider movie I watched were in Fourze.

At first, I go with SD. But when I bought my new PC in 2011, I go with HD720.
To answer takenoko's question... I have a bandwidth cap of 400GB, which was applied last year or so. I'm still waiting for my ISP's fiber connection to spread through my municipal home town.

I wish you would encode in x265 to get the same visual quality while at smaller file sizes.

The last time I checked, didn't x265 not play nicely with some of the TV streaming setups? Pretty sure it doesn't work with my TV stuff.

Re: Which resolution do you usually download TV-Nihon videos at?
I have been owning two 500MB hard drive for barely ten years since 2009. All these years, I archive the Kamen Rider TV episodes in SD while the movies in 720p. I wanted to save the TV episodes in 720p too, but too many big files forcing the hard drives full, that's why I prefer SD only for TV episodes. Nowadays, I ain't too hot in collecting anymore Kamen Rider TV episodes or movies due to most of the recent Riders are full of shitty narratives. My hard drives have enough room for more not tokusatsu movies in 720p. I could have gone for 1080p too unless I buy a 2TB hard drive.
Re: Which resolution do you usually download TV-Nihon videos at?
I usually download at 1080p because I am not hurting for space or download speed, and I just like the idea of having the crispest video I can get. I used to do 360p way back when my internet was more garbage.

I don't know what your financial situation is like, but harddrives are getting pretty cheap.

720p here. I watch everything on my computer, and I've honestly never felt the need to go crazy with it, it's been enough for me for a while so I'm fairly content to keep it up.
