Re: Theme
If you're referring to the opening credits theme then yes for about 2/3 of the series it changed periodically to sometimes reflect upon the main character or feel of the episode. However it still was the same theme (just played differently to give it a different feel). For the end 1/3 it was changed to a song sung by the guy who sung the closing credits.

Re: Theme
Yeah, depending on who the main character of the episode is, the song will have a more accented part played by that Oni's respective instrument. If it's a Hibiki-centered episode, there'll be heavy drums, if it's an Ibuki episode, you'll hear some trumpet solos, and Zanki and Todoroki get guitar riffs.

Re: Theme
You forgot about the female vocals. I'm not sure just who she sings for, but it's a nice change. (I half think it's just for spice, and no one in particular.)

You're right, I knew I was missing something. Thanks for that.

and the flute! Don't forget the flute!
I really wish there was a version of 'Kagayaki' with all the instruments mixed together. Hell I even love the xylophone version they use as background music during the 'serious talk' segments between Hibiki and Asumu.
