Alt Title: Whadda twist

Felt like a better episode of the Ryusoulgers. But ultimately, what is the story about?

So far, the series has presented the Ryusoul Tribe as a bunch of weirdos that live a long time and sometimes they get mixed up in human affairs and maybe become our world leaders. But otherwise they're just these weird space Yodas that don't grow up very fast and seem to be low in population count according to the sea tribe.

Sooo how did we get to the point where Heras birthed them to protect the world, but ended up getting in civil wars? Are we talking about the movie where the crazy chief created the Gaisoulg armor?

And the Druidons were supposed to stop the out of control Ryusoul tribe, but ended up fleeing into space, and then they decided to take over the world? I get this is a span of time incomprehensible to a mere mortal, but how did everyone end up forgetting what their job was?

So what does that make Heras? Like some sort of Gaia figure that protects the Earth? It would have been a cool mythology if it had even the barest of set up.

Also Set dies I guess. I mean again.

-There's a barrier to prevent Ryusouls? Man, if only they had a member who had no Ryusoul transformation to begin with...
-Set, points for the armor in the ground bit, but eh on the comedy. Honestly if you can put an old man in a suit, why can't you have more lady heroes, Mr. Toei?
-Whaaat? Why is slime guy and Wiseru here and why are they the ones in the know?

I like to think that the staff had no idea what to make for their finale so, they looked next door at what Star Twinkle Precure had been doing and thought "Hmm, the enemy leader hates that people are abusing free will so she wants to delete their universe? Hey guys, I got our finale plot! Shots on me!". (The airing timeline would fit my crazy insane theory too since ep43 "Mother of Druidons" aired the same weekend as StarPuri's finale).

Very confused on everything. So many questions.

Heras (embodiment of the Earth? space orb that claimed the planet as their home? a God?) births the Ryusoul tribe, presumably to protect the planet. Is this before or after dinosaurs? Where did the Ryusoul tribe get their iconography? Were the Kishiryuu made in the image of the dinosaurs?
Ryusoul tribe fucks it up and does the human thing of fighting. Heras isn't a fan, and births the Druidons to police the Ryusouls. Unfortunately the Druidons both lose the fight, and further anger/upset Heras by adding to the damage and war. The Druidons flee into space for reasons (self-survival?). The Ryusoul tribe has dwindled in number, and pulls in on themselves. At some point they seal Heras.
Cue present day. The Ryusoul tribe has been doing their own thing and training up Ryusoulgers for when the Druidons return. The Druidons do indeed return. At some point between then and now, the Druidons have forgotten or abandoned their mission of stomping out the Ryusoul tribe / stopping the wars, and decide to take over the earth. Yet at least some of them remember Heras and that they serve her. (To what end? Why?)
The show happens, and nothing of value was contributed.
Pricious succeeds in getting the Ryusoul Calibur removed, unsealing Heras. His plan to kill off all the Ryusoul tribe is continuing apace, with resistance from the Ryusoulgers, up until Heras beams her real feelings into his brain. Pricious decides that doesn't interfere with his current actions, and continues to try killing the Ryusoulgers. Heras doesn't like being ignored, and eats Pricious in order to create her own physical representation. Cue next episode.

Where did Kleon and Wiseru go, and why do they know the truth upon their reappearance? What caused their change of heart?

The comedy in this episode was awful, and created some terrible emotional whiplash.

Koh('s actor) got a hair cut. It's cute.

LOL, the important points of the episode.

But yeah, there could have been so many ways this twist could have been really interesting. Like if the Ryusoulger were shown to be more morally ambiguous or maybe well-intentioned but inadvertently causing destruction using their powers. But as it stands now, it feels totally weightless and I'm not sure how to receive this information.

No-one even mentioned that Ryusoul Brown looks like Gaisorg. Like, come on guys, you'd think that would be noteworthy. I don't understand why they didn't just have him be an actual Ryusoulger recolour instead of Gaisorg. It would make more sense if they're gonna call him Ryusoul Chaiiro...um, I mean Ryusoul Brown.

Oh, and not related to the episode, but Ichika is out of hospital after her illness last week, so that's good: https://twitter.com/12osaki_ichika/stat ... 0669669376

The Ryusoul Brown thing would have been better if they hadn't tried to be funny about it. Totally ruined the scene for me.

