Ugh, between recap and reused footage it takes a minute and a half before we get to the fight

But this fight is pretty good. Love kabuto using his big horn to fight. Kabuto's wings are a bit puny, aren't they?

It's not my favorite story arc, but there was some heart in Rakia's story. And it's nice to bring him into the fold as the newcomer, giving him screen time with both Sachika and learning his own lessons. The only downside for me is that it does feel like it does come at the expense of Shouma and Hanto getting the "too sick to get screen time" syndrome though

Suga is just mask off next time. Fantastic. Was not expecting him to transform

Sachika's talk with Rakia was heartwarming. He probably forgot what happiness was ever since his brother died. He acted surprise because he never would have thought someone would wish him to be happy. It's sometimes nice to know that there's still someone who cares about yourself. Rakia's talk with Kouji was also very nice. Two awkward society outcasts bonding over snacks. Such peaceful humane moments.

Looks like Hanto is finally finding out the truth, and we can move on from this part of the story. I'm tired of seeing Bitter Gavv's one-tone personalities.

New forms, new revelations, new relationships in next episode, should be a good one.

I wonder what else Nyelv was cleaning up other than the mess of Rakia's betrayal. Maybe his involvement of leading to Comer's death?

Rakia
This episode brought out a side of Rakia that we've never seen before. His costume had been the same for a long time, but it had been completely revamped since the last episode! The clothes wore underneath were similar, but the costume was now a much brighter color, which gave a completely different impression. He was also wearing the hat that was his trademark back when he was working for the Stomach company. Director Shibasaki was particular about this selection, saying, "The way the hat lets his eyes peek out is cool!" Weren't the clothes generated by a Mimic Key?? Even Granutos want to be fashionable!!!

Although Rakia looked down on humans, he saw Kouji like his younger brother Comer. According to the director, Kouji's character setting was he didn't have a lot of friends and lived more like an outcast. Yokoyama Ayumu-kun did a great job of portraying that personality.

The scene between Sachika and Rakia was also very memorable. Just like when she spoke to Shouma in episode 2, this scene really conveyed Sachika's beliefs.

Of course the new side of Rakia was interesting, but the director's goal was "to make Rakia look cool." The scene where he transformed after receiving a blow from an agent, which wasn't in the script, was also a special touch. The director said he searched for the angle that would made Rakia looked the coolest.


The Kabutoman
The inside story behind the creation of Kabutoman, which I didn't get to write about last time. Based on the screenwriter Mouri's idea of ​​"I want to do a virtual streamer Granuto", we moved forward with the production of the Kabutoman video from the script meeting stage. We asked students from Tokyo Communication Art College to produce the Kabutoman video. Director Shibasaki actually taught at an affiliated school, and we had worked together on the Chemys for Kamen Rider Gatchard, so we decided to ask them again this time.

I actually visited the school with the director and had a direct meeting with the students. The illustrations were done by nerujorlet-san, and the animation by Kubota Yukinaga-san(久保田雪永).

nerujorlet-san provided us with a rough draft of the illustrations based on the director's request to add rhinoceros beetle element to a handsome man wearing armor, and also incorporated the coloring of Granuto. The director gave it the OK on the first try! Based on these illustrations, Kubota-san created several animations with different facial expressions. Although it appears in a short clip in the movie, the expressive, smooth movements made for a wonderful finish.


By the way, here is Kouji's rough design for Kabutoman. If you look closely, you'll see that the armour had elements of sweets and the badge had an illustration of a rhinoceros beetle, making it a design full of attention to detail!


Ice Cream Soldiers
Blizzard Sorbet Form has a new element! The ice cream cake that Shouma ate last time has been incorporated into his fight. Blizzard Sorbet Gavv uses GavvWhipper to summon soft-serve ice cream soldiers instead of whipped soldiers! The apron is shaped like an ice cream cone!

