W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
So the movie boasts 20 new minutes of footage. The neat thing about the cover is that they show all the scenes on the back. I'll scan it and put it in this thread, remind me if I forget to do this.
I really feel like the footage does a lot more explanation for why stuff is the way it is in the movie. We learn why it's Professor Maria and more about why certain Memories go to certain people...
That said, I kind of feel like the concept of fate is kind of beaten over the audience's head in the DC. While they explain the Memories being drawn to certain people a few times in the original, I felt like that was just enough to make it seem really awesome when Shoutarou gets his Joker Memory without it being like "that's so forced." Here, it seems like they explain the concept of fate and Memories being drawn to people in every scene. The subtlety is gone, which is unfortunate.
I liked the additional stuff about Maria and Philip's relationship.
Also, I'm glad that the original version cut Daidou's constant rambling about them being monsters. Talk about being a broken record.
The extra scene at the end with Shroud was a bit weird. I think that's Maria's actress. In the commentary track they said it gave it a horror aspect. Anyway, not terrible, but does feel pretty tacked on.
Edit:
Added in the nice front cover, enjoy! Red boxes are cut scenes. Blue boxes are extended scenes. If you sharpen it a bit more, the text in the box is just barely readable. I notice there's no kanji for Reika, but Rei 冷 is often the kanji for cold. And the giant blue circle in the last one says "The shocking last scene"

I'm a bit glad that there was more footage of the Sonozaki family even though it was mostly to explain the background story in more detail. The whole thing with Philip and Maria made it a bit more sense and personal for Philip. As for the Shroud scene at the end, it felt tacked on and unnecessary.

Seriously, I don't get the last scene!
It's a chance to explain in another movie, or?

Re: W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
Does it explain where LostDriver comes from? That's the most bizarre part of the theatrical cut for me. Getting beaten over the head with unsubtlety does not make me want to download this version of the film.
Plus, Eternal was a really annoying villain and I don't think I want to sit through potentially more of him.

You're going to wait a while then, Director's Cuts have never been released on Blu-Ray.
Re: W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
Huh. To be honest I thought the film felt pretty complete before the DC.
......Though I feel ashamed that I can't tell which scenes were extended. = 3=;;;

Look out, its a....you're adorable!
Sorry, got caught up checking a mirror.
So...ever gonna batch 33 to the end in sd? I did download the episodes individual-like, but I assume my computer breaking shortly thereafter was punishment for my out-of-character initiative. Or maybe it was punishment for dropping it at the airport, who can rightly say...

Spoiler
The hero's eventually going to win. But at what cost? Also,

Yeah, Skull gives it to Shoutarou, which is in the theatrical cut.dancercotillion wrote:Does it explain where LostDriver comes from?
Also, what's there to get about the last scene? It's just Shroud. You know, doing her make up.

We will but it will be sometime after Eternal movie is released. So probably a month or two from now.jolly_old_saint wrote:So...ever gonna batch 33 to the end in sd? Re: W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
I enjoyed the DC much more than the theatrical cut. I don't think Maria was portrayed as sympathetically in the DC - she has a much clearer motivation, which is pretty selfish. But her actions mean more when she finally resolves to interfere with Katsumi's plans because of that.
Looks like the Sonozakis had a lot of cuts from their scenes in the theatrical version. Their scenes flowed a lot better, and it made sense why they were sidelined so much. For some reason, it didn't click for me that their gold Memories were also neutralized by Eternal's power.
My only gripe is with that last scene - so unnecessary. Were they trying to imply that Maria really was Shroud...after they explicitly made the point during the movie that they aren't the same person? I don't buy it. And if they aren't the same, there's no purpose in showing Shroud wrapping up her face.

Re: W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
I guess I'll try to justify the last scene, keeping in mind that it really was totally tacked on. I think that what they were trying to do is remind people that while this character was conspicuously absent throughout the movie, she's still there and she's this horribly disfigured person. If I recall, when this movie came out, Shroud had already pretty much abandoned her plans of revenge and was essentially an inert player in the story.
Maybe the creators were trying to set a tone. Maybe they wanted it to appear as if Shroud still had something up her sleeve. Overall, I kind of feel like they just threw it in there because they thought it'd be an impactful scene that would elicit reactions (good or bad) from the viewers. I guess if it takes this much effort to justify its presence, they probably had the right idea of cutting it in the theatrical version.
I totally understand PHurricane's notion about the Sonozaki family. I remember watching the original movie and wondering why they were just sitting in their mansion talking instead of doing something. (I think I did eventually come to the conclusion that their memories were busted too)

Re: W Forever Movie Director's Cut released
I'm grateful for this DC. Thanks to it that one line makes sense now. Kasumi said that Philip was a monster born from science who has given up on humanity, but I kept thinking he was referring to episode 45.
