so, I think I know why the transformation sequence used a text chat thing: apparently text chats have big, square pictures that are effectively super emojis, and they're often referred to as "stickers" or, more relevantly here, "stamps". also, unless I was reading what was being said wrong, it was Ikki and Vice talking about Vice having been about to attack his mom and whatnot, so, assuming you're able to actually read it while it's on screen, it lets then have more character stuff done without needing to stop and act out a whole conversation in the middle of the action sequence.

Having watched the GenmCorp sub, they did actually subtitle the entire text conversation. I have a feeling a lot of the mental conversations will be set up like text messages in future. It's annoying, but I guess it's to cater to the kids.

Let's not forget that Foundation X turned out to be a front for Shocker, so there's no way they're not going to keep that going.


The episode wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, but it still didn't grip me very much. The scientist's lines were often annoying and didn't always even fit with the conversation, especially at the beginning where it seemed like they skipped a few lines of dialogue.

The costumes are garbage. That hasn't changed since the previews, and the MOTW outfits are even worse.

I will give some credit for the Dia de Los Muertos theme, but that's a holiday native to Mexico, not Peru, so they kind of fumbled the reference. Still, it's an interesting concept if they somehow explain that the guy who discovered the stamp ended up in Mexico or something. Plus, they were (unless I'm mistaken) speaking Mexican Spanish, not Portuguese, which is the main language in South America.

Cute evil girl is cute.

I like the family, but am I the only one who felt like the episode ripped heavily off of GandD? The family interactions, some aspects of the hero suit design, and the fourth wall thing are all good examples.

I've been a bit spoiled on the rising quality of third-party stuff lately, and compared to GandD and Dinnovator, this actually felt like the third party entry. Toei really needs to step it up, because I've been slowly losing interest in official KR and am spending more and more time rewatching Showa and Heisei Phase 1 stuff instead. You know, before it became a 24-minute commercial break for toys aimed at increasingly younger audiences.

Gave it a middling vote, since I actually didn't hate it (despite expecting to), but there's a lot of room for improvement. I'll give it a few episodes to see if it can gain my interest (who knows, maybe by then I'll be finished building the megalodon vistamp pepakura I started building a week ago), but I'm still mad we didn't get Shinobi.


Oh, and Vice is probably wearing a facemask for copyright reasons, because he's pretty much Ryuk with Momotaros's personality. I bet we'll find out in a couple episodes he loves apples...

I don't remember the details, or even which movie it was revealed. I do seem to recall when Shocker showed up there was some dissent among the ranks, so I think it was more of Foundation X was maybe a science division or something for Shocker.

If I can remember the movie, I'll go back and watch it once my hard drive comes back from repairs because I remember the big reveal was kind of awkward and felt like it was there just to make it tie into an anniversary or some such nonsense.

I forgot that the Riders usually fought with their fists lol, the fighting looks way more natural here.

As someone who is from the Mexican border I love that the villains are just evil mariachi, their names are even unique instead of the usual "Alejandro" or "Maria".

It was a really fun first episode even if it had some bad stuff like everyone else mentioned, it's refreshing to see a rider punch again

It's amazing how much a show can improve by removing all the fart jokes that were in the special Saber episode.
