Kiramager Episode 36 released

Alt Title: Festivus Day

Guess that was the big Christmas episode, even though it didn't feel like it. Not a fan of all the rapping

Yodonna is definitely carrying around the Emperor for whatever reason

notes:

more of the creepy comics

more of the nonsense crystalia script

more DJ Yodonna please

oh, I don't like that effect of the thing poking in my face

that ending makes me think they won't be together forever

I knew they'd wear the dresses at the end, just didn't think it'd just be for the brief gag in the ending

Massive props to xiiliea for actually rhyming the rap lines. And no, Jyuuru never rhymes his lines, they're really just that boring

I was hoping that Kurantula would materialize massive speakers out of nowhere during his raps.

I did enjoy the Fire/Jyuuyu back and forth rap but I would think that it was odd for Jyuuyu's actor to rap at a toy. I wonder if that rap was done in post or not.

I'd be sad if he is, because this is only what, his second time ever directly confronting the heroes? And I thought both times so far have been really fun!

I don't personally think this quite tops Ryusoulger's Chirstmas episode, but it certainly has its own kind of... uniqueness.

Hm! defeating a general at christmas is new. and gotta show off all the toys!
Really reminded me of the episode of shinkenger where the gedoshu used truth to hurt the team except Kotoha as she believed the hurtful truths about herself. i guess Jyuuru is the Kotoha of the team being the kid brother and all. but whatre they doing with Yodonna anyways? like is she Yodam and just a puppet? and there's an open spot in the intro for a 4th yodom general so there's that if anything.....

Another AWESOME episode. LOVED IT!! I hope Kiramager only gets better till the end.
So this time Kruntula is taking the lead. What got him so fired up or made him sick this time that he thought no one but he can make it work?
The dresses were indeed nice. What’s with that fan with Shiguru’s Hakama?
It’s interesting that they did this on Crystas. Nice contrast of them insulting the Mashins the most on the one day they are forbidden to insult people.
They were looking funny when they were just standing there like they don’t have a care in the world, super depressed and annoyed at everything.
Wow, CRYSTAS ZOOM PARTY GATHERING! Nice COVID-19 incorporation! They’re adding the similar COVID-19 events to the storyline amazingly. Kids, party and talk to people via video conferences from your own homes during quarantine…. Really cool way to deliver that message.
Why was Takamichi ALMOST ESCORTING the girls? Whatever the case, I loved the Luka Millfy nudge tribute. ICONIC!
Why didn’t they notice those weird black stains on the others’ faces immediately?
Mean indeed. I agree with Sena’s complain a bit with the “Goodbye” after the fight is over part. Although it should be obvious to everyone that the Mashins and the Kiramagers are just partners in battles and not as a whole. And is Sayo referring to the glass wall they have between the main room of the head quarters and the place where the Stones rest and are repaired? Man, Sayo’s expression was….. spot on(maybe….) for her remarks.
I think I finally see the difference between the characters in Crystalian language. They look a bit like super cursive and scribbled form of Japanese characters.
As expected, Tametomo is the harshest and meanest when he is mad.
Fire’s snapping is way too vocal.
Wow, they were hurt. Have they never fought with their partners before? It maybe Crystas, but they should have been a little more patient, considering those LARGE and WEIRD stains on their faces. And that’s how they close off their hearts? By closing that glass wall between the HQ main room and the resting place of the stones? Lol..
Well, it’s good to know(from that Santa guy) that it’s still Christmas on earth, even though they’re TOTALLY NOT acting like it. No Xmas trees or lights, and people wearing SCHOOL UNIFORMS…. Seriously, don’t they have breaks during Xmas or is it just in the Kiramager world? At least Kruntula is still Xmas themed and has a Xmas themed microphone. Is that the whole purpose of Kruntula’s character? A Xmas themed(or at least colored) general to bring out and be destroyed during the Xmas season…?
Ouch, I totally feel bad for Sena because of Kruntula’s comment….. Sad… I get that the comment about Sena is really bad, but have the others not faced bad comments about their work before? That must be it, or why else are they so badly hurt? I guess the insult about Sayo is pretty rude but I don’t think it should hurt that much. After all, they’re adults.
Wow, the 4 of their occupations totally rhyme!!!
How much effort did Kruntula put in his plan that he is staking his life on it?
Takamichi’s complain about Juru is TOTALLY FAIR!! FINALLY someone brought up the fact about Juru addressing the members of the team without proper honorifics despite being YEARS younger than every single one of them.
I guess Kruntula’s plan is pretty good if it earned Yodonna’s praise….
Finally they put the out of control CARAT members to sleep… It took them that long to think of putting the berserk members to sleep??? Where was that idea last episode? I guess they learned their lesson at least.
Wow, the strikes at their heart is ACTUALLY visible on their X-rays…. Everything is way too literal…. Lol.
Oh, so the Mashins are off wandering in the city…
Aww.. I feel for Fire…
Wait, how are the other 5 Kiramagers present in the MC battle location? I thought they were put to sleep by Muryo…???
Wow…. The Kiramagers are Starstruck after seeing Kruntula… And their reaction after Juru comes to the stage… Lol. Although, why was Juru in his Kiramager form when came to the stage exactly? Didn’t get that bit.
Juru is really bad at rapping…. Though it’s true that everyone other than his CARAT friends aren’t nice to him. I forgot that bit because of how they keep praising him for his connection to Oradin and optimism.
That diss rap battle became reminiscence of the time they spent together as partners and an expression of gratefulness. I liked it. And Oradin acknowledged that bit out loud too … Lol.
Why did they stop using the Kiraful Go mode together as a team and have only Juru use the power-up during the ground fights?
Also, I think you guys forgot to add Shiguru’s dialogue when he called out “Sena” at 16:17 .
All of the Mashin gathered together in one place that’s not their base… That was nice to see.
The team role-call after a looong time…. This time the Mashins included, really nice. Also, why is Mashin Express the only semi-sentient stone to not speak at all? I feel bad for him.
Wait, how did even Drijan leave? Don’t Drijan and Takamichi share the same body…? And when did they become partners?
Another Mech battle with all 4 of their Giant Robos. I liked this battle too.
So, Kruntula is gone for good….?
Does this mean that Fire is gonna stay on Earth with Juru even after the battle is over?
So, in the end, no separate scene for a party or celebration? Just a mid-ED scene of the JUST THE 3 of them and Mach…??!! SERIOUSLY, what kind of XMAS special episode is this??!!! I get it that it’s different but, kore wa iyada!!! This is THE ONLY REASON why I’m gonna rate this episode 4 stars instead of 5.
Again with Mashins being obsessed with their partners…. Get over it already. Why aren’t they done with that yet? I mean, it’s episode 36…. Especially Mach’s lust for Sena…. Mou yamete!!
Spoiler
Next time we’ll get an episode focused on JUST THE 2 GIRLS!! THIS WAS THE EPISODE I’VE BEEN WAITING TO WATCH ALL SEASON!! THE PREVIEW LOOKS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!! IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE “GILRS IN TROUBLE” FROM DEKARANGER. It’s interesting since Sayo and Marika, ad Sena and Umeko are so similar. And from the looks of it, Sena’s might ATTEMPT SUICIDE…..!! Whoa, DARK!!
Looking at Kiramager, I’m wondering if Zenkaiger can be better than this…. If it can’t, then Zenkaiger will be a failure and total disappointment to me. Fingers crossed that Zenkaiger surpasses Kiramager.

