Re: ZyuRanger to be released on DVD in US by Shout! Factory
They actually called it Sentai Zyuranger on their Twitter, so I think the most they'll do to the series name is translate Kyoryu to Dinosaur, which is fair enough.

I hate the overbearing translations.
I tried to watch the official subbed Digimon Adventure 02 a few years ago, and it was jarring to see names and references replaced entirely.
I just didn't like it.

If memory serves, that was likely the translations that Toei's company did.AncientLemurian wrote:I tried to watch the official subbed Digimon Adventure 02 a few years ago, and it was jarring to see names and references replaced entirely.

Shout Factory likely will use a different translator than that.

Yes--I do remember that now. Very surprising news hope if it leads to more sentai and rider getting licensed.

even if they get a broad sentai license, would that mean you can no longer do the current season each week?

Licensed or not we should still do it. you know our subs will be better and more entertaining. plus they say it was saban brands idea so you know this was only done to try to kill fansubs as a whole.
Anyone remember when the news didn't want to make you punch the nearest thing to you, me neither.

Re: ZyuRanger to be released on DVD in US by Shout! Factory
I didn't even think about the possibility of their translation being over-Americanized to appeal to more people... that might suck.
Well, maybe the DVDs will have options: one subtitle track for the general public, and one for longtime fans.
I'm going to try to think positive. I can understand people's objections (in addition to potential issues with the translation, there won't be any more free Zyuranger), but this news is probably for the best.
For one thing, it's not like we've gotten a new subbed Zyuranger episode in a while anyway. Plus if Shout does this series (and especially if they do even more sentais), it'll free up TV-N to do other projects. Maybe they can work on more obscure stuff that's less likely to get an official release, like older Metal Heroes shows.

have you guys thought of joining Shout! or volunteering to help out with the translation?

I wonder why they decided to do this now, and not years ago?

The only way that will happen is if enough fans spam Shout's email and Twitter requesting such a thing.TBustah! wrote:Well, maybe the DVDs will have options: one subtitle track for the general public, and one for longtime fans.
As for if TVN will stop subbing and remove all sentai, I think they'll decide on what to do on a show by show basis depending on what Shout announces, unless they get a C&D. It would be dumb to just stop subbing and remove all Sentai shows if all Shout! is gonna release is ZyuRanger. The only way for more Sentai to get official US DVD releases is if this ZyuRanger set sells well

Re: ZyuRanger to be released on DVD in US by Shout! Factory
I would be excited but I have to say I am horrified. The release Shout did of Ultraseven was a mess. First off the "special" price for pre-ordering quickly lowered after release. Why? The subs where horrid and sometimes did not make sense not as bad as HK subs though. And the Kappa ep. they refused to use Kappa they continued to translate that as monster. The whole episode is about a Kappa, and I have not found one person who doesn't know what a kappa is (asking non-anime fans). Subs aside the DVDs were glitchy, the biggest damage to the release. Flashing between black, white, greenish. DVDs skipping, refusing to fast forward. My friend was lucky to get an unglitchy copy but I got a bad copy.
But then what is the chances of two bad releases-knock on wood.

LUCKY! Like I said some people got glitchy DVDs some didn't. What did you think of the subs by Shout?Go-On Macaroni wrote:Really? My copy of Ultraseven didn't do any of that {glitchy stuff}. O_o

That's what I am a bit worried about. Losing decent fansub to horrible licensed subtitles...I mean they also did horrible job captioning MMPR dvds. So many errors....
Oh well. Guess we can only wait and see whether it either succeed or end up in failure.
