We're starting media res? With how experimental the story telling has been this season, I'm surprised we haven't used this as much
There's Dagdaddy
Wait, we're evacuating again? Did the last crisis end and they just went home?
I guess if you were just a colony to begin with and you've had a crazy god doing population control on your planet, your planet's population would be surprisingly small
I won't spoil the game, but something about this scenario reminds me of a pretty good sci fi game I played a few years ago
Oh, Kamejimu showed his hand earlier than I thought
What? Was not expecting Deznaraku to be back
I liked that episode better than I thought I would, but again, the team is sidelined. The story beats with the aides finding the king's symbols is good. I just don't think finding the hologram of Gira and watching their apocalyptic log has some obvious drawbacks. I mean, as far as the viewer knows, everyone but Gira is dead at the beginning. We don't even get signs of life till the preview shows they're all okay
Edit: Now that I have the full prologue written out, it's kind of poetic? Sometimes they can pull some good lines out
Edit edit:
Just finished my translation. It's baffling how good the writing can be

Re: King-Ohger 48 discussion post
Not having the narration during opening theme really threw me off. That's one way to tell the viewers this episode will be different that the others.
I'm kind of tired seeing them just fighting and losing to Dagdedo again and again, so I'm actually glad this episode focused on what the other people think of all this.
I enjoyed this episode very much. The humor didn't take away from the serious stuff, like when Gira didn't know how to end the speech was very in-character. I also like when a show is self-aware, like making fun of the Shugoddom loudmouth who we all found annoying.
The rulers hid the message because knew their aides won't leave if they knew the plan beforehand, which was what ended up happening.
Oh right, Shugoddom had the technology to revive Bugnaraku. Racles stopped his henshin mid-way, so I guess he's the one who revived Deznarok.
We're going to get Middle Earth style battle scenes. Fitting for a kingdom-themed show to have a full on armies clash on the battlefield. But they are they going to do it in that tiny studio?

The endgame arcs of most Sentai series tend to be a blast, and King-Ohger is certainly delivering on that - in more ways than one.
Coming off of the heels of last week's fantastic episode, this one keeps up the energy. Though with last week giving each of the rulers a chance to shine, this week they have a much lighter touch. With so much going on it's not really an aide-focused episode, but there's also not a lot of the kings in it either, despite this being the antepenultimate episode of the series. It's rare that your main characters have this little screen time at this point into the series.
The rulers setting up to sacrifice themselves definitely tugs at the heartstrings a bit. The title of the episode (Farewell, My Beloved People) kind of gave away that something like this was going to happen. But still, the in media res opening showing us that their desperate fight was going to fail, coupled with an "leave the planet" level evacuation plan really set up the hopelessness of the situation. Especially with the flying castle in the background.
Of course, that's not how the tropes go - especially not in Super Sentai - so everyone opts to stay behind anyhow. Even though, given the current state of things, it's a stupid-ass decision. But I don't think it's a spoiler to point out that the heroes are going to win before this series is done.
Meanwhile, Dagdedo continues to live up to his status. What's an omnipotent god to do when he finds out his enemies are plotting to kill him - and may actually have the means of doing so? Crash the party and waste no time in absolutely wrecking the place. The Big Bad leveling everything is pretty standard fare in Sentai, but Dagdedo continues to go about it in a way that's a breath of fresh air from how things normally go. Of course, since this is Sentai, at this point I fully expect his downfall to be his hubris and not expecting the "ants" to do something. But we'll see what happens once we get there.
As an aside, I appreciate that the writers/VFX staff didn't forget that Yanma copied the power to kill an immortal. While it doesn't get explicitly mentioned here, we do see the rulers attempting to use it (their glowing swords), only for it to fail because Dagdedo is prepared for it and is perfectly blocking all of their strikes. This also marks the second (and probably final) time we see their lightning mode attacks, which of course all fail as well.
And if the plot and the episode number didn't clue you in, you can tell this episode is approaching the end due to the budget. Besides the extra VFX, that's a lot of extras they have on hand for this episode, and you can tell they're struggling to fit them all on their virtual set. I certainly don't mind the extra budget, or the cleaner chroma keying that seems to come with it.
And Deznaraku is back?! Okay, that is truly unexpected. I thought he was done and gone 23 episodes ago. He's dead, and he's pissed!
Overall, nothing about this episode was really groundbreaking. But the show is executing very well on the tropes it has opted to employ. They still have to stick the landing, but thus far they're right on course.
Finally, there were a couple of translation/text errors in the Anon release I picked up on.
3:57: Yanma is listing off the King-Ohger combos. So the first one is not "King-Ohger Legend", but rather "King-Ohger" and then "Legend", "Extreme", etc.
7:33: "If I were to I personally joined the cleaning game for the first time..." I think this got jumbled in tenses.
I think this is also the only time we've seen him do his full roll call? I like it!

