After looking at the recent signups for this forum, I've seen a number of things that make me suspect that many of them might in face by spambots.
Take these 4 for example:
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17585
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17590
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17604
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17619
Same basic username, and none have so far made any posts.
If there is some way to do it on here, the admins should try to add in a feature that will automatically delete new users who haven't made even a single post in 3 months or so. I know it sounds harsh, but it's better than having the forum overwhelmed by a sudden flood of spam should they be bots that are interconnected to act at the same time.
Besides, if you think about it, WHY would someone signup then not make so much as one post even after several months? I mean, real people can easily read everything here without signing up.

Re: New users suggestion for admins
I dunno, we get weird trolls sometimes. Who knows what they're thinking
Anyway, we've always had more people sign up and not say anything than who do. It doesn't really matter since no one who cares is paying attention to the members list

Re: New users suggestion for admins
I tend to purge the member list every 6 months or so or everyone who has 0 posts and hasn't logged on in 3 months. As long as the bots aren't actively spamming it's hard to tell who's a bot and who's a quiet human

Re: New users suggestion for admins
I didn't know you did that. Why even bother?
Do you do it manually or use the prune user function in the admin tools?

Eh, whim.
Prune function lets me choose users who haven't logged in and have no posts, so it only takes like 2 minutes
