given that he and Sachika both get segments in the OP right after Shouma's where it shows Shouma singing while candies have footage of him in them, followed by a closeup where the candies now have footage of him in Gavv form, and both of their segments also show them in the candies, but their closeups are conspicuously empty in the candies, calling now that the OP just spoiled that they're both going to be Riders.

meet the Stomack siblings. each of their names is the word "tongue" in a different language. first we see Lango (Esperanto), then Glotta (Greek), Nyelv (Hungarian), and lastly the twins, Siita and Jiip (based on Shita (Japanese) and Jeebh (Hindi) respectively).

simple enough. Siita's the girl. her hair is white/black and she wears traditionally masculine clothing. Jiip's the boy. his hair is black/white and he wears a dress.

I've heard tell of Toei releasing a spinoff thing online as early as last week where Gavv hangs out with fruits and vegetables, which just screams to me "we're doing damage control immediately, you cannot blame any future cavities on us!"

I like it. it's a cool premise, and I just love that the hilt is literally a bag of chips being squeezed so hard they pop out to make the blade.

are we sure she was telling him not to eat human snacks? given that episode 1 starts with Shouma falling to Earth and calling it the world his mom's from, presumably that means he's never been to Earth before, which means his flashback is still in Granuto world. in that case, since this episode seems to be showing us that captured people are used to make those evil cube candies, I'm guessing his mom was telling him not to eat those, since they're made of people, and it seems like a pretty solid guess that she's human and he's half human?

when Sachika asks Shouma his name, for half a second he's saying Shouma S- before correcting to Inoue Shouma. my guess is that Inoue is his mom's last name, but he was about to introduce himself as Shouma Stomack, and is at least the half-sibling of the 5 enemies we saw earlier, assuming they're all fully granuto. in which case his mom saying "don't eat our candies" might've meant "don't eat the candies made by our family"?

in the opening we see his name as 'Shoma' in the background. Also, in the flashback with his mom, she mentioned potato chips as snacks, with the term 'okashi' as she says it. The ones doing the hard subbed back in the first episode really need to make a version 2 to fix it along with the CM.

Oh, they're all made only for the sake of the show, not anything you can actually buy. BUT they are all recognizable parodies? homages? to stuff you can buy in the store (with the exception of Poppin' Gummy because they're selling that themselves)

I guess, but that would mean mom identifies with the Stomach family, which I feel like she wouldn't, even if she was in love with a stomach family member. Your explanation makes more sense, but it just feels like if mom says "our snacks" she would mean her snacks as a human. Rewatching the scene doesn't really clear up the ambiguity since nothing before or after the scene really connect to the flashback

Huh. Sort of a mixed bag of chips--for such an early episode we have unexpectedly annoying moments and considerably impactful ones. Last ep I mentioned Shouma's enthusiasm for candy was doing a good job not falling into what could be an annoying role. I hadn't expected that to wear out this early. On the other hand, I hadn't expected him to offer to spare a second monster, which works both as a character moment and as a reminder of MotWs as individuals, which had been a motif from the very first show. I'm hoping we get more of that--and, better yet, having a monster that takes the offer. What would that look like?

Whoever edited the apartment unpacking scene needs a raise. Poorly done chaotic cuts can be a jarring slog, but when it's done that way it's just gold.
