Wait, those are really Spanner's parents? What is with Kamen Rider series and their casually solving death...? Also... seems like Spanner has a screw loose. I don't know what his parents did, but suicide by alchemy sure didn't seem to help Spanner going crazy situation

Also, what is the angel malgam doing at this point? He's already driven Spanner to becoming a Malgam. Isn't that the point?

While my mind is wandering during the opening, how cool will it be when Osaka and Sabi become Riders for real? And hopefully the sisters have cool evil Rider forms (Dread doesn't count). This seems like the b-tier Rider series where everyone just becomes a rider for no reason.

Wait, has Spanner's catchphrase always been checkmate? I guess I never noticed before, and he hasn't really finished any monsters off since Kyouka's introduction

So he basically hasn't made any emotional or character growth at all. It's a real weird way of raising a character's profile by making the people around him more likable. I like Kyouka and I like Minato more now, and Spanner a slight bit more, but he's more or less still the arrogant, one-note prick that he's always been. Not to judge a character on a journey, it's just this probably would have been the episode to take a firm step forward

Alright episode, but considering the material, should have been a lot stronger. You know you have character problems when the guy has less charisma than even the pony tail guy from Geats. I'm sure part of the problem is writing and directing, so I don't want to blame it all on the actor, but what a void of a personality they've created here

Looks like next week's about Osaka? That should be fun at least
Edit: I almost forgot to point out the people at Toei aren't totally heartless. Hurray that Klotho doesn't have to be naked in the winter

overall? dunno. but I think it IS outside the building we saw last week that they labeled as where professor-mom (hereafter referred to as momfessor) has her lab.

I think the implication is that the angel can summon their souls and place them into artificial bodies, which is why they break down so easily. as for helping the Spanner situation, definitely not gonna help if they don't explain it to him, but I think they specifically blew themselves up in a way that makes them unsummonable, so that helps a little if they can't keep being used as puppets to upset him.

and I'm guessing the plan isn't specifically to make him a malgam, but to drag more of that black fire out of him, since it sounded like that was the same power as the Door to Darkness they're after? what if the plan is actually to power him up and make him a Kamen Rider so Geryon can use him later? play the long game?

While my mind is wandering during the opening, how cool will it be when Osaka and Sabi become Riders for real? And hopefully the sisters have cool evil Rider forms (Dread doesn't count). This seems like the b-tier Rider series where everyone just becomes a rider for no reason.

bets on how many weeks before we find out Minato's not a bad guy, and using his position to train the kids while shielding them from real attacks?

my prediction: we get at least 2 to 6 weeks, max, so that Renge, Sabi, and possibly Kajiki can all get their own episodes/two episode arcs, and then the truth comes out, and Geryon kills him, steals back the DreaDriver, and uses it himself/forces it on someone else, either upgrading it or making a new belt, and we'll fight Dread Type 1 or something.

given it was engine themed the whole time, I'm wondering if it was originally ONLY meant for Valvarad, but they figured he wasn't a popular enough character to make it sell, so they reworked it to also be a powerup for Gotchard?

yeah, I think that was the implication with Flamin' Hot Gotcheetos' chemy cards having orange tints and flame decals, as well as his driver being red instead of orange and the suit colors inverting, is that's what happened from him working with them all for a long time and that being the change that came about as a result, with the possibility it'd happen to Houtarou's current ones under the right conditions.

inb4 Gotchard's next big powerup(s)/his last powerup(s) before the final form are beefed up Hopper1 and Steamliner, like how Build had RabbitRabbit and TankTank.

I rewatched that a couple times, too, confused why it said that, then realized the next few times were 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and then Top, so I'm guessing they're a speed rating.

Hmm, I guess, although either they blow themselves up or the Malgam does it, it still has the same affect on Spanner. Also, how did they use their alchemy? I guess the mcguffin screw had something to do with it, but it doesn't really explain anything to the viewer...

Hmmm. It's an interesting theory, but I think the simplest answer is that they just wanted to give a jet to Gotchard

I think you're right. After the first one I stopped trying to read it, since they blipped by too fast

forgot to mention, I actually like that Valvarad gets additional powerup mini-forms, like he did pre-Riderhood, though it definitely isn't helping the argument about if he or Rinne are the secondary rider when he gets to use additional cards in his debut episode, and she still hasn't yet despite having Cerberus + Moon for two weeks now.

Which is technically wrong because they all three have very specific roles in their mythology. Klotho spins the thread of life, so she's shown with either a drop spindle or a spinning wheel, Lakhesis measures the thread so she has a ruler-type tool, and Atropos cuts the thread so she has the scissors/shears.

Okay, I liked and don't actually know what the thing she's holding is. Could it be a measurement tool? I thought they looked like weird scissors. Atropos's thing is definitely a cube, which I see are half black and half white. This and her dual lipstick colors, is her mythological character supposed to represent some sort of duality? Life and death maybe?

