Are we always going to see lion in the background? Jou does everything except his policeman job lol

Of cousre the Three Seaters are just out in the open watching him. Maybe if Jou did his job as a cop...

Those kids sure got hit by that beam lol

Jou single handedly turnign this into a baseball episode

Random thought, will we be getting any aerial vehicles?

The hell? Saibu looks like she's 14 in her baseball uniform

The Boonboomgers literally dropped the ball by letting Yalcar get a billion points on them

They just left Jou out in the field for the whole game? lol. This episode is both too slow and too fast

Look at those waves coming off that bro fist. It's so manly!

As usual, the Boonboomgers costume looks so comfy compared to the past. Boonboomgers is the sweats of the sentai world

Nice of them to make a baseball field for this robo fight. Cool to get a new location for this power-up intro

New robo is cool

Looks like next episode we'll learn something about Taiya

On today's "What's is it based on", this episode was based on the baseball manga "Gyakkyou Nine" drawn by Kazuhiko Shimamoto, who is known as the "fiery manga artist" and is also in charge of character design for the Hashiriyan characters.

Never knew I needed a sentai to play a baseball game for real (Well, as real as it can be). The plot went over my head but the match was fun, apparently lots of references to the manga.

Someone was having a lot of fun with the remote-controlled Car.

Jou got hit so hard he grew a mustache when he hit the wall. (Of course it'd be a stunt actor hitting the wall on his behalf)

They left him unconscious on the field? At least move him to the bench...

Their rollcall team pose was not their usual poses, were they baseball related? Taiya looked like he's doing the signal for homerun, and Mira looked like she's sliding into base.

That's a big metal clanking sound when Bondario jumped in on the victory hurdle. Someone's getting a huge bruise from that.

Wow, they actually built a whole stadium set for the giant fight to take place (and burn).

A super fiery BoonBoomger baseball tournament, perfect for summer. It was an episode that baseball fans will love, but beginners may be confused. It was a chaotic episode, but I hope you all enjoyed it.
(Today was a special episode, so if you honestly couldn't keep up, please don't quit BoonBoom. BoonBoomger will return to the old style from next week onwards, that's for sure.)

Baseball Manga
If you're someone who didn't understand but still wanted to enjoy it, try searching for the manga "Gyakkyou Nine" by Kazuhiko Shimamoto. If you read it almost everything will be explained. If the whole series is too much, just up to volume 4 might be enough. The author of a baseball manga was the one who designed the monsters, so the seams on the Grove Kurumaa were obviously perfect.

Jou got hit directly by the ball in the face! The fact that we saw Jou being blown away from four different directions was a testament to Director Kato's attention to detail, having studied the baseball manga in question.

Image
Now Jou needed to make a choice.
It's like choosing between "baseball" and "an irreplaceable girl",
It's like deciding whether to "go forward" or "run away,"
It's a very difficult and courageous choice!
(Everyone, please read "Gyakkyo Nine"!!!)...

"Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger!"
Needless to say, the six of them laughed when they dubbed this rollcall scene.

Just as BoomRed and BoomBlack walked towards the field, Sakakiba (Character from the manga)... No, I mean, Shirabe-san uttered another quote.
"Slow and steady wins the race!"
That's right. Instead of rushing to the major leagues straight away, first do well in Japan! This is not a story about a certain player's path to his dreams.
This was just purely Shirabe's advice to the two of them.

Stadium Announcer
Now, did you baseball fans recognized the in-stadium announcement voice? We asked the former announcer of the Zozo Marine Stadium, Taniho Emi-san, to do the announcements!

Taniho-san is a legendary announcer who retired last year after being an announcer for 33 years, without ever being late or missing an event. She was known for drawing out the end of her sentences, and baseball fans will recognize her voice as soon as they hear it. When I heard her lines during the dubbing, I got goosebumps and thought, "Wow, she's the real deal...!" (And she is the real deal!)

I knew she has a lot of fans, but on the day of the dubbing, even the security guard at Toei Studios was surprised. He recognized her and said, "That's Taniho-san, isn't it?!" It really brought home to me just how popular Taniho-san is. She is a very cheerful and gentle person, it's very pleasant working with her.

Others
During the filming of this episode, Saito-san, who plays Jou, celebrated his 20th birthday!!
We are finally able to show you the wonderful photo of him in his uniform, which we had been hiding because it would have been a spoiler.
Congratulations Saito-san!

======

======

Unironically loved this episode. It's pure Sentai camp at its finest. Great gags, especially with the villains. Canonborg threatening to remodel everyone at the drop of a hat was great. More of this please.

Some cultural notes: it's currently almost the season (starts tomorrow) for the annual Koshien high school baseball tournament. When I say this is the stuff manga is made of, I'm not joking, it is the highlight of players' high school careers and recruiters are all over it. National coverage as well as live broadcasts of every single match. So it's the perfect time for a baseball-themed episode!

A klaxon sounds at the beginning and end of every match. The losing team will put some of the dirt from the grounds into bags and take them home. They're usually crying their eyes out while cameras get pushed into their faces.

I meant to mention a few episodes ago, but when Leon/Robo 119 is onscreen, you often hear a clanging noise in addition to the siren. This clanging noise is used by fire trucks in Japan to signal that it's an actual active fire they're going to, so get the fuck out of the way. Regular rescue activities not involving fire they only use the siren.

Goddammit, I had a giant smile on my face this whole episode. This show isn't afraid to be campy, and I love it to death for that

That was probably the least interesting episode yet for me, a British non-sports fan.

Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.

It was interesting that they had the correct scores from the episode plot shown in the miniature field set, and really the fact that they built that set at all

But GOD that set looked awful... the differences from the real thing were sticking out too much
