Well, there goes my theory that Hanto and Gavv are brothers
Oh interesting, looks like in the past they drained the humans
Oh, I feel like we've seen people pushed into the green water in Shouma's flashbacks before
Again, very brave of Komura to actually have characters that have real feelings about what's going on around them. That's why it's important to have good writing, but also actors that can pull off these emotional scenes
Hanto, surely you suspect Suga of creating Bitter Shouma right?
I saw the screenshot of Sachika with the Gochizo (stupid toei spoilers). So I've been looking forward to this scene for a few days now
Did they do something different with Sachika's hair?
Speaking of HappyPare, I was surprised to find out that Sachika's theme song is Happy Parade. That's what I thought it was short for, but I saw Pare translated as Palette and that felt like that made sense with how colorful her building is
Gasp. Hanto has other friends? His buddy looks like knock-off Banjou
Take bets now, how many more colored Shouma clothes will he get before the series ends?
lol at the suit actor wearing the Dente mask but not the body suit
I can't place his name, but I'm almost certain the driver in the flipped car is a stunt actor
Guess I didn't guess that there'd be more than one clone
You know it's a good episode if Toei gets out the car stunts
Good balance between main story progression, conversations, while also keeping things grounded by focusing on characters and their relationships to each other. Love that Sachika is in on the loop now. Dente's dropping lore bombs while Shouma is revealing secrets about Hanto's mom. Another excellent episode

Yes! Yes! Hanto knows that Shouma isn't to blame but he still feels angry! Warring heart and brain! More than one single emotion! Giving people space to work through what they're dealing with! God I love this show!
Okay so the Hanto/Shouma brothers thing didn't pan out but that's okay. Dente as the unwitting inventor makes more sense than the evil genius schtick. I always thought it was odd someone so bumblingly lovable(?) would create something so clearly awful.

Re: KR Gavv 23
Dente being tricked into making Dark Candy really is the only way to clear the character's good name and right some aspects of the backstory. I still feel like Dente has a dark side that he's hiding from Shouma, but we'll see if that pans out
Poor Hanto. He had just only reaccepted Shouma and now he learns that Shouma might have unwittingly led to his mother's death
Just to clarify some things, Hanto definitely told Sachika to call Shouma for him right? I guess Hanto's still not ready to face Shouma. It's pretty funny to see Sachika awkwardly lie to cover for him. What do we think is going on with Hanto's buddy?

I assume I'm not the only one who has been conditioned to assume Hanto would get mad at Shoma anyway? It's so refreshing having characters with common sense.Lunagel wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 6:52 pm Yes! Yes! Hanto knows that Shouma isn't to blame but he still feels angry! Warring heart and brain! so I guess Hanto will do his own thing for now till we find out Suga''s responsible for Bitter Gavv, seriously he even says the new chocolate power ups are bitter, put 2 and 2 together Hanto, its not very subtle. Wonder how many of the bitter gavv there's actually are.
Sachika accepts Shoma for who he is, none of that your a monster so I cant trust you nonsense from her, I hope she gets more to do now.

Re: KR Gavv 23
Let's give Sachika an award for being like one of the self-adjusted real people in a fictional show? I wonder where Komura is pulling from for this character. I'm trying to think of if we have anyone so anti-drama in her past works

