I saw a YT video for a sentai, looked more adult themed. kinda had hurricanger style henshin devices, but has a small cube as the catalyst.

of course, anything I look for for "cube sentai" gives me nothing but jyuohger, so....

anyone else know what I'm talking about?

So let me get this straight: a Japanese porn company is going to make a legit 6 episode Sentai series? And then they're going to make a porno of it?

And TV-N is going to sub this? After the collective trauma that was Shougeki Gouraigan? (Actually, it would be hard to be worse than Shougeki Gouraigan )

In all seriousness, I would have assumed this was a straight-up low-budget parody. But those suits are surprisingly legit. So this is all rather confusing.

Man, just when I think I've seen the weirdest toku-related thing that Japan can pull out, the rabbit hole goes deeper. I knew Dekaranger was popular, but this is taking it to a whole new level.

And 22 movies really is a lot. Just doing the math in my head, even assuming they're just 60 minutes long, that would amount to 22 hours of Deka-inspired footage. Dekaranger itself was only 50 22 minute episodes (not counting the ED), or a bit over 18 hours of footage. So there has been more Deka-porn produced than actual Dekaranger content!

I guess this means they must be doing something right? I have no idea what this will mean for Wakusaber, but it certainly piques my curiosity.

Cripes. I didn't realize there was even more Sentai parody stuff.

I can't believe I'm even contemplating this, but how the heck are they able to afford this?! Even a bad costume is expensive to make, let alone something a bit closer to Toei's standards.

Also, all of this has to be, like, super weird for Kinoshita Ayumi and Kikuchi Mika. It clearly isn't just the suits that are being mimicked.

I imagine they're probably not quite as good as Toei's (especially with the helmets, given the cost). But the Wakusaber stuff certainly looks top-to-bottom legit.

They aren't even trying to hide it, judging from those Deka parody covers.

Does Japan not have legally codified personality rights? If you tried something like this in the US, you'd get hit with a lawsuit so fast that your head would spin.

Not really, iirc there was the Palin porn parody years ago. I think as long as it's a parody and not claiming it's the real person it's hard to prosecute

I'm assuming you're talking about the US?

The bar for parodying politicians is quite low, and understandably so. Protections for actors (and other real people) are much higher. Fair use law is prickly (and frequently tested), but typically, obscenity significantly diminishes any right to parody individuals. e.g. you can parody the character Black Widow, but if it's going to be obscene, then the character had better not look too much like Scarlett Johansson.

Yeah. It's a Japanese porn company making a clean Sentai series. To quote the wiki: "A toku series by GIGA. The company mainly creates pornos along a heroine theme. The TV series is supposed to be clean, with a porno movie coming later. "