Wait, is the thing on Lakhesis's chest a messy measuring tape of sorts? It does seem to have notches on part of it

Klotho has the eye, but I can't tell if she has anything going on besides that?

This kind of had the same effect on me as the last one, feeling more like an edgy direct-to-video/TTFC spinoff than a real episode; I suspect the apparent switch back to comedy next time will be rather strange in contrast. I appreciate the more stylish shots and editing in this episode, and we now know to a better extent why Spanner is the way he is, but introducing a major new form and then two new Riders has so far meant that everyone's overpowered until they aren't, sometimes within one or two episodes. Majade's introduction resolved this by keeping Gotchard occupied with a separate foe, but this time everyone else needed to be useless until the new form was out of the way. I will say, though, that I'm quite interested where Lachesis' slow-burn treachery consideration arc is headed.

I guess the character growth here was, Spanner learned to control his rage by accepting that although his parents were truly gone, they still loved him, and he realizing had Kyouka with him now. It wasn't convey very clearly.

That sword was really burning. When was the last time they used real fire on a weapon and not cgi.

I'm initially thought Houtarou would be giving up the GotcharIgniter. I'm glad Spanner got his own new one and not a second-hand.

To help Spanner, Kyouka played the good cop and Minato played the bad cop, although the result was successful that was a dangerous gambit.

Looks like Minato recruited Lakhesis to his cause, both being secretly plotting to betray Geryon.

10 episodes ago Houtarou would blow up Spanner to save MadWheel without hesitation.

Both Kudou and Spanner got their new rings from their parents. Sensing a theme here. Want to bet where Houtarou's getting his new ring?

Almost thought that was KR Legend Kaguya-sama in the preview.

I've loosely translate some points I find interesting:

Kamen Rider Valvarad was designed before they decided Spanner would be a Malgam. The irregular feel of the Rider somehow worked out with the plot afterwards.

Spanner's ring was initially going to be the red like Minato and Kyouka. But Spanner's actor suggested purple. The director accepted the proposal because it showed he reached the elite-red level not by traditional means, but through irregular means with Malgam power.

今回のケースで重要だったのがマルガムとなったスパナの中にマッドウィールもずっと居たということ。

MadWheel realchemizig itself was another irregularity happened with Spanner. Being the Wheel Malgam, MadWheel had access to Spanner's black flame and used its power to evolve to MachWheel.

ケミーみんなと分かりあって自分のほうからどんどんケミーに向かっていく一ノ瀬と違って、
「ついてきたい奴だけ来ればいい」とでもいうような、全面的にケミーの方は向かない在り方に落ち着いたスパナ。

Kyouka said Spanner should find his own way to work with the Chemys. Spanner doesn't bond and befriend the Chemy's like Hotarou, he accepts anyone who wants to follow him willingly.

そしてじつは珍しい宝太郎の錬金術使用シーン。
別にまったく使えないというわけじゃないんですよ？
ただずっと素人レベルというだけで……。

It's a rare scene where Houtarou uses alchemy. He doesn't use it often not because he can't, it's becasue he's bad at it.

Did I blank out during a scene? Minato comes to Kyuoka's lair and says that he's going to kill her and take her swag. Minato in the next scene has the swag but later on Kyuoka shows up without a scratch. Did Kyouka challenge Minato to a chess game as a way of getting out of being killed? And, since Minato announced to Spanner that he had struck down Spanner's master, why didn't Spanner off Minato?

So, is Minato faking being evil or is his grip on his soul just enough to do damage control? I was thinking that if Minato is supposed to be an Endymion/Tuxedo Kamen character, then since Endymion threw black roses as opposed to red roses and a thrown black rose changing into a red rose signified that Tuxedo Kamen was temporarily in control, maybe they could show that with Minato's alchemy ring: the ring could now be black but it will change to its normal color when good Minato can temporarily break through?

I feel bad now for calling Renge "Osaka". In Azumanga Daioh the Ayumu character was tagged with the nickname Osaka and the character thought it was bleh.

Spanner realized Minato was lying to him and didn't kill him for it. The final scene between Spanner and Kyouka has Spanner telling Kyouka that he saw through Minato's bluff and didn't kill him.

I must admit, I've zoned out a fair bit during the last 2 episodes. Mostly as I don't care for Spanner in the slightest, I'm just waiting for the rest of the plot to emerge. I do like the sisters potentially betraying their boss though, trying to get in before he betrays them.

Not speed; gears. Low (aka 1st) gear, 2nd gear, etc., up to Top Gear.


Which means that Spanner's gonna have a prominent role in the Gotchard/Boonboomger crossover movie. /s

You joke, but I wish they'd continued the Sentai/Rider crossovers. I miss the short running gag of Rider characters looking the other way when the mecha turn up.
