Sci-fi needs a term for a fixed point in time

Post by takenoko »

I've seen multiple terms for a person or a thing that's fixed and unchanging when time lines change from time travel shenanigans. In Den-O, I think I started with the translation "singularity point", which I later changed to "singular point" or maybe even "fixed point" in some of the movies. I've definitely seen "singularity point" in translations of manga I've read.

In the new Marvel series "What If" (and Loki maybe?) they use the phrase "absolute point". Some people even saying that Iron Man dying is an "absolute point"

I kind of like Fixed Point or Absolute Point personally

Fixed point in time is what Doctor Who uses, so that's what I've always gone with.

Then again, Doctor Who is inconsistent in everything. In Season 1 they go on about how time literally cannot be changed. Then at the end of Season 2 they do a story specifically about how it CAN be changed.
Seen:
Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.
Precure: DokiDoki-Go Pri
Metal Heroes: Gavan
Other: Spiderman, Power Rangers
