Alt Title: What movie is this week's episode based on?
LOL, did they throw Reinetsu's model at the train dinosaur?
Wait, being exhausted is what allows Jyuuru to meet Oladdin? Again, I'm confused as to what the lesson is. I mean, yeah, in most things it's probably actually alright in the end. But I worry the lesson here is coming a bit too lose to there's no real consequences to things, even making mistakes or treating your teammate badly.
Oh good, a Mashin that doesn't talk. But still... are they just going to find a new jewel every time they get a new mecha?
Come on you four, you can't defeat Oven Jamen by yourselves?
Was amused for a second because it looked like dino train was talking
Love the design of King Express. Cool head and chest. But super disappointed that he can just hijack dino train like that
I couldn't really figure out what this week's episode was based on. Saw on a Japanese page it could be
X-Cross Makyou Densetsu (エクスクロス 魔境伝説)
Or
Bruce Lee's Denkousekka (ブルース・リー 電光石火) which is apparently an alt name for Green Hornet 2: Fury of the Dragon https://filmarks.com/movies/26494 . Seems like a movie with way too many names
I was surprised by the Baskin Robbins commercial. Are Japanese people still going out for ice cream?

They also make the implication that they can straight up just steal the train anytime they want.
At least Garza gets so angry he powers himself up from it.

Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
I can't recall any mecha combination where one of the parts belong to the enemy and was outright stolen from the enemy. It's cool for now but at some point, they need to steal the dino train for good or otherwise it will get old. I did love the defusion to avoid getting blasted by Garza's attack. I do like King Express's design as well.
There's JaMental now. They are really pulling the magic tropes for sure.

Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
Jyuruu just stealing Garza's dinosaur and dragging him along the ride against his will was the best part. I expect to see this routine go on a few more times while King Express is still new and shiny (well, I guess it'll technically always be shiny).
And I thought the lesson was fine. The others realised their mistake and they apologised, and they even get a taste of their medicine in the end. What more is really needed?
I'm placing my bets for now that Jyuruu is somehow descended from Crystalian ancestors.

Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
It just seems weird since Jyuuru getting tortured to exhaustion is what gives him the link to Oladdin.BreadToku wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 10:45 pm And I thought the lesson was fine. I'm thinking Oladdin is still alive but in Jyuuru.

Only time will tell at this point my friend. I have a feeling it's gonna be this, Jyuruu is indeed descended from the Crystalians OR he's Oladdin reincarnated in some way...if not some weird convoluted bullshit mixture of all three xDtakenoko wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 12:35 amIt just seems weird since Jyuuru getting tortured to exhaustion is what gives him the link to Oladdin.BreadToku wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 10:45 pm And I thought the lesson was fine. I'm sure he's still alive in some capacity. It's not like we saw him get killed (just curb stomped alot).

This one was much better than last week. Jewel hijacking Jouki was amusing. I really hope Jewel's connection to Oladdin has a satisfying payoff, though I won't hold my breath.

Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
I ended up really liking that episode, which is a bit of a surprise to me since the previous episode was kind of a mess. Normally in uneven two-parters the setup is good but the series can't quite stick the landing; it's much rarer for the second part to be the strong half.
At any rate, there's no real character development to speak of here, but the writers are clearly having fun teasing us with the connection between Jewel and Oladdin. There's obviously more involved than Jewel just being imaginative. But playing with the mystery box is a double edged sword: the writers will need to deliver a big, well-constructed payoff to balance out that teasing. Which given the shaky morals of the day we've gotten, is far from a sure thing.
Speaking of morals, the rest of the Kiramagers finally get their comeuppance. I still think that should have been in part 1, and then they could have used this time to better reflect on their actions, but better late than never. I also wish that lecture had come from the mentor and not a red brick, but eh, this clearly isn't going to be a season with a strong, commanding mentor.
As for the new mecha, that turned out quite interesting. I had been wondering for a while how they'd turn a dinosaur train into a robo - since everything eventually has to become a giant robot - and I figured it would just be a transformation they unveiled later. I was not at all expecting that they'd play with the parts instead, and withhold/introduce another part to do that job.
The sheer audacity of stealing Smog Joukey to make the new mecha is fantastic. It's not just a good gag, it's tense (will he be able to keep this up?), and it's also a really good way of justifying why King Express/Smog Joukey aren't in every single episode. I also loved how they went old school and undercranked the camera to make the new mecha look really fast. It's not at all realistic, but it is amusing in its own right.
Though is it me, or is King Express a very 80s looking mecha? It feels decidedly not of this era. Which is fitting, given all the other 80s Sentai vibes in this series.
Also, just to be pendentic, you can't fix a cracked gemstone just by polishing it. In fact you can't really fix cracked gems at all; all you can do is fill the cracks. To actually fix a stone, you'd essentially need to recreate it, which is to say a lot of time and pressure. Obviously the mashins needed to get fixed somehow, but given the brilliance of cracking them to start with, I'm a bit disappointed that polishing them is what the writers came up with.

You didn't do a damn thing, guys. Jewel did all the hard work.

It does seem that way. The show is making a pretty explicit 1:1 setup between gems and mechas.
I certainly hope so. Some ice cream sounds great right about now.I was surprised by the Baskin Robbins commercial. Are Japanese people still going out for ice cream?
Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
definitely in the camp of "oh my fucking god they stole the bad guy's ride" and "we will do it any time we like".
some good things, some bad things... tired of having to justify it as "a kid's show" to blow off certain things, but...

This was a really good one, but as someone who loves trains and has worked as a puppeteer in a big T-Rex suit, I feel like Sentai has some kind of data on me they are using.

Re: Kiramager Episode 08 released
I think that Jewel will turn out to be the reincarnation of the King, the same way that Usagi was the reincarnation of Princess Serenity.
I was snickering that Jewel walks several miles to the warehouse and then tries to transform before he realizes that he was still in his pajamas.
So, all of the Kiramagers are Oni-sensei's?
I am looking forward to the combi episodes. The cast is very strong so they should have a lot of fun with the standard tropes.

In Magiranger Magired took Wolzard's horse to make a new combination, but that only happened in a couple episodes.Phoenix512 wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 9:13 pm I can't recall any mecha combination where one of the parts belong to the enemy and was outright stolen from the enemy.