It's been used a few times so far, hasn't it? I feel like anything more than that would get boring quickly.
It does seem that way, Yanma would need time to come up with the ultimate plan, after all.Wait, we're evacuating again? Did the last crisis end and they just went home?
Oh? Which game was that?I won't spoil the game, but something about this scenario reminds me of a pretty good sci fi game I played a few years ago
In some respects, I'm glad he (seemingly) isn't going to be the true Big Bad. It means that he's gone underused in the second half of the series, but at the same time anything else would just undermine what Dagdedo has been doing.Oh, Kamejimu showed his hand earlier than I thought
I think this is also the only time we've seen him do his full roll call? I like it!
The show isn't done yet. But for as much as it drunkenly stumbled through the first 30 episodes, it's definitely found a more solid footing in the back-half. It helps when it's not writing fart jokes, I reckon.Just finished my translation. It's baffling how good the writing can be
Oh, so that's what was different! I was trying to figure out why the intro seemed a bit off.
While it's true that they can revive the Bugs (I had almost entirely forgotten about that), in this case I don't think that's the case here. The vault(?) Deznaraku emerged from was adorned with skeletons. And he mentioned being back from the land of the dead. I do believe that's meant to be literal in this case, rather than figurative. Especially with the discussion at the very beginning about Gira planning to go back there.Oh right, Shugoddom had the technology to revive Bugnaraku. Racles stopped his henshin mid-way, so I guess he's the one who revived Deznarok.
Either a lot of rapid and careful cuts, or they'll rent out a bigger studio. We're going to get Middle Earth style battle scenes. Fitting for a kingdom-themed show to have a full on armies clash on the battlefield. But they are they going to do it in that tiny studio?

antepenultimate doesn't feel like it has enough modifiers

I mean, this is what bored gods do

Here's what surprised me. I always thought the King's Symbol powers and the Shugods were the remnants of another being on t he same level as Dagdedo. I wasn't expecting him to be this cosmic level horror entity. He's basically god in their world and he hates his creations. So I was pretty surprised to find out that he basically gave them the means for his destruction
>As an aside, I appreciate that the writers/VFX staff didn't forget that Yanma copied the power to kill an immortal. While it doesn't get explicitly mentioned here, we do see the rulers attempting to use it (their glowing swords),
Oh, I totally missed that. This is why I need commentary during my fight scenes lol

Ah, right. That makes sense
7:33: "If I were to I personally joined the cleaning game for the first time..." I think this got jumbled in tenses.
sentence probably got frankenstined together with a few suggestions
>It's been used a few times so far, hasn't it? I feel like anything more than that would get boring quickly.
Maybe, I just remember it was way overused in DonBrothers. It's fine here, I'm just sensitive from it being overplayed before
Horizon Zero Dawn had a big apocalyptic style cataclysm too, and I think their operation was called Enduring Victory
>I think this is also the only time we've seen him do his full roll call? I like it!
He's only said his nickname once before. Overall the jesters are kind of a mess. It's too bad their team dynamics weren't better, since they're essentially t his story's anti-sentai

You're probably right, there's also that whale singing sound right before the gate opened.ViRGE wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 1:48 am hile it's true that they can revive the Bugs (I had almost entirely forgotten about that), in this case I don't think that's the case here. I'm excited that they brought him back. I loved the past-enemy-returns-as-allies trope. Kamejimu is going to die so painfully.

How are they gonna fit the entire population of the planet in the ship? Although based on this scene, it seems to be a few hundred people at most.
Seen:
Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.
Precure: DokiDoki-Go Pri
Metal Heroes: Gavan

Re: King-Ohger 48 discussion post
We've never had a good look at the total population since they can't hire enough actors (let alone fit them on the virtual set). But between the castle and the Shugods, apparently the population is small enough to fit into all of them. Which is as much information on the population size as we're going to get, I expect.HowlingSnail wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 4:12 pm How are they gonna fit the entire population of the planet in the ship? We don't really know how many people originally came to this planet, but given it's been 2000 years and they don't all seem horribly inbred, I'd imagine there would be at LEAST a few million living there by now.

Wait, how did Dagdedo summon Bugnaraks to attack kingdoms? I thought only Grody could revive the dead, but it's not the case here, it seems?
