Looking for Recommendations (Japanese Infant/Toddler Programming)

Post by Ashki »

My wife and I are exposing our newborn to several languages to help him retain sounds. As my wife speaks some Japanese (she's more into anime than toku, though), Japanese is one of the languages we want to focus on. Granted, he'll be growing up with the likes of Ultraman and Kamen Rider, but we'd like to find some shows to help him pick up the language early on. A friend's two-year old has also shown some interest in Japanese.

Does anyone have some good recommendations for Japanese shows aimed at infants/toddlers that will help them learn the basics? I plan to be using Little Pim for some words/phrases, but that series has a pretty limited scope.

Mine usually watches NHK programming in the morning, which consists of Okaasanto Isshou, Inai Inai Baa, Pythagoras Switch, Minnna no Uta, and others. There's also HapiCla on cable/non broadcast, and Anpanman/Doraemon are perennial classics. I don't know if any of these are broadcast/distributed abroad, but it might be worth checking out to see if you can get NHK (though it's usually a premium channel abroad).

My son's hugely into trucks/vehicles so he usually watches a lot of Norimono Town, which puts up tons of content on YouTube. I'd honestly trawl around YouTube a bit and see what you like, there's lots of content for children and it's not nearly as suspect as English content.

There's a lot more content in it now, bunch of random amusing stuff really, but there's always at least one regular rube Goldberg machine and one rock-paper-scissors Rube Goldberg machine. Occasionally you get compilations of all the machines but those are for specials.

There's something super weird about that recording, like not all the frames are in order or something

Anyway, looks cool. Always good to teach gambling to children as soon as possible

Yeah it's slightly edited so YouTube's automatic drm doesn't ping onto it immediately

Oh, that's weird and annoying. They show you the end result at one point because of it

Curse you both for getting me hooked on Pythagoras Switch! Meanwhile, I found some Inai Inai Baa on a channel called Super Simple and my wife's now hooked on those. Since Seagate still hasn't sent a replacement for my 16TB drive (and just got word today that supposedly none of the data could be salvaged), I've got to ration space a little, but I'm basically leeching entire playlists so we can play the vids via flash drives for the two TVs we pretty much never use.

Haven't gotten to Luna's other suggestions yet, but will be once the new drive arrives (hopefully in the next week). Meanwhile, the poor kid's already been inundated with Showa-era toku music, which I often do my writing to.

Wait 16 tb? That's a pretty big expensive drive to fail, Seagate

My largest external is a 9tb, but I've got my stuff split across like 3 externals which gradually get moved to a larger terrarium when it gets too big. That way I'm kind of backing up my stuff as I go

I'm hoping to invest in a NAS unit (4-bay) once funding permits so this sort of thing will stop happening. That drive had nearly 8 gigs of material over three partitions. Maybe half was games, but it also had all my Blender files (both first partition), but the second had a massive multimedia archive which included all of my toku (including stuff TV-N pulled a long time back that's impossible to get now, such as Nexus).

The drive was actually only about $250 at the time, and it came with full warranty as well as a data recovery warranty. I'm rather miffed that they seem9ingly couldn't salvage a single text file from the drive, because it had stuff on there I'll never be able to replace (such as some of my work files). The irony is that the drive was supposed to be doubling as a backup drive and the drive that originally had the most important data had died a few months prior. Luckily all of my music archives were on another drive, so I still have those (but lost all the FLAC backups).

Once i have that NAS unit and at least one Ironwolf installed, it's getting placed into a corner of the office where it will be tucked away in a spot where nothing can get to it without moving a bunch of things. Maybe then I'll finally get to stop worrying about constantly losing drives (and their backup drives).
