Alt Title: Epic Showdown

Alright! The big episode where the two red's duke it out! It'll be a clash of ideals! A clash of passion! Oh no, it doesn't really work...

I feel like the less focus the LupinRangers get, the less exciting the show is? If you want to have the two red's fight it out, first tell us more about Keiichirou. What's the deal with this guy? What does he care about? Why is he so passionate about this? Is he just wrong in his stakes in all this? Maybe stop being such a hardass and work with the LupinRangers to take out all the Ganglars?

I feel kind of bad for Hilltop. He doesn't get to drive himself and when he does appear, he gets disarmed almost immediately. It also seems kind of backwards? Here comes another "If it were DekaRangers" point, but Doggie is the boss, he would have just sent the DekaRangers to transport the goods. He wouldn't personally go, that's not what being a boss is.

Speaking of DekaRangers, DekaRanger Robo's finisher is better. I don't understand why PatKaiser's rod glows just before he uses it as a brace for the gun. It loses a lot of drama by doing that.

They introduced a commander! I would have liked to have given him some more screen time to know what why he's so scary. At least we got a discussion between him and the blue lady. More developed bad guys, please.

Just a 3. Just okay, needed more Lupin sex.

I know this episode's gonna bother takenoko and tbh it kinda bothers me as well cause there's really not a lot of reason for Ichigou and LupinRed to fight. The rest of the plot is pretty decent but this is where you really need to have a solid grounding and it just falls flat. Would it really be so bad to just be like "Hey so we need these things to bring some people back to life and don't worry they're being stored somewhere safe where no one can use them"

The bike VS vehicle clearly is made for the police judging by the jingle while the helicopter is for the thieves. Wonder if they'll swap in future?

I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a joke when Destra said he was Dogranio's right hand guy? Cause his name means "right"?

Speaking of name trivia, this week's MOTW is based on the Humboldt penguin (I'll... take your word for it?), mixed with the word 分捕る (bundoru) "to capture/plunder" hence "Bumdoldt Pegi" which kinda sounds like a disease you'd get from a really dirty toilet.

So who's the little bird who gave Destra the info about Global Police's VS Vehicle research?? Can I ask Jeeves??

A decent fight between the Reds.
According to simpletons on the net, if I want to be a made man, I should become Amazon Sigma. I don't want to be a undead soldier though.

I would agree but:

1)
Spoiler
The fight continues next time judging from the preview
2) The reds may be battling it flat out, but the others stopped fighting each other when a serious enemy showed up. If we are heading in the direction of the teams working together, then it could be that the reds are simply the last ones to be persuaded.

Still, what is the police's link to the Lupin Collection? They need to tell us or at least give us a hint; at the moment only the Ganglars and the Lupinranger are linked to the story.

What bugged me most was something else - why didn't the Patranger personally transport the VS vehicles? They weren't even close by and they had to wait for them to appear. Talk about asking for trouble.

Ha, Luna totally called my opinion. To give a peek behind the curtain, I set up the thread with a placeholder post, then I go back after I watch the qc version to fill it in. So everyone's posts before this actually were done before I made my post at the top.

>I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a joke when Destra said he was Dogranio's right hand guy? Cause his name means "right"?

Considering Japanese have a phrase for "right-hand man" it's probably intentional.

The delivery was supposed to be a secret. The Patrangers were still at the station and unaware that HQ was sending these VS Vehicles.

The episodes touched upon some interesting ideas. The Lupin Collection has some misdirection baked into the name. LupinRed says they originally belonged to the Lupin family but that isn't true. After all, Arséne Lupin stole these items from someone else to amass them. Who were the original owners? This leads to questions about the Ganglar.

Since many are compatible with the Ganglar, it leads me to suspect that these items originally belonged to them. Arséne Lupin probably stole the items from the Ganglar.

That kind of reminds me of this thing I heard. So basically, England colonized a bunch of places and stole the good stuff from those people. They've probably had this stuff for over 100 years now, but should they give it back to their original owners? Like the crown jewels include stuff from France and from India. Their museums have mummies from Egypt. Etc. After 100 years, who does that stuff really belong to?

It's sort of like Xcom. "Let's send these four soldiers to deal with this global alien threat."

It makes me wonder if they are telling the story this way on purpose for now. Get us to be on the Lupinranger side. We get their story and a lot of focus on them, then in a few episodes there is going to be a slight change in the intro where we see the Patrangers listed first and we will then have Pat focused episdoes. Like we are supposed to root for Lupin now and thing the Pats are idiots because we only know one side of the story. Then after the two stories then we get a more united intro.

Lupin vs. Pat on a Tuesday? We're spoiled!

Anyhow, I have a more upbeat view on this episode. The first few episodes laid out status quo and gave us a bit of focus on the rangers. Now the series is shifting focus to the other things we've been asking about, like the villains and the nature of the Lupin collection. I for one had never stopped to consider that the Rangers' pieces were different than the Ganglars' pieces. But the hint here means that there is an intentional difference, and one that it will be interesting to see how its unpeeled over future episodes.

