Where do you guys buy your Mangas from?

Post by tsarashikage »

The nearest Japanese bookstore where I got my Manga's from recently closed.

There are a couple of good used Japanese bookstores I can get to but as they are used stores they don't really have much of the newer books.

Can anyone suggest some good online stores that have a good selection?

Thanks!

Amazon and Barns and Noble websites are good places to find English translated Manga. Usually I buy manga at conventions cause raws are cheaper (by a long shot) and most times translations can found OL and well ::wiggles pen::.

Thanks. I already get some of my English stuff from Amazon. I just wish more of the stuff I read would get translated or that the company that picks up the rights finishes publishing them before they go out of business (it's happened once, trying to locate copies of the original Japanese versions now, fortunately for me I can read Japanese)

The closest store for new books and magazines that I can go to now is actually in a different country. I would have to drive 3 hours into Seattle.

If your manga isn't coming out then buy them raw and do the foot work online... that is IF you have neat hand writing. I like to keep the orignal writing so I write down v instead of over >. It's a win/win situation, japanese companies sell manga, you get the books you want and save $.

I would say 'just go to your local Japantown' but then I remember that outside of California those are, kind of rare... hell I think they're rare outside just San Francisco

According to the Kinokuniya site, there's two stores in Washington (Settle and Portland.) And they do ship.

Kinokuniya, Asahiya, CDJapan, and Book Off. The first two are usually for my magazine subscriptions (even if I wince at the prices Asahiya sets theirs at), while Book Off is for the used manga, magazines, and DVDs at much cheaper prices. CDJapan is mostly for DVDs and the occasional CDs, although I do prefer picking them up at conventions since I don't have to futz around with shipping or exchange.
