Ratings for last week's episode: 4.54 out of 5 (13 votes)

Red's certainly are fickle and mysterious nowadays aren't they?

I hope they make a joke about BoonBoom being fuedl by curry

5 episodes in, they still haven't removed the interlacing from the cars during the sponsor

Darts Gurumaa has a pretty fantastic design

Are blue and pink blind? There's two police cars right in front of them

Why is black wearing BoonBoom's overalls from last week? At least come up with a story for why he grabbed them and put them on. Like "You can't wear your police uniform here. Put something else on"

I've never noticed the, what are they called this time. Neji's faces before. They're pretty freaky

Some people step on those feet massage things of their own free volition!

lol, would have loved to have seen the dart go in his face. Just put it in the target on his forehead lol

In the world of Sentai and Kamen Rider, there must be so many kaijin corpses in this warehouse

Every time I see red's face, I always feel like it's either too wide or too round. Pink's always wearing earrings isn't she?

I don't know who's cheating more, blue for using a gun to play a darts game, of Dart Gurumaa for moving (I rewound it three times to see if he was swatting it away with his hand)

Boon Pink and Blue stuck in their own mansai act

Let me guess, the end episode safety message is to not throw darts at people (If not, this episode is kinda irresponsible lol)

By the way, if you look at their license plate belt buckle, you can figure out the number pretty easily. I'm guessing this one is 1330

lol orange was carrying that around this whole time waiting for Jou to do his thing

Boon four and Boon five have different changers?

Oh, Black has a cool shoulder

Pink's pose gets an abbreviated version lol

Love pink's jump off the platform

Nice rolling throw, Black

Blue gets a roll on the platform and Pink some floor fighting

Overhead moving shot is neat

Awww, they should have had his shoulders light up when he does his finisher

After all that commotion about being the driver in episode 1, Pink is sent to the shameful shotgun seat in episode 5

Gotta do the DekaRanger Robo sideways jump while shooting lol

Huh, so Jou just wore black overalls for no reason? Boon still has his apron at the end. Why not just keep him in the police uniform? It'd have been cooler. Eveyrone else has such a style to their civilian outfit, while black just looks like he showed up in sweats

Show continues doing a workman good job at being entertaining and lighthearted in a classic sentai sort of way. My one continual complaint is by episode 5, we can see that the stories are going to be on the straightforward and light side this series. With the race happening each time, be necessity, any conflict that appears is more or less solved by the mid episode commercial break

Virge mentioned that the file size is nearly the same each time, by the same token, we've got a straightforward formula emerging of a problem being set, a problem being solved, the melee fight ending, the race, then the robot fight. You can say this has always been Sentai's formula, but I feel like the artifice of the storytelling shows a bit through here (Not that it's a damning thing or anything. The series is buoyed by the charming and fun characters, as well as excellent and imaginative fight sequences)

I just hope once all the characters are introduced, we can get some more complicated stories with these guys

Is this a long time since we see 2 rangers drive together 1 vehicle? When I see Blue and Pink drive together, It reminds me about 80s Sentai.

I don't think I've ever seen it myself. It's always been everyone gets their own toy, I mean vehicle

I was wondering why Genta was referring to t he other rangers as kids. His actor is 27. Pink is 23, Shiro is 22, Jou is 19, and Red is 19. Not that much older, but an entirely different age bracket in the world of youthful rangers, I guess lol

Any particular reason why Black (And presumably Orange) has his own changer? It's like how Go-On Green and Black did too, for seemingly no reason.

Mira's wearing yellow again in the preview. Will someone please explain the dress code to this girl?

Also, Nobrake being voiced by Ryu Commander is really obvious to my ears.

As a 27 year old, I resent the idea that I'm not still young.

If they do, that could explain why there's no Yellow Ranger.

^^^ LOL

Anyway...
Jun is very relatable and likeable. As a kid who hasn't dreamed of being a hero and beating up the bad guys heroically? A traditional becoming a real hero story that was easy to understand and enjoy.

