Opening this week! The song is indeed catchy as people say

Who's he fighting in the opening though? Is there a reason to censor it?

So she was like 8 when her dad ran out on her? They sure didn't beat around the bush about who the old guy was. Is Houtarou going to tell her he saw him die, or at least appear to die?

Girl was a bit better this episode, but there were still a few wooden performances. It didn't help that they had her do all the expository lines

I'm not really sure what to make of Hou, he's not terribly charasmatic, at least to me. I guess his strong point is that he has a positive attitude and is friendly with the Chemy? At least the Build guy was supposed to be smart, despite have negative 100 charisma

Please put the three sisters in every episode from here on! They're the most interesting thing about the show so far

3/5 all the cgi scenes for the bikes were so bad...

The "traitor" that stole the 101 chemy and ran away huh? We all know this story already... but ok go ahead.

the 3 yugioh girls but if they used it all the time they will lose face very quick.

The alchemist academy actually have more than 1 student... cool...

We get a rival in just 2 episodes. I hope he is at least a good character.

I had to go back and rewatch the opening, because I'd missed that someone was censored until you said something.

they were made using "alchemy" in what's clearly a chemical reaction (not surprising. modern chemistry evolved from medieval alchemy), so maybe they're structurally unstable?

when I said a bunch of the forms might be just CGI stuff, I meant like they make what looks a character model for a video game and just slap it on a box or something, like they've done for Build and Zero-One, and others in the past. there were a fair number of Full Bottle sets sold where they give you the two bottles that make up a form, but the picture on the box OF the form isn't a real costume. I wasn't expecting this for Odorimantis, but that answers how they'll handle having 45 matching forms to work with, plus whatever other special stuff is coming in the future.

well, all the Chemys were made with alchemy, and one of the most well known things alchemy was supposed to be for was turning lead into gold. a joke could be made they turned unleaded (gas) into gold?

every "we think someone was a bad guy but the audience knows better and we're going to be surprised to learn we were wrong" story is someone's first, and this is a kid's show after all. I'll try to act surprised when it hits the beats we're expecting.

on the one hand: bets on there being anything more than these two other people?

on the other, secret society and all, so only having a couple of students at least makes sense.

not too surprising. last few seasons have all had a good chunk of the main character riders/rivals show up as early as episode 1, after all.

you know, a thought just occurred to me: in that flashback early on to when her dad was reading her that story, he says the legend was from "about 100 years go"?

even accounting for the flashback being 10 years ago, that still means this "hundred years ago" legend that's clearly designed to evoke the idea of a medieval alchemist vs. a horrible demon takes place in like the 1910s.

this "legendary alchemist" was out here running around in World War 1 and they're acting like it's some ancient secret or something. that's old, sure, but it's still fairly modern, all things considered.

Oh, I picked up that malgam was from amalgam, but not that chemy was from alchemy and not chemistry

I guess some combos will be more akin to special attacks than full forms

ok, having rewatched the entire episode proper, I THINK I have an answer to who the censored enemy was in the OP.

no one.

or, alternatively, anyone.

I got a better look at the back of the Skebows Malgam during the chase scene on Golddash and realized the back of the costume looked like the back of the censored enemy in the OP. I think the "censor" is just covering the head because that, and the arms kinda, seem to be the main difference in Malgam appearances, but it's otherwise the same base suit.

Ya know, if I had a nickel every time we had a kind and easygoing main character being the only person who can speak to CGI creatures that give power to heroes, I'd collect two nickels over the past half year! Which is not a huge earning, but still more than I'd expect and it's 2 for 2 for the toku shows that I watch <_<

I like the soundtrack so far! Don't know if it's particularly memorable, but it's nice and chirpy

Story seems kinda whatever so far. What did they actually expect Ichinose to do in that test even, since he has no magic ring? Awaken his inner alchemy, like how kids in harry potter novels were said to randomly do magic when growing up before they get a wand and start controlling it..?

I was gonna say ryuki had this thing where they censored characters in the OP until they were introduced, but that's actually a smarter idea for OP footage
(also that it's probs going to be replaced with new forms and|or monster-form boss whenever there is one)

If you point your finger the arrow on the ring will also point along so my guess this is like an "active stance" for it or something

Line's correct, but I agree that the hierarchy of this school is currently very nebulous and needs to be fleshed out in later episodes.

we'll probably find out next episode. their uniforms were different, so they're either upperclassmen or they're staff, but ranked lower than the teacher, since he's in yet a third different uniform.
