Edit: No episode next week!
They can't get a chair for Suzume?
Mention of Duga's mysterious off screen family
Is this the writer's way of saying "take off those headphones you damn kids"
The girls aren't in this episode? The boys better bring it
As I thought, Kaguragi is a liar
Gross, her finger has lips?
At least Hirubiru has good moves
Ah good, Shiokara masks up against covid
Sorry Yanma, but I don't care about you or your dumb cyberpunk cgi nightmare
Is this a new song?
They sure are getting a lot of use out of the lie detector
Why does Shiokara's speech pattern just suddenly change
Why are they just standing there? Why are they just walking away? They're not going to fight her?
What the hell happened to Nkosopa? Was their techology stemming off the apocalpyse?
Anyway, what a nonsense story this was. "What a cool guy Yanma is, he loves Shiokara so much that he'd destroy his whole kingdom." So shallow and manipulative. Four of you guys there, you couldn't fight Hirubiru??
I genuinely do like the Shiokara/Yanma relationship but this origin story and this dark twist wasn't it for me. For one, the origin story didn't tell us anything we didn't already know. Two, for Yanma to sacrifice everything for Shiokara, everyoen else had to stand by and act like an idiot. Also redundancy, you guys run computers and everything in yoru society will turn into a hellscape if your laptop breaks? What??? Disappointing episode
Next week, the destruction of Nksopa won't matter, because we'll do HImeno's story next. ???

The gangster in this week's King is a rare live appearance by voice actor Inada Tetsu. You probably know him best as Doggie Krueger

For some reason Yanma's focus episodes always feels kind of dump and doesn't make sense. Maybe the writer just doesn't know how to write cool Cyberpunk guys.
Kamejimu is at Ishabaana, right? Himeno did that hand gesture, that might not be Himeno at all.
Sebas is canonically 25 years old with old man make up. I wonder if we'd ever get to see his young self.
Inada Tetsu is one of my favorite voice actors. Nice camo! I thought I knew his voice, but I didn't recognize him at all.

That'd be an amazing detail catch if you're right lol

Yeah, I don't know what he looks like usually. Just wish his role were cooler

Ok, this is way cool. The staff went all out with the homage to DekaMaster. The gang's emblem was the hells dog, and the shoulder pad was a dog head.
Inada-san said on this twitter that this was his debut on-screen acting role?!
And Kikuchi Mika (DekaPink) commented on that lol

Re: King-Ohger 35 discussion post
I'm tentatively giving this episode a 2. But I really don't know what to make of it.
On paper, this is an endearing Yanma story that finally delivers on softening him up a bit, and explains a little more about how he became President Techno-God.
And yet it doesn't actually make any sense? It's a hearty dose of pathos, but it's delivered aimlessly without the kind of solid plotting needed to make it matter. So we're left with Yanma destroying his kingdom - and the lives of what's surely millions - to save a single dude. A dude that's important to him (as all of the aides are to their respective kings), but one dude all the same. And all of this happened in lieu of, well, any other way to resolve the situation.
It feels like the writers knew what emotional beats they wanted to hit in this episode, but they didn't know how to weave them into a good story.
I will however give credit where it's due to the writers for explaining how Hirubiru was able to take over Nkosopa without being able to do the same thing to the rest of the planet. It's basically getting credit for not screwing things up, but giving a character such a powerful ability without making it overpowered is not an easy task. In this case it feels like a very natural confine that plays off of Nkosopa's culture well.
And while this wasn't a Kaguragi focus episode, the writing for his character was absolutely on point in this episode. "I am the man who would betray even himself!"
I'm going to miss Nkosopa. The fact that it had a physical floor instead of a CGI floor made the virtual locales a lot more believable than the junk we get in Shuggoddam.
Meanwhile, I guess this entire block of episodes is going to be the final set of focus episodes for the kings? Given that we're 35 episodes in, it makes sense to place them here. But it means the series' overarching plot threads are going to have to sit and spin a bit while the character stuff is resolved. That's a liability if they're all going to be as weak as this episode.
Episodes without a mecha fight: 1 (we've reset the clock)

What's going on next week? Golf? Race cars? Track & field?
He may be the Lord of Abundance. But he is the King of Liars! As I thought, Kaguragi is a liar

Isn't this the same song as the one they first play in the Nkosopa intro episode? Is this a new song?
Yes. And it was all being controlled by an ancient laptop. It all makes perfect sense, right? What the hell happened to Nkosopa? Was their techology stemming off the apocalpyse?
I've come to the same conclusion. He's the most interesting character, but his stories are always the weakest. They often end up feeling incoherent, or at least they advance the plot and deliver on beats that feel unearned.
Oh that's totally a fake. Even without the hand gesture (nice catch!), it's not like Himeno is going to beat any of the Space Bug Jesters immediately and on her own. So something is absolutely very wrong there. The fact that it's Kamejimu leading the kingdom makes all the more sense, since we know he can disguise himself.Kamejimu is at Ishabaana, right? Himeno did that hand gesture, that might not be Himeno at all.

For that reason, I have $5 on the mysterious suitor for Not-Himeno being Himeno in disguise. A fraud for a fraud, if you will.

I love the behind the scenes stuff you post Yaiba, it's always interesting stuff
>And all of this happened in lieu of, well, any other way to resolve the situation.
We've tried nothing and are all out of options! It wouldn't grind my gears so much if they hadn't just had the heroes standing by for a half hour watching while Yanma and Shiokara fried his brains with lightning. Yeah it's dramatic... but why? None of it makes any sense
>It feels like the writers knew what emotional beats they wanted to hit in this episode, but they didn't know how to weave them into a good story.
exactly!
>I will however give credit where it's due to the writers for explaining how Hirubiru was able to take over Nkosopa without being able to do the same thing to the rest of the planet.
I'm going to have to be the contrarian and say they actually worked a plot hole into her weakness. Yeah, she needs to whisper in your ear, but apparently her ability works through transmission. You can't tell me that in medical capital Ishabaana they don't have headphone technology. She should really have more of the populace under her sway... and doing more interesting things than just destroying computers.
Which brings to question, are they trying to conquer Chikyuu or destroy it? Are they just keeping Shugoddom and destroying the rest?
It is! I forgot we got multiple songs for that ep
Surrrre lol

Best thing I can say about this episode is that Kaguragi's brief moment was amazing. He's so much of a double agent, he's immune to brainwashing.