The fact that it was Destra who was looking into this is interesting as well. This means he's not the usual overprotective right-hand strongman of the big bad, but rather has more ambition and more depth. So I want to see where that goes over future episodes.

I do think Takenoko is on point though about the lack of a reason to fight, and this has been a problem since the very beginning. Both teams are heroes, so it puts the writers in a tough spot to come up with reasons for the teams to oppose each other. And so far they haven't done great here. While the Lupins are obviously thieves, the plot hasn't established why the police really care about them. I suppose the immense, world-ending power of the collection is one direction they can go - believing that it shouldn't be in the hands of the police - but it's not a very strong reason at the moment.

But most of all, Keiichirou needs more development. He's just so darned tense right now.

Meanwhile, on the choreography side, I felt this episode was a bit odd in that we never see the Rangers use their melee weapons. It was all guns all the time. And even though guns are a big theme of this season (even the Changers are guns), it looks rather strange in closer-quarters combat.

Side note about the front page picture: Until now, I never realized that Tsukasa wore short shorts. A lot of shots are from the waist-up to begin with, but even on the few shots that are framed farther out, the black leggings she wears makes the whole ensemble look very close to the men's pants. Though it does make one question why a police officer is wearing short shorts... (answer: they'll probably get rid of the leggings in the summer)

Possession is 9/10ths of the law. Keiichirou is the other tenth.:P

At least here in the US, the public gets extremely irate when public officials fly anything besides coach...

I agree on the if it's not Lupin it's kinda meh Part, was just thinking that while watching the Episode, while we do not know much about them as Individuals, we do know they share the same Ambition/Fate.
On the other Hand we know literally nothing about the Cops apart from "They are all the bad Guys let's punish them." and that's just Red anyways, We at least saw that Pink is a bit more inbetween, when she allowed Yellow to get the Collection Piece in Part 04?, as 'reward' for giving here the Intel before, so she probably prioritizes the defeat of the Ganglars.
And apart from the Insecurity that comes along with the Green Suit in the last few Years we basicly know nothing about Green...

As for Hilltop, he and Jim Carter fill somewhat the same Role, which appears to be Comic Relief. And that's probably one of the Reasons we can't really compare him to Doggie, who was very capable in his own right, and had a pretty tough love concept for his Subordinates.

The Finisher could be interpretated as the Baton being the Trigger finger and feeding the Gun some more Energy for the Bullet, but yeah DekaRobo's was probably better.

So yeah, it was a somewhat solid episode, aat least Destra got some Screentime to shake it up a bit, but they really need to work on their Pat Game for it to become a VS Series, as it is now it feels like LupinRanger vs Ganglar feat Patranger and not Lupin vs Pat.

I really hope they have some solid explanation where the GPSD gets all the Collection Pieces from in the first Place thou, feels pretty random Plot Deviceish atm when the Premise is that the Ganglars stole the whole thing.

I mean, it's genuinely tricky. (Although maybe England should give back some of the stuff they stole if it's really valuable/irreplaceable?) Politics aside, should we really be saying that Arsecnic Lupin is the original owner of the Lupin Collection, if he just stole it from somewhere else? They literally tell us that he stole it. But since he and the LupinRangers are heroes, we're biased to think that they're in the right (Versus Keiichirou's reasoning of "The ends justify the means")

Here it is to become even more tricky. see... the UK didn't just stole artifacts. it stole resources, gold, anything that had value (even people). one of the reasons so many african countries are poor is precisely because the UK stole from them. the UK's wealth itself exist in no small part due to colonization stripping anything of value from those countries. maybe even worse, is that they then took their culture and made unspeakable crimes to it.
In my personal opinion: whatever any real-life Lupin-eque person may have stolen (mostly from rich people) can never be even compared to those crimes. I am even willing to argue that, unlike countries who are legimitely requesting for their cultural treasures to be returned, since nobody is asking for the stolen items anymore, they ARE the property of the Lupin family.

On top of that, I don't know Japan's law but, in some parts of the world neither the Lupinrangers nor Patrangers would technically be "stealing" from Ganglars. For it to become "stealing" it would requrie the original owner to demand the item to be returned and them refusing. which the lupinrangers are not doing and the Patrangers have not been requested to do yet.

I have probably watched too much Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, but here is my theory on the Lupin Collection:

The objects in the Lupin Collections were originally ordinary objects of low monetary value that various humans had great affection for (such as a man's scarf, hand knitted by his girlfriend). However, an evil monster used magic to alter the object into an object that absorbed evil energy and turned the owners evil. The original Lupin stole these objects and used his own magic to turn them into powerful objects for good (and in doing so lifted the evilness spell on the owners), but could not return the originals to their owners because there was no way to turn the objects back into their original form after they became evil. After the original Lupin used these objects to defeat the monster, he sealed them in a book so they could not be used for evil, but somehow the Ganglars broke the seal.