At the same time though, Sachika feels kind of unimportant. As Rider girls go, she may as well not even be there.takenoko wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 8:27 am Let's give Sachika an award for being like one of the self-adjusted real people in a fictional show? Re: KR Gavv 23
I disagree. She definitely has a more passive role than a lot of female characters in Rider, but she's Shouma and Hanto's moral support/guidance and it's her social media skills that kept the red scarf woman from claiming more victims, not to mention doing damage control for clone!Shouma. Maybe she doesn't fight like Rinne, but she's certainly more important to the narrative than Renge.HowlingSnail wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 9:02 amAt the same time though, Sachika feels kind of unimportant. Re: KR Gavv 23
Yeah, she does a lot of emotional support for both Shouma and Hanto, in addition to her "I got a hot tip on where the monsters are" actual support. But now that she's in on the know, I'm hoping she's a little more roped into the story. There's definitely been a lot worse Rider girls that don't even do that much. Sachika does a lot of support/behind the scene stuff, it'd honestly be hard to imagine this show without her character in itHowlingSnail wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 9:02 amAt the same time though, Sachika feels kind of unimportant. Re: KR Gavv 23
Lore drop episode.
Like everyone already said, real emotions in characters are refreshing to watch.
That flashback scene was brutal. They melted down a human right there! The melting reminded me of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which also traumatized me as a kid. No wonder Shouma suppressed that memory.
So that wolf Granuto who kidnapped Hanto's mom was probably just some random lackey and not an important character?
Sachika is awesome as usual. GOAT support character. Shouma would have fall apart long ago with her.
She's already talking to and understanding them. Now that she can interact with the Gochizos, it'll create many adorable scenes.
"Can I watch you give birth?" Now that's awkward...
Dente is way too cheerful and way too willing to tell anyone he met he created the Dark Candy. He's either masking his guilt or very oblivious.
Vram slowly learning to interact with humans is hilarious and on point.

Shouma's lost memories
Perhaps Shouma's own defense instinct was activated due to his trauma, and his memories of that time were sealed away.
When you're being pushed into water, I think it would be scary when you're being told not to resist and to open your eyes underwater. But Wagatsuma Miwako-san, who played Hanto's mother, was very positive. She said, "I'm fine because I know how to swin!!" (Eh?! That's not what we're worried about...) She created a scene with a huge impact where she landed on the water in full force.
I-I'm going to suppress my memory too...
Her attempted escape may have been one of the incidents that accelerated the development of Stomach's technologies, such as the Human Press and the Mimic Deviser.
Bitter Gavv
We can't forget about the poor guy who was trying to move his car but was interrupted by Dark Shouma. Dark Shouma flipped him over and spun him around with superhuman strength! He's actually played by Kaji Kotaro-san, the suit actor for Valen. Dark Shouma was kind enough to attack him in front of the cafe where Hanto was working (lol)
A large-scale shoot with him suspended by a crane.

Confectionery Past
Ząb was a talented businessman and a charismatic man. He's voiced by Shimada Bin-san.
Gavv's suit actor, Nawata Yuuya-san, is also the suit actor for Shouma's father Bouche, and now his grandfather Ząb as well. The bloodline is strong here (lol)!

That cold open alone makes this a 5-star episode. I almost cried lol

I was gonna list all the series I've watched but there's a 255 character limit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh well.

It's funny how a collective memory works. Everyone remembers that shoe, even though his part was so small
>So that wolf Granuto who kidnapped Hanto's mom was probably just some random lackey and not an important character?
I'm sure we'll come across him at some point
>Perhaps Shouma's own defense instinct was activated due to his trauma, and his memories of that time were sealed away.
funny how falling in water or almost falling in it is usually what triggers the amnesia in these shows...

I wonder what they used to make the water so green
>Her attempted escape may have been one of the incidents that accelerated the development of Stomach's technologies, such as the Human Press and the Mimic Deviser.
Lango saying that line did come off a bit expository. I don't know if there were a more subtle way to do it though

love a suit actor sighting. Kaji is one of the newer guys so I'm not as used to recognizing him as some of the older hands
>Ząb was a talented businessman and a charismatic man. He's voiced by Shimada Bin-san.
oh right, meant to look him up
>Gavv's suit actor, Nawata Yuuya-san, is also the suit actor for Shouma's father Bouche, and now his grandfather Ząb as well. The bloodline is strong here (lol)!
that's pretty funny. the company really keeps it in the family
thanks again for the translation on the notes. it's always fun to learn about the behind the scenes stuff
