What's with the Matrix text effects? Are these guys Bugsters? I thought the theme with these guys was genes?

These captions are pretty bad. A lot of stuff unsubbed and lines like "Hero is not only you" lol

Wow, just episode 2 and we already have a helmetless suit scene

Wow, eat shit blue. Way to get your leg stuck in the stairs

LOL at these action shots

The hell. Why'd you make that guy's camera disappear for

What was Rajura doing during that whole exposition scene with Blue lol

"Year" instead of "Yeah"

Oh, the cliffhanger with yellow. How will he get out of this?!

You know, I had fun watching this episode. Sure, there were some rough as hell parts, but knowing that this is kind of an amateur production made it okay? Kind of interesting that red probably had the least to do here. We even got yellow doing his ballet thing that will lead into the next episode. Like this is way more effort than these guys need to do, you know?

Now that the first episode exposition dump is out of the way, we finally get a more action-oriented episode. And it's actually pretty good?

Poor Blue. He doesn't really get a backstory here; even Red had more going on. All we really get is that he's a photographer, taking beautiful pictures of the Earth. Which is why he's photographing a building stairwell.

As for the fight scenes, the cinematography and choreography are definitely improved here. Splitting everyone up into smaller groups means that they don't need to resort to the crazy camera zooming like last week. I'm not sure who is in those suits (last week Ashki said that it's likely the actors), but the combat skill is higher than what we saw with the untransformed fight, so it certainly looks a lot more impressive. They are still cutting between shots pretty rapidly, however. We're a bit spoiled by Toei's recent use of long takes, so only going a few seconds between shots is still a bit disorienting at times.

Somehow the runtime for this episode is even shorter, though. 10.5 minutes, and after removing the OP/ED you have a generous 8 minutes. Even then, the editor is being pretty shameless about reusing shots, even within a single episode. I think we've seen the same mooks spawning shot 3 or 4 times now, and a couple of times for the shot of them all dying.

Speaking of the mooks, I like that we get to see them laughing at/taunting blue. Mooks generally don't get much of a personality in Sentai; and they get wins even less often.

Meanwhile, I already mocked the fact that the supposed water ranger is represented by the driest planet in the solar system. But hey, he does get a pretty swank-looking bow. In fact, it looks like all of the characters get custom weapons, which is something even Toei hasn't been doing much of lately.

And hey, our first (only?) MOTW! I have to admit I'm not feeling the suit design here (which is a shame since the hero suits are so good), but I'll reserve judgement for next week after we get to see it in action.

Finally, Rajura's actress is really lanky, isn't she? I didn't notice it so much last week, but it's more obvious in these still photos.

I had the same thought. I can only assume it was a cheap effect to buy.
Wow, just episode 2 and we already have a helmetless suit scene
Right?! Granted, this is all essentially promotional material for a video that will involve a whole lot of helmetless scenes, but it would easily take a normal Sentai series half a season to give us a helmetless suit scene. I've always been of the opinion that it's something that should be done early, to help sell the idea that it's these actors under the suits.
What was Rajura doing during that whole exposition scene with Blue lol
For that matter, how did she even get ahead of Pink? She was originally behind Pink, chasing her.
Oh, the cliffhanger with yellow. How will he get out of this?!
With some sick ballet moves, I'm guessing! 8)

As mentioned last week, I'm totally grading this show on a curve. But this second episode did pretty well in that regard. It's certainly scratching that itch for having heroes in multicolored spandex beat up other people in gray spandex.

True, but I do enjoy that he gets kind of an arc of being smug, then he gets hoisted by his own petard

>I'm not sure who is in those suits (last week Ashki said that it's likely the actors), but the combat skill is higher than what we saw with the untransformed fight, so it certainly looks a lot more impressive.

Looking at the number of suit actors, I feel like they probably have actual suit actors for the rangers. There's six, so five rangers and one for the monster

It is a pretty nice bow

I think the photos of the "action shots" of people obviously not in motion are kinda funny

the helmetless scenes ... how very american!
and the suits are pretty thin, or perhaps they arent padded for sparks, but yeah they look tee shirt thin, kinda shocked we couldnt see underwear lines ... unless!

they advertised episode 6 but i thought this was 5 episodes? or ... is episode 6 the episode i dont want to see becuase its ... "no".

but ok, random girl with talking "sapce rabbit" walks upto you, magically transforms your camera into a wrist mounted thing, and you question NOTHING? like NOTHING about this is off to you. "here's this planet cube and to hell with your camera, transform for no reason now!"

I'm most worried about the camera, professional models are upwards of 1k, there's no way in hell a pro would be like "oh what's this toy", he'd be like "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO TO MY CAMERA"

What do you mean? He got some really nice shots of Earth in that stairwell...
I'm not sure who is in those suits (last week Ashki said that it's likely the actors), but the combat skill is higher than what we saw with the untransformed fight, so it certainly looks a lot more impressive.
You can generally tell by looking at the bodies. There's most likely one stunt actor for all the rangers, since they're of similar size and build. That's also part of the reason there are a lot of cuts during the action - so the stunt double can swap out suits. Also, while most of the action could be done by the actors, there were one or two shots (such as Pink wrapping herself around a mook) that were likely a stunt double, unless the actress has a decent amount of dance training.

