Hatte Saburo quesion for the one that know that there 日本語

Post by Kami_no_Kamen »

So, in episode 12, they talk about Hatte Saburo. My question is baed on the kanji for his name, specifically ハ、手、and 三. So... Is the ハ just in katakana, or is there a kanji that looks exactly like it? I know that katakana are just based on different radicals and evolved, but it that the case this time too?

Also with 三 pronounced usually as san, with the name is just drops the "n"? Just curious! Thanks.

Well, I sort of mention it here:

The Japanese actually call him Yatsude Saburou sometimes too. I guess since he's a made up pen name, no one bothered to keep it consistent?

Don't forget that different kanji have different pronunciations. 八 can be hachi, ha, or yatsu like above. It's the kanji for 8, not katakana. (It'd be pretty unusual to have a name be part katakana and part kanji, Japanese names don't do that unless the person is trying to stand out or something).

As for the 三, if you look under the name part, you can see there's a bunch of different pronunciations when it shows up in a name:

Oooooh word! Thanks a lot, I didn't actually notice the whole little thing on top of the kanji, so it looked like Katakana. Yeah, the kanji names get crazy sometimes, and I always forget about them, such as 本 is pronounced as moto in 山本.. Ugh, lol, I'll keep at it though!
