Last episode of the year. Who's gonna die?

Gotta love that Kani's lame finisher is doing a crab walk

His code name is Raage9? I thought that was just his name...

What's that sign in dente's cave den? Feel free to take the vegetables? And a "no trespassing" sign. I suppose everything in the cave is stuff he scavenged from the humanworld

Lol, I didn't realize how furry Kani's pants are

Whoa Shouma, you're in purple now? Don't go changing up your costume too much or I won't recognize you. How lucky of him to have Sachika making him lunch. Her hair is going back to its natural color. Eat that lunch she made for you you ungrateful child

Wait what? Is Raage not in it for the candy? Are we going to get to watch any of the druggies do their drugs?

Nyelv is making a rider belt too? Love it. More Nyelv please. Do we have any linguistic heroes who've translated Granuto language?

Now that he's crabbed walk, I'm seeing it in all the stunt actors movements. Nice. The possum act really is his weakness though, isn't it? lol. Last chance to hear Aishite

Just break the ropes with your superhuman strength, Hanto did it like 10 minutes ago

Hey kids, it's just like the gift of the magi

I guess one underappreciated superpower Gavv has is no one can knock his belt off

Feels like kind of a major battle. Makes sense since this guy has been a viallain for like a month

The shooting Gochizo mechanic is always so lame. Shooting it to deliver it to Valen instead of just tossing it

It's so weird to see CakeKing naked. I'm picking up a Buche de Noel next week, so excited

Crab battle damage! Yeah!

What's going on with the whip cream guys in the background lol

Does Sachika own all those buildings, because that feels like she's super rich if she does

Wow they each have a different slice of cake too. I feel like chocolate is Hanto's. I'm guessing the shortcake is for Sachika since she did say it's her favorite. What's the third slice? SOme kind of meringue?

Gotta love Hanto when he's a good detective

Oh, he turned that pudding into a Gochizo. Through technology I guess, since magic and alchemy aren't in this world as far as we know. It's not even a prototype it's a full belt and it's all done? That was fast

Gosh, guess Raage is really going to be a regular character in this series. Nice job landing a Sentai and a Rider role, KirameiSilver

Cute Christmas Gochizo thing in the ending sponsor. Thanks Gavv for this year, we'll see you again in the new year!

That was a good episode without being a great one. A lot of stuff happened to move the plot forward, but the emotional pay out of Shouma making up with Hanto, and the thrill of the victory over Kani just didn't quite impress me. Which is a pretty negative thing to say about a pretty good episode otherwise

Oh dear, has Toei shoved Kiramei Silver in the basement with Matsumoto Hiroya too?

I suspected that Raage9 was more than he seemed after the cryptic pronouncement in last week's episode when taken to the human world. He seemed more focused on worming into the Stomach Company's upper echelons than getting Dark Candy, and this week cemented that. Intrigued to see where this goes.

Oh you're right. I totally had that as a "huh, I wonder if..." back of the head thought. Given the revelations of this episode, the ambiguous loyalties make it even more interesting

Has Matsumoto ever appeared in Rider? I feel like he must have in all these years

You know, surprisingly he's only ever appeared in Rider in a minor part in Revice and the Gaim soccer movie.

Wait, why does this movie look so familiar. Is this KirameiBlue's movie? Or the one from Yodonna??

You can't do that with KirameiSilver here

What are we calling the new rider, by the way? My first thought was that it came from "Flan", since it's a crème caramel, and that's basically what the Japanese call "Purin". But that's an odd katakana spelling for Flan. Maybe we'll get a justification like we did with Valen.

Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.
Precure: DokiDoki-Go Pri
Metal Heroes: Gavan

Vlam? I think you're on the right track saying it's based on flan.

Not a bad episode to introduce the one part-timer that is good at their job. Wish they would've said if the quality of the spice was altered by the toxins because it might be the equivalent of evil aspartame.

Loved how Hanto was willing to go the extra mile to learn about the Stomach Company, but he's too weak to survive on the other side. Most of his power-ups barely augment his physical power and what is improved is more on the energy side. After that fight with Glotta, a lot of power is needed just to endure a solo fight with other Granutos.

The introduction of a new driver was very disturbing. We don't know how much of Dente's and Suga's notes went into the driver to see what powers were obtained. Even worse is that Suga probably could've added a better belt to Valen to make him stronger and not be dependent on chocolate related treats. While making Gochizo's is likely hard for humans, let's hope Nyelv returns the favor with a machine for Suga to experiment. Perhaps the size of the Gochizo could be used to ensure they last more than one battle.

Kani has been promoted from monster-of-the-week to monster-of-the-month.

I like that the food-theme were not just for cosmetic and they were actually making use of the food elements in the fight. Sugar become explosive when they are hanging in the air as dust. Valen sprinkling sugar around the MOTW and then exploding it was just clever.

Are the whipped soldiers fighting among themselves in the background while Kani was taking the finishers? These guys are hilarious.

🦀 The battle with Crabby finally comes to an end
Kani stirring things up again with his sideways stepping. At first you'd think he was a slippery Granuto, but he was actually a sneaky liar. But he was so sloppy that you couldn't end up hating him...

This was the final episode for Kishi Yosuke-san, Kani's actor. He added lots of fun crabby dribbles during the filming and dubbing, creating a totally new image for the Granuto.

