Yes it is. It got so dark that the characters had to go on a journey separately to find how to fix the situation. The journey took 6 episodes to explore each paths before they got back together if I remember correctly. There was a narrator that explained the myth behind all the Yokai, an all female-team that were basically the proto-Psycho Rangers that began during episode 15 and stayed until the final and probably half of the cast were still doing Toku after.

It's probably one my favorite Sentai seasons.

[Catastrophe]

It's a bit jarring in the beginning because there is this strange comedic tone that is ingrained within the show, with Adam West Batman era level fight effects.

It's still really good and gets real dark a little before halfway in. It's fantastic, but I feel gets outshone by DaiRanger.