Umm, no. Japan isn't ethnically Christian, it's only 1.5% of the population. Christmas day is still a regular work/school day. A lot of people may have a nice dinner and give their kids like one present but it's just an excuse to party/shop/have a date.

Oh, I didn't know that either. My bad.... I thought that they have breaks on this day in Japan since Xmas is like an international holiday and I think(not sure if it's true :| ) that in a lot of Asian countries it's a holiday with breaks. Although I do know that Japan isn't ethnically Christian.

Not being a native Japanese speaker does take some of the joy out of a rap-themed episode. But that makes the translation job all the more important; kudos to xiiliea on coming up with lines that work in English! :D

On the whole, this is a pretty light episode. No MOTW, no big fights, and a good chunk of the mecha footage was recycled. But obvious behind-the-scenes logistics aside, it still managed to have enough going on to fill out the episode with entertaining material. Kurantula's status as a half-face villain makes him quite unique, so it's nice to see him get out from time to time and raise hell. The writing on this series isn't always strong, but whenever they've given Kurantula a real plot, it's turned out well.

Also, kids, here's all the aux mecha in case you've forgotten to buy them!

Finally, was the rap battle MC anyone famous? That's one of those character placements where Toei could have gone either way, as they've snuck famous people in spots like that before.
takenoko wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 9:34 pm Yodonna is definitely carrying around the Emperor for whatever reason
The writers really haven't given us any hints on this one, have they? I presume that the Emperor is using Yodonna as a trojan horse to more directly collect dark energy, but the plot is wide-open for the writers on this one.
I knew they'd wear the dresses at the end, just didn't think it'd just be for the brief gag in the ending
I had the same thought. I wonder if the episode ran long? They're pretty good dresses for such a short gag.

Jyuuru's lips match the lyrics. I don't doubt they did a full dubbing in post for audio quality and mixing reasons, but it would seem he also performed part of that rap on-location.
takenoko wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:53 am Do is Kurantula dead?
Yeah, so that's the other really big thing in this episode. They seem to have offed the monster maker with something like 8 episodes to go?! Admittedly we are getting to that point where generals have to start dying to make room for the endgame, but Christmas seems just a tad early, especially when the Yodom army only has 3 generals to begin with.

While it could be a fake-out, at this point I'm assuming it's not, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with the setup in the first place. Kurantula only got a handful of episodes throughout the series to begin with, so this was probably his last one anyhow - and thus he may as well get to go out fighting.

I think he is. https://www.toei.co.jp/tv/kiramager/sto ... _3066.html
According to Toei tv's site, the rap battle MC is played by someone named Shinpeita(I'm not sure about the name since I only read the machine translation). He was in charge of supervising and instructing the raps in this episode.

I didn't think so. When I checked the Japanese wiki, they hadn't added his name to the guest list, so I didn't bother to look it up myself

I feel like they've made several overt hints that she's got him. For one thing, when Yodonna was about to die, that's when the Emperor told Garuza to go save Yodonna. And in the last episode, the manifestation of the emperor and Yodonna overlapped in some way (I have forgotten the details at this point)

Why were the writings visible on the X-rays? Totally dumb thing to do

Also, unless Toei goofed up, Takamichi's name is spelled "Crystaria"

I didn't even notice that the subtitles rhymed... did they really?

For a brief moment, I thought Yodonna was going to turn to the side of humans when that thing with Yodom-sama happened

Agreed 👍🏽
Spoiler
I'm really hyped for the next episode! I would really want to see five Senas! As it goes, it coincides with a certain belief of mine...
Going to give this episode a 4 out of 5
