To its credit, it does go a bit more into detail about what happened, and I do like spending more time with Rita. My main nitpick in chapter 12 is the kid refers to Rita as "neechan" when the whole series specifically avoided gendering them. Clearly the writer/artist didn't get the memo.

In the kid's defense, the kid is meeting Rita for the first time, and knows pretty much nothing about Rita since the kid thought Rita's a bad guy from how Rita looks and acts. So considering the kid's perspective, you gotta be a bit forgiving, and it makes sense to a certain degree. I think "what are your pronouns?" isn't what a kid at that age would ask when they meet a person for the first time.
