Feel like it's distracting for GozyuUnicorn to use a Sentai Ring and change into a person of a totally different stature

What? Why is her one clue that the person had grey eyes? Did she see the person's eyes? I mean, I think it'd be hilarious if blue was the kidnapper. We know virtually nothing about blue and yellow, so they could have any past they wanted. Revealing he had grey eyes without making him a more established character is kinda weird

That was an alright episode, not as good as the last one. Despite the more serious stakes of Sumino's story, her character arc went from "I want revenge" to "I want to save my sister then have revenge". Pretty silly compared to the arc Eagle went through.

And Inoue's writing is still a bit weightless. The evidence getting burned up, are we supposed to believe it was a fake? If Sumino thought it was real, then she just lost out on a real lead on saving her sister. But by skipping over that reaction, it basically doesn't give that moment stakes for her or the viewer, she just moves past it. That's why I sort of worry about Inoue being a bit amateurish for taking on a yearlong story

There was last year, no actual shortage now but prices are 2-3 times what they were 2 years ago

It's in media res right now, which is fine when used correctly. Unfortunately it seems that the Inoues are allergic to explaining their story/world. Plus, after all that backstory (HAH!) it seems like everyone's role is just going to be "guy who hangs out at coffee shop and occasionally fights monsters"

Also, I'm guessing this kid is getting magically frozen in time or something otherwise they're probably going to have to hire another actress to play the older version, and I can't see Toei shelling the money for that

We have kid, I don't know kid's ages so let's say she's 8-10. Her sister is in high school, maybe she's 18 in that flashback? Let's say she fast tracks getting on the police force and is 20 when her sister gets kidnapped. So in modern times, we can assume the kid is at least 18 and Sumino herself is at least 28, maybe older, but played by a literal teenager because Hollywood magic lol. I guess that's one way this could break down

Okay so you have to be 18 to attend police school, 10 months training, 3 months workplace training, 3 months training in your first post, 5 months probation. So at least 2 years to be a full police officer. Howeverrrr it's possible she never made full officer and got kicked out during training? That would shorten the timeline by about a year.

oh, hey, I actually managed to recognize what sentai the enemy Aii is referencing this time.

saw the name had "Maji" and immediately started paying closer attention, and then noticed the symbol for him is the Magiranger emblem over what I assume is meant to represent Mandora Boy being removed from a pot.

Just to answer my own question, it looks like the buckle is the group symbol. But the shoulders and the weapons will have unique symbols. Props to the design guy who needs to make a new one for each Sentai reference

To continue with the Magi theme, the plant name for this mecha is the Mandrake and the broom is the Mandrake Broom, flying brooms, harry potter, rowling is a terf, yadda yadda

yeah, each one's been a reference, like the "Five Brothers" being references to Fiveman and GoGoV, or the guy from episode 2 who was friends with Firecandle being a reference to Gorenger.

it's always fun to try and work out the way references are done for names and designs and stuff like this, like working out some of the finer references with the Hitotsuki in DonBros, where you know they're based on past sentai, but some elements are more obscure than others.

That's fascinating because I really thought Kinjirou was a well done character. Meanwhile, I really wanted to like Sumino and thought her premise was good, but thought none of the stuff she did in this episode was charming. She put a bandage on a kid's knee, otherwise she was pretty terrible to everyone around her imo

Episode 5 is worst ep so far. The family story of Green is better than a boring kidnap story with bad acting of Black. Can’t stand how Akiko can write worst ep like this and how the Black actress can have bad acting skill like Rinne in Gotchard.

This was probably the second weakest episode so far behind episode 3, but there's some stuff of interest here.

Pros
- GozyuBlack being an esper is fun.
- The scene about GozyuBlue's eyes previously being grey mere seconds after we're told the person who kidnapped the little sister's were grey made me belly laugh. The daughter has clearly learned all the worst lessons from her father.
- GozyuBlack gaining a foot in height when transforming from her base form to RyusoulRed for her shit street fighter combo was hilarious.

Cons
- How old is this character supposed to be? cause that timeline don't add up chief.
- having this teenager with no idea how to use feminine wiles being told to use them is super awkward and uncomfortable to watch.
- an actual piece of evidence in the case to find her sister is burned in front of her and it just kinda... gets no-sold? like it's not taken seriously at all. this kind of scene should have come way later when this character is established and it should have been given weight, or it should have been stated it's fake, otherwise it makes her seem like an absolute sociopath. (which she still might be, but that hasn't been established yet)
