Just who are the writers for Boonboomger? I'm lookig at these names and don't recognize any of them. It certainly feels like a newb writer training ground since we have Mira's best friend who appears for the first time, and they don't really do anything to endear either characters or have any situations that show us they're friends. They just look atthe camera and go "yeah, we're best friends since middle school". It's extremely amateur storytelling

It's such a cop out. That's the power of a preview. I'd bet the whole fandom got deceived by that. The double pink was only from Patrol Car 2's ability of splitting into two guns.

Mira is too perfect. She's always happy, enthusiastic, cheerful and never worried about anything. It's nice to have a friend like this around, but as a character there wasn't much room for growth. It once again ended up with the people around her learning a lesson in her focus episode.

Love that Taiya saved Mira's curry when she emptied her bag on the table.

When Aki tried the transform and failed, I thought the Changer has security to stop others using it. Turns out she just didn't roll the tire at the bottom.

The Boon Pink(s) were holding the sword right way up this time.

Toei let Mira drive that expensive car?? Did she really drive it or was that a staff member?

This episode writer's first work as a script writer was the Brave series Exkaiser and Sun Fighbird. Damn I'm old.

Mori Hinami
Today's main guest is Mira's best friend from middle school, Nogi Aki. She was played by the well-known Mori Hinami-san! She played Flint Goldtsuiker in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.

She was cast at the request of Director Watanabe. It has been a while since she last did a toku show, but she made a triumphant return as a representative of the general public, a stark departure from Flint.

Super Sentai is a show with relatively low turnover in staff, so many of the staff who worked with Mori-san and Zenkaiger remain on Boonboomger. For a show like this, it's customary for there to be a buzz when an alumni make a triumphant return, but we may never see anyone as beloved on the set as Mori-san. She gave off a unique aura as soon as she entered the costume fitting room, and the mood among the staff relaxed instantly.

A staff member called out, "Welcome back Hinami!"
To which Mori replied with a smile, "I'm back!"
And just from that sight I could tell that Zenkaiger must have been a great set to work in.

- The secret of the dance: When Mira introduced Aki, Aki was shown dancing on stage in the play. Did you recognize the dance she was dancing at that time? That's right, it was Twokaizer's transformation dance from her brother Zocks Goldtsuiker.

- The secret of her clothes: Aki changed from a white shirt and jeans into pinkish clothes before heading towards the Gurumaa. Director Watanabe said because it was a big challenge, she dressed in the pink color similar to Mira, who she admired to get herself pumped up. He also commented playfully by saying, "Let's add a flint-like touch too." The color scheme and the frills are definitely flint-like, weren't they? And the hair accessory she wore was actually a prop that Flint used as the character. This was another wonderful experience that was only possible because the staff remained the same with both shows!

- The secret of her name: Finally, a little tidbit. The name "Nogi Aki" was a play on the name of a character in a certain anime that Tomioka-sensei wrote the script for. Does anyone know which one?


Toys'R'Us


The people watching the Boonboomgers doing their best again against the monsters. Hmm, I feel like I've seen that male store manager before...or maybe I'm just imagining things...?
Wait. it's definitely this person!! It's Kijino's manager Yamada from Avatarou Sentai DonBrothers! Taki Kohtaro-san also made a triumphant return to Sunday morning shows!

That's right, we visited Toys'R'Us for this location shoot! No matter how old you are, you still get excited when you go into Toys'R'Us. It's like, it'll naturally brings back the excitement of your childhood! Thank you, Toys'R'Us ♪


The road to dreams has no navigation
Aki confessed to Mira that she was giving up her long-time dream of becoming an actor. Mira was quite shocked, as she has been supporting Aki by going to see her plays, but she accepted it as long as it's Aki's holding the steering wheel.

Then Jou and Taiya appeared. This was Tomioka-sensei's writing preference. He depicted how handsome men gather around Aki's best friend, one after another, as Aki's dream was shattered. Frustration built up within Aki as she was gradually showed the gap between her and Mira. Aki realized that she hadn't returned the changer that she had been keeping for Mira, but in a moment of impulse she hesitated to return it.

I don't know how well these complex emotional changes will be conveyed to younger viewers, but it's likely that many children will experience these emotions in the future... Of course, Mira hadn't done anything wrong, and it's also not hard to understand Aki's feelings. All humans have jealousy and envy, sometimes especially because that person is your best friend.

Mira called Aki, but Aki didn't answer. In this scene where Aki was hesitating, the railroad crossings and flashing lights in the background skillfully portray Aki's unstable feelings. Director Watanabe has always said, "Acting is about emotion," and he shoots scenes that was almost like a movie.

