RenkingRobo obviously a homage to the Sunrise robo series, a lot of which had the word King as part of their name. Although I guess the Sentai robos have a lot of kings too

Pretty entertaining episode. Kanon is definitely menacing and good at action, but some of her lines came off a bit flat here too. But that's like 90% of the cast in this series for some reason. I actually liked Kajiki and whoever Ayane is playing here. Can we get more screen time with these two instead?

That said, Rinne actually getting to smile and laugh and stuff actually came off more natural, so please, more of that

BatKingRobo looks AWESOME, and I'm sad this is probably the only time we'll ever see it, given how they've yet to reuse any combos that aren't forms (and also seem to barely reuse forms outside of once or twice following their debut episode?)

it's the combo form of GoldDash and Mechanichani (the crab they caught like 3 weeks ago), GoldMechanicha. the toy for the GotchaTornado (the orange bow/sword weapon) features NeedleHawk form on the box, which is why the toy wasn't released until that form came out, and the toy comes with the card for Mechanichani, so the back of the box's segments showing the different things the toy can do includes a box showing the new form, saying "hey, now that you have the other half of the combo, you can pretend to henshin into this form, too."

actually, had another thought:

the thing Atropos and Lakhesis were making. do we think it's:

a) a new driver (either for an evil Kamen Rider (entire show), an evil Kamen Rider (starts evil, turns good later), a good Kamen Rider (stolen from them when they make it and someone gets new powers), or a good Kamen Rider (Valvarad steals it and finally gets to be a rider)

b) a new non-driver henshin device (good or bad, it just lets someone use cards to transform into a non-rider, non-malgam state, like Valvarad)

c) it was a closeup, so it's smaller than it looks, and it's an add-on for the Gotchardriver, like the Hazard Trigger?

I hope it's a driver so that we can have another RIder in this series, will be disappointed because it's probably just a driver for Valvarad or a power-up for Gotchard though. Hope the good guys don't immediate steal it and use it next week to power up

Not to mention the current Sentai being King themed (not to mention bug, which is more Kamen Rider).

Oh, wow. This is probably the best these characters have been, and the character-focused direction makes this almost top the wrestling episode. By all rights Ichinose and Ryou should be extremely annoying together, but it instead allowed the characters to feel like real friends and real people. Ichinose is at his happiest when his friend's being happy, and does everything he can to support him. The haunted house scene adds a dimension to Rinne that, while we may never see it again, makes her feel way more interesting than the bored, slightly angsty student previous episodes were conveying. Ryou and Hijiri bonding over mutual geekdom gives Ryou far more to do than be the conspiratorial comic relief we'd almost exclusively seen him as. The fact that this episode kept everyone in character while improving my perception of the main cast really speaks to the writing and direction. Similarly, I loved this episode's tone despite its roughly matching what we've already seen (serious sisters, goofy goodies), just with a bit more character drama.

Despite having seen the sisters for a while, some aspects of the episode made me feel like we've never actually seen what they can do on their own. Klotho's superhuman strength makes the sisters overall feel like a bigger threat, in addition to power scaling (a mostly-futile but favorite pastime of another fan). The entire breakout scene also adds an early-Heisei-style realism to what's mostly been purely fantastical, and helps both ground and show the contrast between the two "worlds."

Misc notes:

• Bamboo canon. I can respect that.
• RenkingRobo gave me Dogengers PTSD
• Klotho's having a lot of fun being evil
• I'd mention Ryou stalking and that definitely being her older brother, but Take already covered that. Still, the twist of said brother being one of the criminals helped counteract the more telegraphed one
• Love the sisters' science lab, and the tricked out gaming PC doesn't hurt. What are they playing, Battride War 13?

Remember, kids, good boys don't just follow girls around they like all day. The job one was iffy but okayish since they both seemed pretty into it, but don't follow her after that too!

Yeah, we really can't know for sure unless something is said officially. It just seemed like something someone would have thought of, but isn't big enough to get mentioned.

Other things don't get pointed out, but seem to be a bit too coincidental.

With the Legend Rider pair ups, for example, Zero-One (the most recent Hopper Rider) got paired with Den-O (trains). It could be because of there humor themes and catchphrases or some other reason, but that would be a heck of a coincidence.

True, but with how much things like this are on purpose, it begs the question.

I am starting to think that this show flow much more naturally if Rinne was an excitable and slightly awkward Kamen Rider Gotchard and Houtarou was the kind of cool alchemist. Then Spanner and Houtarou could be cool love rivals for Rinne's attention and Rinne could be a reaction queen like Oni Sister. We would need better actor's though.

The overacting in this episode was pretty grating.

Klotho's fighting was the best part of this episode. Her beating up the enhancement talent ninjas and then fighting headmaster evenly made headmaster look pretty bad ass.

There needs to be a Houtarou Cringe Scale, showing how cringy Houtarou's character was by episode.

Rinne's laughing in the haunted house was the second best thing.

A chemy Megazord would be cool. They could be renamed The Alchemist 5 with Houtarou - Red, Rinne - Yellow, Renge - Pink, Sabimaru - Green, and Spanner - Blue. To transform, they each need one card so the five cards add to 25.

I am somewhat enjoying this as camp.
