We need a few good men (women too)
A new year is coming up, and there'll probably be new shows that need our subbing. But to do that we need people who are willing to do the work necessary to continue outputing these subs.
We could probably use new timers, editors, and maybe a dedicated encoder (for the encoder and editor, I'd prefer someone who had experience alerady, we'll train timers). Do we have any translators out there?
Just as a note, don't be surprised if I don't have a job immediately available. Positions on projects need to open up before I can give people jobs to do.
Second thing, if you try this out and you find it boring, please don't feel ashamed and disappear. It's really no big deal to me if you tell me "I tried this out, but I don't really like doing this". It always bugs me when people disappear for that reason.
Job descriptions:
Timers: They're given wav files and a program and pretime a show. This takes the workload off of the translator, allowing him to focus on translating. Some people can find the job tedious. It's basically staring at a sound graph and grabbing time slots. It's also one of our most important jobs, since all shows begin by getting timed.
Editor: They no good english. Mkae scripts sound gud
Encoder: If you're an encoder, you should know what this entails. TN encodes will probably continue to be xvid encodes.
Translator: Must know Japanese. Must know good English
If interested, please PM me or send me an e-mail (takkynoko@yahoo.com). Things work out a lot better if you're in our irc channel. Communication is key!
Remember that it takes time to do fansubs. If you're a super busy person who doesn't have tim to do stuff for us, this might not be something that you should be doing.

If you guys still have a spot open, i could take a crack at being a Editor.
I was Editor at my High school news paper for a month (we rotated every month), so i'm not totally dry on EXP.
Id suggest trying on a Low risk series, in case i suck, less people will complain.

Perhaps a little late to the party, but if you still need an editor drop me a line. I'd love to help.

Being an editor also means ensuring consistency between episodes.Azazel wrote:its more checking grammar, spelling mistakes, correcting some lines,
Regarding rewording things, to me editing doesn't mean rewriting lines just because you think they "sound better." In some instances rewording is OK if it's really unclear or confusing but most of the time I strive to preserve the integrity of the translation. In those confusing situations I often put suggested changes back in as comments in the script for the translator to review.

Well first of all you need to refrain from punching walls...
If you want to help try to learn the Japanese language and become familar with the vocabulary and formations of their sentence structture and try to translate the sentence into English to keep the text from being altered not to much so the message can be delivered appropiatly.