Somehow the runtime for this episode is even shorter, though. 10.5 minutes, and after removing the OP/ED you have a generous 8 minutes. Even then, the editor is being pretty shameless about reusing shots, even within a single episode. Ahh, it really brings me back to '80s TOEI where half the episode was stock shots of the actors jumpiong over the camera at different angles and stock shots of stock shots...
Speaking of the mooks, I like that we get to see them laughing at/taunting blue. Mooks generally don't get much of a personality in Sentai; and they get wins even less often.
In early Super Sentai, they often had mooks doing infiltration and mocking the heroes. Then somewhere in the 1980s they switched to robots and other mass-produced mooks instead of humans. That's when things pretty much got boring. I do recall a few good mook-centric episodes in recent series, though, such as the one where five mooks formed their own evil sentai after pretending to be defectors.

If you have much exposure to Showa-era Super Sentai, you'll catch a lot of things that TOEI's since dropped the ball on but third parties have picked up. In some ways, I feel those little touches actually make the shows better, especially when they put so much more effort into everything to make up for the shoestring budgets.
In fact, it looks like all of the characters get custom weapons, which is something even Toei hasn't been doing much of lately.
I'd love to have toys/replicas of those weapons... In fact, I don't think I've seen a bow that good since Garo.
Finally, Rajura's actress is really lanky, isn't she? I didn't notice it so much last week, but it's more obvious in these still photos.
I think she's about average for JAV actresses who do action-oriented flicks like this. And Yui also does a lot of cosplay in her spare time where she looks even skinnier by Western standards. Gravure actresses like Akiyama Rina (Agito, Den-O) can also be pretty lanky, although they're more likely to be a bit thicker since their careers aren't as physically demanding as JAV.

I took it as sort of sensible. The genetic code has more amino acids than programs have bits, but they work on a similar principle and the acids are paired in a manner that very much fits binary code. So to me, at least, it kind of makes sense for mooks to be a sort of digital "test program" of the genetics that Gideath is harvesting.

But it probably has more to do with the fact that third party sentai traditionally has invaders from (or with access to) the digital realm. Akiballion and Akibaranger both had the baddies trying to cross over from the digital world, for example. And again, it harkens back to the Showa Era where Super Sentai was obsessed with robots and even digital invaders (Megaranger, for example).

Wow, just episode 2 and we already have a helmetless suit scene
These shows often have them in the very first episode, but with this one having such short runtimes, I can see why it was delayed. They're also using a common third party trope of the suits vanishing a piece at a time as the ranger gets more injured. Usually the helmet vanishes when they lose most of their power or are exhausted, and some or all of the remaining suit vanishes after it's been torn up and the ranger is nearing death or losing consciousness.
What was Rajura doing during that whole exposition scene with Blue lol
For that matter, how did she even get ahead of Pink? She was originally behind Pink, chasing her.
I had the impression that the two were invisible to the naked eye, which is why they showed up in the photos but not in the stairwell itself. It makes me wonder if this is all a sort of Akibaranger thing where nobody sees the baddies except for the rangers and it was contact with the stone that allowed Mercury to see Earth when she touched him. This means that while the heroine is sidetracked into recruiting, the villain is watching and learning. If these were full 50 minute episodes, she would have used that knowledge to later steal one of the transformation stones.

I still feel really bad that these episodes are so short. A lot of people are going to skip the porn, which means that we'll have the equivalent of just over one full episode of material by the end which will be spent introducing the cast. I really hope the series does well enough that Giga decides to expand upon it further down the road.

As mentioned, we get much better fight scenes here, with more water effects and even some sparkles for good measure. I also feel Pink's acting was a bit better, although this show isn't going to last long enough for her to really get comfortable with regular acting (kind of funny that it's easier for some people to have sex on camera than to do a theatrical performance, but I guess having to learn actual lines may be the issue).

And speaking of acting, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that the guys can act. Blue definitely hams it up and it feels like he isn't taking things too seriously with half of his lines, but the amount of actual acting these guys have to do in the entire series is about as much as in the first episode of most Super Sentai, and I've seen worse acting there in many series. The fact that Yellow does professional ballet is perhaps the greatest joke here, since Showa-era yellows were often walking food disposal units whose skills were based on brawn (prime examples are the two main Kirangers of GoRanger and VulPanther of Sun Vulcan). At the same time, he's also the beefiest member of the team, making it seem even stranger he'd be the most graceful one.

All in all, a really fun episode for the short runtime. I can't say much for the MotW, since minions usually get a lot more runtime, but I'm curious to get a better view of the costume in action. Hopefully it'll have a special skill and not simply be a stand in "super-mook".

Blunt honesty here, do you need subtitles for porn? You're not exactly watching for the plot, and "oh oh oh more more harder harder" is fairly universal

i can honestly live without seeing the porno. but if i NEED to see the porno to know how the story is going, ill cringe my way through it. but because i know it leads to a porno, every time pink kicks really high, im just like, "why can she kick so high? why are they making us know shes so flexixble? :/"

Not sure if this is something that you guys would be interested in translating as a special feature, but one of the actors on the show is doing an interview series with the cast on his YouTube channel, and talking about behind the scenes stuff. https://youtu.be/Q9CRuNyqWR0