This wasn't planned when the Whipped Soldiers were first introduced, but just switching the aprons makes for a surprising change! No matter what anyone says, that is undoubtedly a soft serve ice cream. There was a fun touch this time as well, with the soft serve soldiers growing bigger and smaller... the characters of the helpful but slightly airheaded soldiers were still alive and well (lol)

ラキアの今までには見られなかった一面を引き出す回ということで、ラキア担当（？）の柴﨑監督が彼の魅力をたくさん引き出してくれました。

衣装も長らく同じでしたが、前回から一新！！
インナーの系統は似ていますが、かなり明るいカラーの衣装になって印象ガラっと変わっています。
そして、闇バイト時代にトレードマークだったハットも着用。
「帽子で目が見え隠れするのがカッコいい」という監督こだわりのセレクトとなっています！

服はミミックキーで生成されているんじゃないかって？？
グラニュートだってオシャレがしたいんです！！！！

人間を軽んじていたラキアですが、弟であるコメルに浩二君を重ねて兄貴肌を見せます。
浩二のキャラ設定としては、監督によると「たぶん友達は多くない、どちらかと言うとクラスの日陰者」という事でしたが、演じる横山歩さんがその雰囲気を見事に好演してくださいました。

幸果とラキアのシーンもとても印象的でしたね。
2話でショウマに対して語った時のように、幸果の信条がとてもよく伝わってくる場面。

ラキアの新しい一面はもちろん、今回の柴﨑組で監督がテーマにしていたのが「とにかくラキアをカッコよく撮る」ということ。
台本上にはなかったエージェントの一撃を受けてから変身するこのカットもこだわりの演出。
ラキアが一番カッコよく映るアングルを探って撮ったとおっしゃっていました。

盗まれたカブトダンシ
前回書ききれなかったカブトダンシの誕生秘話。
脚本の毛利さんの「バーチャル配信者のグラニュートをやりたい」というアイデアのもと、脚本の打ち合わせ段階からカブトダンシの映像制作を進めていきました。

今回カブトダンシの映像制作は『東京コミュニケーションアート専門学校』の学生さんにをお願いしました。
実は柴﨑監督が系列校で教鞭を取っていて、『仮面ライダーガッチャード』のケミーでもご一緒したご縁があり、今回またお願いすることになりました。

実際に監督と校舎に伺い、学生さんと直接打ち合わせをしました。
イラストを担当したのはnerujorletさん、アニメーションを担当したのは久保田雪永さん。

「甲冑を着た美男子にカブトムシの要素を入れてほしい」という監督のオーダーの元イラストのラフをnerujorletさんにあげてもらいました。
グラニュートのカラーリングも入れていただき見事監督からは一発OK！
このイラストをもとに表情違いで、久保田さんにいくつかアニメーションをつくっていただきました。
劇中では短い映像になっていますが、表情豊かにぬるぬる動いていて素晴らしい仕上がりとなっていました。

ちなみに、浩二君のカブトダンシのラフデザインはこちら。
よく見ると甲冑にスイーツの要素が入っていたり、バッチにはカブトムシのイラストが入っていたりなど、細部にもこだわりが詰まったデザインとなっています！

そして、今回ブリザードソルベフォームのガヴにも新しい要素が！
前回食べたアイスケーキがなんとアクションにも取り入れられました。

ブリザードソルベガヴがガヴホイッピアを使い、ホイップ兵ならぬソフトクリーム兵を召喚！

前垂れがアイスのコーンになっています！！！
ホイップ兵が登場した当初はもちろん想定されていませんでしたが、前垂れを変えるだけで驚きの変化が！
誰がなんと言おうが、これはまごうことなきソフトクリームです。

今回も楽しいアタリ演出がありまして、ソフトクリーム兵が大きくなったり小さくなったり…役に立つけどちょっと抜けてる兵隊のキャラクターは健在でした(笑)

Another solid episode all around. Love learning more about Rakia and seeing him grow closer to humanity (as well as the return of his Invisible Jelly), and love seeing new aspects of Shoma's powers.
That being said, though, how is Shoma still this sick? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's been at least a few days in-universe, shouldn't he be on the rebound by now?