- Aki confessed that she wanted to be the star as well, and that she was jealous of Mira because everyone relied on her. Mira replied that rather than being relied on, she was just going with the flow.
- Aki belittled herself for only being able to play supporting roles in the theater. But Mira told Aki that she'd always admired her. Mira'd always thought Aki was so cool, so true to her dreams.

The grass is always greener on the other side, or rather, the grass is always pinker on the other side. They saw their own shortcomings in their best friend, and they respected each other. In the end, Aki decleared that she felt like she'll be more powerful if after taking a detour and seeing a different view. No matter how many years it takes, she'll definitely be on the stage!

I remember the staff meeting got heated about what choice Aki would make in the end for this story. Is it bad to give up on your dreams? Isn't giving up and looking for the next dream also a part of life? That's what we talked about. We likened it to driving, and we agreed that "You just change the destination, but you're still holding the wheel. You can change the route and destination, but driving (life) is fun. In other words, there is no right way to pursue your dreams.

And this time, Aki chose to take a detour, gain more experience, and try again. It's like getting off the highway and taking a detour on the back roads. The older you get, the more you understand reality and realize how difficult it is to make your dreams come true, but the protagonist isn't just the one who makes them come true.

今回のメインゲストはミラの中学からの親友、野木秋。
演じてくださったのは皆さんご存知の森日菜美さん！
『機界戦隊ゼンカイジャー』では
フリント・ゴールドツイカーを演じていましたね！

今回は渡辺監督たっての希望でキャスティング。
久々の特撮ですが今回はフリントとは打って変わって
一般人代表のような役での凱旋でした。

スーパー戦隊はスタッフの入れ替わりが比較的少ない番組なので、
森さんとゼンカイジャーを作り上げたスタッフもブンブンジャーに大勢残っています。
そんな作品ですから、
OB・OGが凱旋すると一盛り上がりするのは定番なのですが、森さんほど現場から愛されている方は見たことがないかもしれません。
衣裳合わせ室に入ってくるなり独特のオーラを発し、
スタッフ陣の雰囲気が一気に緩んだのはかなり衝撃的でした。

スタッフが「ひなみんおかえり〜」と声をかけ、
森さんはそれに対して「ただいま〜」とニコニコ返していて、
その光景だけで(ゼンカイジャーって良い現場だったんだろうな)と察することができました。

◯ダンスの秘密
劇中でミラが秋を紹介する時に秋が舞台で踊っている様子が映ります。
その時に踊っていたダンス、どこかで見覚えありませんでしたか？
そうです、ツーカイなアニキの変身ダンスです(変身ダンス？？)。

◯チェンジの秘密
その際、白シャツにデニムからピンクっぽい洋服に着替え家を出ました。
渡辺監督は「大勝負だから憧れのミラに似た“ピンク色”に身を包んで気合いを入れた」としつつ「フリントみを足しましょうか」と遊び心のスパイスを。
カラーリング構成やヒラヒラの感じ、確かにフリントみありますよね〜。
そしてこの時の髪飾りはなんとフリント役で実際に使っていた小道具を使用しています。
これまたスタッフが変わらないからこそできる遊び、素晴らしい！！

◯名前の秘密
最後に小さな小ネタ。
野木秋という名前は、冨岡先生が脚本を担当された某アニメのキャラクター名をもじってつけられました。誰かわかった人、いますかね？？

今日も苦魔獣相手にブンブンジャーは大活躍です。
あれれ、なんか男性店長さん見たことあるな…気のせいか…？

『暴太郎戦隊ドンブラザーズ』の山田部長です。
滝さんもニチアサに凱旋してくださいました！

そうそう、こちらのロケでトイザらスさんにお邪魔しました！！
何歳になってもトイザらスさんに入るとテンション上がってしまいますよね。
なんか、こう、幼児期の興奮が自然と蘇ると言いますか！

夢への道、ナビなし
秋は長年追い続けた役者の夢を諦めることをミラに告白します。
ミラは秋の出る舞台を観に行ったりと応援していただけにかなりのショック。

でもそれが秋のハンドルならと、受け入れますが…。

そこに現れたのは錠と大也。

これは冨岡先生のこだわりで、
夢破れた秋の前で
親友の周りに続々とイケメンが集まる様を描きました。
ジワジワと差を見せつけることで秋の中に溜まっていくフラストレーション。