It seemed wanting to be famous will be a running gag for the Hashiriyans.

The first batch of metal pens that fell on Pink when she stayed still were real, then the ones afterwards were cgi. I was thinking how the pens can follow her head perfectly when she's moving around. If not for plot armor the bad guys basically won already.

Love all the homage to Dekaranger Robo.

Her expressions are adorable.

The sentai production blog mostly just narrates what happened in the episode. There's some notes from Director Watanabe Katsuya:

Darts Gurumaa was originally supposed to be a more refined gentleman, but suit actor Imai Yasuhiko gave it an over the top comedic touch. So I asked Yamaguchi Noboru to be the voice actor. Darts was a monster who talked a lot so we spent a lot of time recording. We wanted to create a character that was "nervous and a bit out of place.''

The in-episode opening theme usually began when the full team assembled. It began with only a four-person lineup this time, but fans will enjoy this unusual placement.

I checked the past 10 years and the only Sentai have 2 member drive the vehicle is ToQger. Some episodes Pink - Yellow and Blue - Green drove the vehicle together.

The roll call they did in this episode is homege to Turboranger - the first car-theme Sentai.

I think why Jou doesn't wear his police uniform at the Boonboomger HQ is because he's not on duty as a police officer. I do wish he has some better civilian clothes as he looks like he's going to a swamp.

Kaijin corpses don't exist since they all naturally blow up.

Still better than Sena's main civilian outfit (not her athletics gear). I have no idea what planet that's considered fashionable on.

I'm enjoying this more and more. And the influence from 80's sentai becomes more and more obvious. Now we have numbered vehicles and with more than one hero inside! This is soooo 80s! Not to mention the clear Turboranger reference right there.

I looked it up, it's kind of cute. The weird jacket and the mini half skirt. I dunno. It's hard to make a green outfit work out

I'm a bit late in writing this up, but I only found this episode to be okay. It was entertaining enough, I suppose, but it was lacking something to really make it great.

The plot is by and large the standard "I want to be a hero" plot for having a new ranger join the team. They have the skills, but much like the plot itself, they lack something that they eventually find in this episode and earn their spot as a Ranger. In fact this episode gets downright Sixth Ranger-y at points - Toei spared no expense on pyrotechnics here - which is a bit surprising for what's only the 4th member of the team. But then we just have Jou laying around for what feels like forever, calling out the names of the Boonboomgers as they fall.

There's nothing I can really articulate that this episode does wrong. In fact I was rather amused with how the MOTW just blatantly lied, and Jou fights equally dirty in turn. But at the same time it feels like it was just going through the motions, rather than Jou doing something remarkable to earn his position. Maybe because he's just a brute force/damage sponge, rather than a thinker?

I dunno. Maybe I've just seen too many "X joins the team" Sentai episodes at this point?

On the plus side, we got a night fight with the giant robots in the city. That is always a fun time, as it lets Toei's model guys play with their little lights.

This episode in particular does highlight something that bugs me about Boonboomger Robo though: the fight suit has a noticeable lack of fingers. I'm not sure what exactly they're doing internally, but all of the weapons thus far are essentially mounted on the arms; the screwdriver, the sword car, etc. Similarly, the guns seem to be glued in place on the suit, rather than being held by the suit actor's fingers. This isn't the first time Toei has done this, I'm sure, but with oversized guns it's almost distracting in how obvious it is.

It's quite odd. It makes me wonder if someone screwed up and filmed it 1080i60 to begin with.

To paraphrase Contact- First rule in children's toymaking: why build one when you can have two at twice the price?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Jou's civvies to be lame. Everyone else is dressed so nicely, even if it's just a well-fitting three piece suit. But Jou is dressed so very plainly. It's out of place compared to the rest of the team, and just uninspiring overall. This is a very western take, but the first thing that comes to mind with that outfit is "hillbilly."
