She can't shoot a beam for reasons. Her mom gives her a lecture about focusing, to which she reacts by thinking her mom lectures too much and thinks she's hungry, and maybe being hungry is why she couldn't do the beam

I was also having trouble figuring out what was flashback and what was present, but if I watch it again it will probably be more clear.

Some thoughts:

Riho does not want to get her clothes dirty.

I am really expecting that the real reason why Riho loses power is because of a visit by Aunt Flo. The fact that episode 2 is set 30 days after episode 1 makes me even more suspicious. Maybe Giga missed a good gag opportunity by not having a fake name of a tampon company as a "sponsor"?

If Giga really wanted to power up their tokusatsu they would have an ending dance before the next episode previews.

General Zora (Nana Maeno's character) seems really competent and a good communicator.

It's nice to see that the combatants get a credit (Team Samuraiman) in the opening. They are working super hard to make Riho look like she could kick some butt.

I am impressed by their use of background music. In the first episode the heroic opening theme gets cut off when Riho gets that not so fresh feeling and starts losing. They also switch music this episode.

The scene I would like to see: The MOTW is grappling with Riho. The background music changes. "Ho ho ho! You're helpless now. The background music changed." Riho one punches the MOTW. "Psyche!"

They probably don't have a choice here since the annoying ringtone is the bad weather/kaiju emergency alert signal and is annoying by design.