🍰 Double cake revenge
As it was a Christmas episode, Scriptwriter Mouri-san came up with the idea to model this story after the famous Christmas play "The Magi's Gift". The story depicted two characters' misunderstandings and bonding using the Gochizo Buche de Noel as a key item.

Valen transformed with the power of Buche de Noel, which carried Shoma's feelings. He had a more lumberjack-like feel than Gavv's Buche de Noel form. The shape of his face somewhat resembled a reindeer, making this new Valen form perfect for Christmas!

And following on from last time, the Candy Whipped Soldiers appeared again! This time they fought with a team-play that resembled group gymnastics! Action Director Fujita-san's directions were strong this time around.
Image

Though Shouma and Hanto still had some lingering resentment between them... they ended up having a fun Christmas party to close the year. Why not spend this Christmas eating cakes and crab hotpots?

👅 Jellyfish's exploration of the human world
I gave this topic a light-hearted title, but what he did was pretty cruel... After the courtroom, Raage9 want to the movie theater as an enclosed place where a large number of people gathered.

The movie that was playing was "My Neighbor is My Girlfriend," which was produced as a movie within "Yodonna 3." It was a scene featuring actor Mizuishi Atom-san (KirameiBlue) playing the character Oshikiri Shiguru in a very passionate scene. Shoji-kun was being shown a passionate scene starring his former co-star Mizuishi-san in an unexpected place... (lol)

It was a scene that was chosen by chance and unintentionally, but it might miraculously be connected to "The Magi's Gift." If you're interested, please check it out on TTFC (Toei Special Effects Fan Club) or DVD/Blu-ray!

I like that the Jellyfish dude's name/codename is Raage9.

Raage9 -> Raage Kyu ->Kyu Raage -> Kurage (Jellyfish)

also, given we don't see him eat those candies, he doesn't seem to be jonesing like Kani was, and he's concerned with earning the trust of the company and being at HQ, I'm betting he's secretly an undercover Granuto cop trying to pull a sting operation, and that'll be the justification for him switching sides to become a good guy later in the season, not unlike Rogue in Build.

because I saw someone on twitter pointing out that, while we were already commenting on Gavv's belt having the Build Driver style crank handle from day 1, this new belt Nyelv's built is clearly just a spin on the Sclash Driver, given that a) it's blue and yellow, b) it's got what looks to be a single handle on the wearer's right that you operate like a lever, and c) despite ostensibly being the same power source (in Build, the jellies were just more strongly concentrated versions of what was in the bottles, and here that pudding item is clearly meant to be a gochizo) they're a differently shaped item for the henshin that takes the form of a packet with a viscous substance in it (jelly/pudding), and they're in a unique form that doesn't appear to be capable of fitting in the original Rider's belt.

on top of that is Valen using a gun to transform, in reference to Night Rogue and Blood Stalk being gun based henshins.

given that, I won't be at all surprised if Valen ends up getting that belt/a copy of it to use for a power up form in like a month or two.

new thought, though: if this guy is going to be the third Rider, and also we're somewhere around 1/3 of the way through the season, does this lessen the chances Sachika will be a Rider? or is it going to turn out like that scrapped plan for Rinne in Gotchard, where the producer wanted her belt to be worn by a pretty boy first, and then she'd steal it to become a Rider proper, so that her belt could be sold retail?

ooh, it seems kind of obvious now that you say it lol

>on top of that is Valen using a gun to transform, in reference to Night Rogue and Blood Stalk being gun based henshins.

just don't give us a max hazard style berserk form. Like someone in our chat pointed out, they've been doing that almost every year since Build and it's such a tired trope at this poitn

Was that really the plan? Sounds like Toei though. If this is how Sachika gets her belt, that makes more sense than introducing some random third Rider from a character we've never seen before

Solid episode. Not great, but good enough. Sad that we won't be getting anymore Gavv till next year!

As much as I want to buy into Hanto's idea to infiltrate the Granuto world, it is very half-assed at best. He doesn't even have his Driver with him, so he won't be able to transform. He would most likely end up being tortured or turned into Dark Treat without being able to figure out anything much. I've always thought of Hanto to be quite intelligent, so this ill-devised plan seems abit out of character for me. Shouma did save him from a certain death over there.

I seriously love how comical the whipped cream soldiers are. Catching a glimpse of what they do in the background in between all the fights have been a treat. Part of me wonder, is their childish behavior a reflection of Shouma's own?

The episode ends with the gang just celebrating Christmas together, which is sweet. A third Rider looms ahead, so that's something to look forward to next year.
Complete. Start Up. 3. 2. 1. Time Out. Reformation.

a thought: I already mentioned the Raage9 -> Kurage thing earlier, but Raage9 is meant to be a codename, right?

what if ALL of the terrible Granuto names for the enemies of the week so far have been Stomach Company code names, done in the style of Geats' Rider names, where it's taking the name/sounds/something from whatever animal they're meant to be, and intentionally twisting it a bit, so the pun is evident, but it's not just a direct name, which is why the art dealer one was based on the "-dine" from Sardine but not just explicitly called Sardine or something?

That'd make sense and explain the bad names. I only knew his name was Raage9 because of the captions so that was some meta info that I had access to. is this really the first time we hear him addressed as Raage9?