そこで預かっていたチェンジャーを返していないことに気が付きますが、
出来心でつい返すのを躊躇ってしまいます。

この複雑な心情変化、お子様の視聴者にどれだけ伝わるかわかりませんが、
多くの子がこの先の人生で味わうことになるのかもしれませんね…。
もちろんミラは悪いことをしていませんし、
秋の気持ちが理解できないでもありません。
人間誰しもが持つ嫉妬や羨望。
その相手が親友だと心にくるものがあるのではと容易に想像できます。

ミラはすぐに電話をしますが秋が電話に出ることはなく…。
こちらの揺れる秋のシーンでも
踏切やライトの点滅で、
秋の不安定な心情が巧く演出されています。
渡辺監督は常々「芝居は感情なんですよ」と仰っており、
まるで映画のようなシーンを撮ってくださいました。

私だって主役になりたかった、
みんなに頼られるミラが羨ましかった、と告白する秋。
対するミラは頼られると言うより流されていただけだと返しますが、
秋は劇団でも脇役しかやれない自身を卑下します。
しかしミラはそんな秋に
「あたし、秋のことずっと憧れてた」「ずっと夢に真っ直ぐで、かっこいいと思ってた」
隣の芝生は青い、もとい隣の芝生はピンクい。
親友の中に自分の足りない部分を見て
お互いに尊敬していたのでした。

すると秋は「回り道して違う景色見たら私パワーアップできる気がする、また夢にチャレンジする！何年かかっても絶対あの舞台に立つ！」と新たな宣言を。

今回のお話、秋が最後に取る選択をどうするかで
打ち合わせが白熱したのを覚えています。

夢を諦めるのは悪いことか？
諦めて次の夢を探すのもまた人生ではないか？
そんな話になりました。

我々はそれを運転になぞらえて
「目的地を変えるだけでハンドルは握ったままだよね」
「ルートも行き先も変えてもドライブ(人生)は楽しいよね」とまとまりました。
つまり夢の追い方に正解はないということ。
そして今回の秋は回り道をして経験値を増やして再挑戦するという道を選びました。
高速を降りて下道で寄り道しながら行くみたいなもんでしょうか。

大人になればなるほど現実を知り夢を叶えることの難しさを実感しますが、
別に全て叶えるだけが主人公じゃない。
主役の隣もまた主役、と久慈Pが言っていたのを残しておきます。。。

we never see her in the driver's seat driving, so I'm pretty sure she got swapped out with a professional driver

That was my thought too.

But the friend I'm watching with has been doing a rewatch of the series from the beginning, and she pointed out that in their debut, both the PatCars had the ability to create virtual duplicates of themselves. Which reminded me of the Highway chase scene from an early episode with YalCar running into a fleet of PatCars acting as a rolling barricade.

So while the guys used the defined offensive powers of the PatCars (spikes and guns), this was another case of Mira thinking differently and using the tools available to her in a different way that works for her.


And while "Mira episodes" do tend to be less about her specifically, there's been that moment in the fight scenes therein where Mira says she wants to solo the MOTW. And the guys all stand back and let her, because she can and does.

Just checked eps 5, yeah they use the virtual trap to create uhhhh clones of the patrol cars. I guess a patrol car is the closest thing you'd get to a ninja, so I can see why they'd associate cloning techniques to that. But I thought the clones were illusions, hence the virtual part of it. Clone Mira is definitely there doing damage lol

And yeah, the Mira fight scenes are cool and good, but I don't know if that excuses the terrible story telling up to that point

I guess a patrol car is the closest thing you'd get to a ninja, so I can see why they'd associate cloning techniques to that. But I thought the clones were illusions, hence the virtual part of it. Clone Mira is definitely there doing damage lol

Well, Yalcar dodged the virtual trap, so we don't know if those clone cars would have inflicted damage or not. I also thought they were illusions at the time, but since Akira said that the BoonBoomgers also seem to have the power of IMAGINATION!, who knows how it works anymore. Rule of Cool, I guess.

And I'm not excusing the dodgy writing over cool solo fights for Pink in Mira episodes. I just appreciate that they happen, and are textually because all the guys are confident in Mira and her ability to actually solo a fight when she wants to. That makes 3 members of the team that can solo if/when necessary; Mira, Taiya, and Sakito.

I did some looking up myself and noticed he did all of Satoshi run of Pokemon episodes (currently not involved with the current Pokemon anime series). It makes me think he developed Boondorio specifically with Matsumoto Rica voicing the character.

I recently begun watching Inazuma Eleven and definitely see aspects of that show in Boonboomger with the ISA conspiracy.

I really want a line from BoomBlue saying to Mira "You finally use the equipment right for once." in reference to her properly holding the sword with the handle not the blade.
