KR Saber 13 released

Last Week's rating: 4.14 /5 stars (14 votes)
Fan Sub-title: You can't kill Kento twice in a row and expect me to care both times
Mostly action, but the dramatic part felt bad. Like they were cramming in all the ways to make you care about Kento, but it was both long and too little too late. Kento's totally going to be the next Calibur, but will that make us care about Kento then?
2/5 stars, failed to reach to whatever lofty dramatic point it was trying to go for
Notes:
What, why are we laerning just now that Kento thought Touma was dead for 15 years INSTEAD of when the character was fucking introduced
Oh and Kento is alive. What a surprise...
Oh, Kento dies anyway...
Edit: I was so mad about the crappy writing that I forgot there was a power up in this episode. Underwhelming

Re: KR Saber 13 released
This episode wasn't the worst? It just exemplifies how all over the place the character development is. Like, we find out Kento's Dad was Calibur during their first fight together. Now we learn that he thought Touma was dead just before his own death? His death is also giving me major "Ex-Aid Bicycle man death" vibes. The way the kept focusing on Kento's eyes gives it away.
By the way, does anyone else feel like the show is already almost over? It's barely episode 13 lol, the pacing has been weird with the way exposition was delivered.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
So Kento didn't die, he's recovering in bed. Except he is because Caliburs weapon has some special property that they don't understand despite the fact it was originally one of their swords (you could chalk it up to being due to his new power up, but they don't say that). So they go to kill Calibur to save him, but Mei for the second episode in a row, lets the person she's supposed to look after get out of bed and go fight. And then Kento dies for real this time.
Except maybe not? That last scene seems to imply his soul is trapped in the blade?
If he had died last episode, with Saber finding him after losing to Calibur, I would have liked it better. But it's almost like they wanted to give him the big send off with the team to redeem himself.
I have to say though, I always thought Buster was going to bite it. Kento dying doesn't really have any impact because he hasn't really been that enjoyable nor super important to the plot despite being Sabers childhood friend.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
All the stuff in this episode is all really stock to me, unfortunately. I'm sure a big part of it is that I've been watching these kinds of shows for a decade now, but everything in this episode to me just feels like it was going through the expected motions and I wasn't even all that excited for the new form. It looks immensely cool though!
Kento is super-extra-dead this time. Putting aside that I'm sure he'll be back (and surely Calibur isn't done yet, either!)... We kinda had a big heartrending goodbye with him at the end of the previous episode?? What a really odd way to do things, but I guess I liked this 'second' death scene better...

Re: KR Saber 13 released
I called this series a hot mess in the other thread, and this episode just proves my point a bit more. I don't understand where the plot is going and why they have to rush through at near breakneck speed....I think the early upgrade has been hitting around 16 or so normally so 13 not only seems early in general, the pacing of the show has made this feel even earlier.
So Kento is 'dead', because I'm pretty sure he's going to come back again from how he died (Makes me think, more of a person being covered and corrupted by evil), and I just feel that everything is so rushed that I can't feel anything about what happened. And Touma got a powerup....that has been sitting around since episode 7 when he got King of Arthur...and while I normally love powerup eps, this basically got the 'Oh yeah, remember this random thing that got no attention at first?' Seriously does Sword of Logos get blank books THAT often of that size that it's a 'Meh, we have a trunk in the back that's full of them.'

Re: KR Saber 13 released
It's poor storytelling that they hyped up Arthur as being some really special power up when it actually ended up being something he got at the same time that was better.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
Which Kento death did people prefer?
I liked the first one, since it was shocking which made it more effective
Drawing out for his second death made this episode dragged for me. Sometimes, following a formula or doing something that's expected is great, because your'e giving the viewer what they expect. Like reading a good romance, there's comfort in knowing what to expect
But this just felt like Kento rushing to build character and relationships that didn't exist before. Never mind that his sword of logos focus episode feels like cut content that was paid dlc. Swords and books are cool things, but the storytelling is pretty bad!

Re: KR Saber 13 released
Well, I liked this second death scene (still funny whenever I can type that) partly because the whole group is here for it, and partly because I think the sentiment here is better (him disappearing and trusting everyone else to keep up the good fight without him, vs the previous one where he expressed regrets about the weird way he's been treating his baggage).
I'll say this much though. Kento's story up to this point is painfully compressed, but the upside is that he got to do more and had a more 'complete' arc before getting dusted, unlike say... Lazer and Jin. (This is really more me bagging on those shows shoving off those characters so early, than it is praising Saber for anything)

Re: KR Saber 13 released
Both deaths were terrible but I would take the first one over the second. He didn't do much on the second death. The only way the second death would have been better if he defeated Calibur or save someone but he didn't do either of those. I don't believe Kento is dead. He will come back in some form and probably be something stupid like becoming the next Calibur.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
I preferred the first one. Phoenix has it right, he didn't achieve anything coming out into that second battle and I feel like having died after failing to kill Calibur while rushing out in a misguided attempt to do something would have a little impact.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
I feel stupid for asking but what happened to Calibur at the end? Did they actually kill him off to set up Kento as a future villain?

Re: KR Saber 13 released
From what was shown, he exploded when Saber finished him off and his swords was sent into the forest somewhere.
If he's actually dead, time will tell. He seemed like too important of a character to bite it that early.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
Welp, I'm calling it, this is Reiwa's first dud of a season.
Kento's dead! Oh wait, nope he's alive. No he's definitely dead now. Except he might be banished into the darkness and be doomed to become Calibur 3.0 (his dad was totally the first one and then pre-Saber became 2.0 after he killed him). And oh look, the Form Replacement Syndrome hot-streak has been broken yet again with another power-up that feels totally unearned and redundant with the pacing of the story @_@ With that and the hyper-compressed overall pacing of the story, its pretty clear to me that they ended up just cramming the intended season's elements into as few episodes as they could get away with during the pandemic and calling it all a wash.
Like when they released the first hype images for it, I almost for a second thought that the silver book was a catalyst to combine the power of Brave Dragon and King of Arthur into a kingly knight form. Then it'd make some semblance of sense that the mysterious Avalon guy said he needed to show he could master the power properly. But then I remembered my ideas end up making far more sense than anything Toei does lately, so I knew immediately I was wrong about that. Dragonic Knight feels no different from the Three Volume form which was no different than the King of Arthur form, it all feels utterly meh.

Re: KR Saber 13 released
Kento dies in this episode, FOR REAL this time, is pretty much all I could take from this episode. Although I'm sure he'll be back again in whatever form....
The power-up didn't feel very special because of the events that were going on.... And yes, I didn't like the acting in this episode. The dramatic scenes didn't appeal to me too much.
And also, what was the whole point of leaving Mei to take care of the wounded guys??? Makes Mei feel useless for this reason. What does she do to help the guys here again??? I only remember her having the responsibility to tell them whenever a place disappears or a monster attacks by looking at that book(whatever its name is).
Also, I don't get the point of Touma's friend Luna. What happened to her? And what role does she play in this story? Don't get it....
And what happened to Tassel coming to the real world and being involved in the actual story? Wow this season is inconsistent....

Re: KR Saber 13 released
it's the "elemental properties" of the weapons. Fire, Water, Lightning, Earth, Wood... (sound/air??? no effing clue on gingerbread boi)Catastrophe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 11:59 pm So Kento didn't die, he's recovering in bed. calibur has the "Dark" element... and it corrupted lightning.
god, if she becomes the new lightning sword bearer.... we shall see.
