Alt Title: Canalo?! More like can't elope!

Nice, Bamba gets to where the MeraMera armor

It's weird that the Ryusoulgers are a different humanoid species that are able to interbreed with humans...

I still don't know how I feel about inanimate objects creating Minusaurs...

I don't get Gaisorg. One second he's helping the brothers, this time he's fighting them. Should we change his name to Gaisoulg?

LOL Canalo, are you trying to do the Arya move?

Really surprised Yui was just a normal girl. She just really dug trash I guess.

Amusing enough episode.

I'm really confused as to whether Mosa Rex was comforting Canalo or comforting Oto for being too young to get married.

So Narumi Akiko's actress, Yamamoto Hikaru, plays Yui on this episode. Haven't seen the actress for a while since Kamen Rider W.

Eagle-eyed viewers will note that at the very beginning of the episode when she's clearing up trash with Canalo, she smacks a green slipper around a bit. That's the same slipper she always used to bash people over the head with in W.

Yup, I recognized that green slipper. Which is why I have already put that trivia on our wiki.

Hot damn! A really good Ryusoulger episode! This is the first top-to-bottom legitimately fantastic episode in a long time. Where has good Ryusoulger been hiding for the last two months?

It's clear almost right from the start that this is a major episode arc, and that it's been allocated the production values to match. If Koh and Bamba sparring doesn't clue you in that Sakamoto is directing, the obligatory (and awesome) untransformed fight sequences will. It's pure spectacle, and it's fantastic. Both Koh and Bamba's actors have been absolutely killing it on these fights (and even Melto's actor got in an impressive front flip), and I'm going to miss them when this series is over. It's a rare treat to have actors quite so good at stunts and acrobatics.

The mecha fight was also rather good as well. It' s not quite god-tier like the ground combat was, but with most of the last eight episodes dropping the ball here, it's great to see a proper, flashy fight that goes on for a bit and incorporates some pyrotechnics and the like. My one complaint here is that for the second week in the row, the writers seem to have backed themselves into a corner, so punching things is solving the problem of the day for no good reason.

Thankfully, it's not an empty action episode either, and the story is able to keep pace. While Cantaloupe finding the love of his life is a bit sudden, I can respect that the needs of the story don't allow for a more gradual build-up (this is only a year-long series, after all). Past that, it's a classic hero's dilemma: protect the world at the cost of the one you love, or cherishing the one you love at the cost of the world. Not that there was any doubt which was Canolo would go, but it was handled well, and the story meshes well with his overall character arc of getting married.

On which note, we finally get an explanation for why he's in such a rush to get married! It's exactly what we all thought it would be - the ocean tribe is running out of babies - but none the less, it's great to finally have it confirmed. The only thing that bummed me out here a bit was that this information was delivered by Melto, when for obvious reasons it should have been delivered by Canolo. It's his character arc, after all.

Oh, and Nada is Gaisorg?! I'm more confused than anything else (I thought his armor couldn't come off?), but the show is clearly going to address the matter in full next week, so I'm willing to wait. Gaisorg's entire presence has been kind of stupid thus far, so I hope this means they're finally going to do something with the character. (Also, what's the over/under on whether Nada has always been Gaisorg, or if this is meant to be a very recent development?)

PS Gachireus may be a very one-note general. But it's nice to have someone whose big plan of the day is to just straight up kill everyone. It makes him a proper threat rather than just a nuisance

I'd like to think that Koh has learned to share. But it's more that he's throwing out his old power up that he no longer uses. Which is oddly appropriate given this week's garbage/recycling focus?

It makes me wonder if Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex applies here...

I don't like it. It's dumb because inanimate objects can't have emotions. If the writers just forgot about this one, I'd be happier. But I imagine it's hard to write a good victim of the week every single week, especially since that person's arc would distract from other things going on.
I'm really confused as to whether Mosa Rex was comforting Canalo or comforting Oto for being too young to get married.
That makes two of us. That whole exchange was very confusing.

I thought I recognized her from the start; the slipper removed any doubt. Ryusoulger seems like an odd place for her to show up, but I'll take it; she's a very good fit for this role. I do hope she's not getting typecast as marrying superheroes though. :o

(I had to stop and count up how long it's been since W. I can't believe it's been 10 years; and she certainly doesn't look it, either)

The whole plot of the episode might have had more weight to it if we had seen the relationship with this girl earlier or the whole marriage thing hadn't been overused as a gag so much.

It'd be impressive if the twist has been it's multiple people, that's why it probably has just been Nada the whole time.

What an upsetting way to recontextualize it!

Koh is still weak character until now, with the little development. But everything is focus on him, especially in Nada's arc.

So it's not really clear if SS Saikyou Battle is canon or not. if it is, then Nada can't have always been Gaisorg, because Rita was Gaisorg for all of 5 minutes.

I'm also trying to sort out how a student of Master Red somehow knows black & green moves, since we've previously seen Gaisorg counter Bamba, and the latter comment on how he knows their moves.

Just in case you're being serious, it's a humorous short essay written in 1969 on whether Superman could even have kids with an Earth woman.

Quoth the Wiki: Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex is a 1969 essay in which science fiction author Larry Niven details the problems that Superman would face in sexual intercourse and reproduction with a human woman, using arguments based on humorous reconciliation between physics, biology, and the abilities of Kryptonians as presented in Superman comic books. The issues discussed include Superman's loss of physical control during intercourse, the presumed "super powers" of Superman's sperm cells, genetic incompatibility between humans and Kryptonians, and the dangers to the woman during gestation. The title is a reference to Superman's power and invulnerability, contrasting it with the relative fragility – like Kleenex brand facial tissue – of a human.

I agree, Virge. seeing each of the actors doing their own stunt sequences this ep was FREAKIN' AWESOME. I was cheering this whole ep, fights felt really good, and I agree, the "sparring match" is classic and I enjoyed it.

we're starting to hit the home stretch. no more than 20 eps left, they need to start pushing a final boss. I don't think there's enough groundwork laid, and I REALLY wish they would stop using "WCOTW" (Wife Candidate of the Week) for Canalo, and give him an arc of trying to actually WOO someone, but it's a kid's show, and kid's dgaf about relationships, sadly. (Although a gag about an omiai service or something would've been interesting, I think.)

(anyone else notice the "windy" key is the one found in the Super Sentai Saikyou Battle??)

When I noticed the untransformed fight sequences happening, I asked myself "did Koichi Sakamoto direct this episode?" Turns out he did. Great fight sequences as Koh and Bamba were looking very badass with the moves they got to show. Koichi loves to use stunt doubles and block their faces but this was all them. I noticed the shift in the story and it looks like its time to get serious now. Much needed. Happy to see Yamamoto Hikaru again as well. She looks like she came straight out of Kamen Rider W because feels like she hasn't aged yet.