The plot reveal is something at least. Happy that Wyzul is back, although was hoping he'd kill Pricious for being a massive dick..

Ryusoul Brown is just another recolored suit so what's there to be excited about, even if it is Gaisoulg?

I liked just about everything this episode had to offer. The highlight of the action was obviously the big fight with all the Ryusoulgers (plus one) against Pricious, with everyone getting in on it, and I think the reveal about Heras was neat enough. It might b because I've seen a bunch of stories about the creator of the world wanting to destroy it and it's people rebelling against said creator, so I didn't really need further explanation on that trope.

I totally understand why anyone would be put off by the jokey fight with RyusoulBrown, but I honestly thought it was funny and worked. It was a bit of a whiplash but things weren't like extraordinary dire before anyhow, the actual comedy bits I found pretty funny, and he actually did contribute to the following real fight later which was cool to see.

I like a good wham episode now and then. But wham episodes require laying some groundwork well in advance in order to make sense. Ryusoulger hasn't done any of that. Not the least of which is the fact that Heras's oddball design only has tones of Druidon (the checkerboard) and nothing that would indicate a relationship to the Ryusoulgers.

Ultimately, Ryusoulger is far from the first series to use "Gaia/Yggdrasil goes nuts and tries to impose their own rigid order on the world" as the endgame scenario. So it can work. But you need a better story to do it. Like Takenoko said "it feels totally weightless and I'm not sure how to receive this information."

But hey, at least the action was good. The writers may have checked out, but the action director and stunt team are still bringing their A-game. We got some great physicality there, and they even managed to work in the CGI attacks pretty well.

Other observations:
  • Tyramigo's language skills have greatly improved over the course of the series. It's a dumb little thing, but each time he gets a major speaking role, he gets better. It's a series-long plot thread that Ryusoulger has actually been doing a good job of developing.
  • "At first I thought you were just an energetic idiot" "It turns out, you still are"
  • Hey, Asuna actually gets to use her strength for once. 46 episodes in and the number of times where they actually use it as a benefit (instead of a joke) can be counted on one hand.
  • The Pricious suit is already starting to wear out at the legs.

Maybe Hella-sama made the knights and went "fuck it, guess I'll make the rest of the chessboard". It's cool that Pricious and the Ryusoulgers are both knights, but it would have been cool if there were like some mirroring or parallels in the motifs, theming, style, or anything at all really outside the title.

Tyramigo is okay, but I mostly only remember him for the time he played with a kid and got in trouble for attacking the kid like a wild dog. I mostly feel like the talking Kishiryuu are kind of a failure as a series concept. Most of the mute ones never show up. Mossa's only trait was being racist against land Ryusoulgers, otherwise he has no personality. And Piitan is mostly just Oto's sidekick. It just feels like they have it because past dinosaurs spoke in the previous dino sentai.

Instead of half developing the Kishiryuu, maybe they could have spent the time making the Ryusoulgers interesting characters or letting the non-red/gold members using the mecha.

The Kishiryuu as a whole are greatly underbaked. There's definitely not arguing that point. And you're probably right in that the only reason any of them talk is because past series did it. But more broadly speaking, I just thought it a positive sign that with all of the areas where the series is struggling to execute, someone at least managed to keep together a series-long plot thread like that. Small victories and all that.:)

Ha, definitely got to eke out every bit of positivity out of this series.

While I am not really liking this series as a whole, this episode revelation brings me to mind of Transformers. I am not an expert on that franchise but here is my thought about that. Autobots and Decepticons are Transformers, given life from the All Spark/Primus. Supposedly they live in peace but due to difference in thoughts and all, they got divided into different factions known as Autobots and Decepticons. Megatron decide to rule Cybertron and achieve peace through tyranny. Optimus of the Autobots want proper peace but forced to fight in protecting his allies and their future. Sorry, not sure how to explain things properly but that is what I think this whole series main point, sort of in some way.

One of these days we will get an official Brown Ranger... RIP Shinken Brown, RIP Ryusoul Brown.

This feels like one of those seasons that could've benefited from how Kobayashi does her seasons. Actually have the end game in mind. Let them do whatever they want as long as they still move towards the end game. Nothing in this episode makes sense to how the other 45 episodes went. they honestly didn't know what they were moving towards. Which really I think is the reason why this season was so poor.
