Wow, that was an emotional roller coaster, but damn was that satisfying with a lot of good pay offs. Weirdly, I think we've solved all of Hanto's early mysteries and conflicts, as well as Shouma's so we're free to move into the next chapter without any lingering plotlines. Love this series!

I guess the implication is that Suga's child died, so he became obsessed with creating the ultimate life form to ?bring back his child? I'm fine with never knowing, it's just actually subtle story telling. The viewer can put the dots together, and tahnk you Komura for trusting the viewer to do so

Hanto's self-destructive rage is relatable on a personal level. Putting this under a spoiler in case you want to skip over my trauma:

When I was 7 my brother died from protein s deficiency, but the week before, I ended up breaking his nose after a disagreement over who gets to watch TV, so I believed that his death was my fault for the longest, and I lived just like Hanto did. I lashed out, taking any beating that came my way because I had no one to blame. I needed physical pain to rationalize the emotional turmoil I was going through.

so I get why Hanto did what he did in the beginning. Keeping that emotional burden, lashing out at anyone who will fight back, just so that hurt below the skin can be realized on your skin, constantly plagued by the words 'if only I...' sure, it isn't healthy, but it's all that you got.

Again, kudo's to the writing staff for the dialogue between these two before Suga showed up. Everything said between them feels human, down to Shouma's 'It wasn't you fault speech.'

ChocoFrappe Valen is sweet to look at, and the fight after was fantastic too. The gochizo being able to speak fluently got a giggle out of me, considering they've had their own language and having them trash talk was great.

Ok, while Suga being a father wasn't on my bingo list for this character, I will wholeheartedly say that it does not give him a pass for all the crimes and lives he's taken. As a post I saw on social media said, "You're feelings are valid, you actions are not."

Trauma bonded brothers for life! Seriously, that piggy back convo was cutie, and Hanto feeding Shouma is definitely sparking some new fanfics on japan's version of AO3 (Whatever that is.)

Nyelv is back to his old scheming ways again. Heaven only knows how this is going to play out, but I'm strapped in to see this series through to the end.

Okay, I did not see Jeebh getting married as a plot point. Guess I can throw my theory about him finding some creepy way to keep his sister alive is out the window.

Obligatory "Sachika is best woman," comment before I end this post. Her and Lakia sprucing up Dente's cave is just...fitting.

I think Suga being a father is interesting in that it gives him some nuance and tragedy. Obviously it doesn't excuse all his evil deeds, but it's nice that he's a character with some texture and complication and not just "stereotypical mad scientist #2". Despite everything he's done, I still feel kind of bad when he dies at the end, which is great writing. /me claps like a walrus

Well said. That basically sums up how I feel about Suga as a character, and the momentary pause he did right before Valen deliver the final blow did show that, to some extent, he did cared for Hanto. In the end, Suga died with some semblance of humanity left in him. This is really good writing, and kudos to the actors and the team behind the scenes for pulling off such an amazing, emotional episode.

I'm now ready for the next chapter of Gavv.

Suga finally gets his comeuppance, his past being left up to the viewer to piece together is a nice touch.
Do we really think he's dead though or is Nyelv gonna "upgrade" him.
The bromance is back lol these two might be the most mature, human characters I've seen in toku in a long time.

I'd give a 10 out of 5 if I can. The writing is just so good. All the characters acted like real people who had actual feelings, all the plot points were not forgotten and were resolved naturally. MVP Hino Yusuke (Hanto) absolutely nailed it. He captured the helplessness, frustration and conflict so well.

Rakia is so efficient. Mind on the job no-nonsense.

The bond that chocolate frappés create
Shouma and Hanto had a heart-to-heart talk for the first time in a while. This was an important scene where the two shared their feelings. The location was carefully chosen (The dazzling reflection of the water is reminiscent of the lyrics of the OP!). Up until now, Hanto has mostly been strong-willed, but this was an impressive scene where he showed his weakness for the first time and Shouma cheered him up.

The chocolate frappe used in this scene was a Chocolixir provided by GODIVA! Komura Junko-san (writer) and the director tried GODIVA's Chocolixir at a store in advance and then came up with Shouma's impressions. We had many detailed meetings with GODIVA to make preparations before the filming.
Considering it was hot outside, the cast members on set also enjoy it very much!



The Mad Doctor's Secret Side
In the previous episode 27, Asanuma-san's mysterious acting left a strong impression on the viewers and it became a hot topic. We got to see a lot of Suga-style acting from Asanuma-san this time around! An amazing transformation sequence in which he performed many actions in a row while saying his lines! Even the way he said "Henshin" was casual, a typical of Suga reaction.
Throw away the wand → Take off the glasses → Take out the Gochizo → Magnum Bite → Finger Snap → Transform

A hidden room in the Suga's laboratory was shown along with Brahms' classic music. The elements of a child's room, which is out of place in a facility where BitterGavv were cultivated, create a rather out of place and eerie atmosphere.

How does the appearance of this room relate to Suga's reason for insisting on creating the strongest lifeform? Before filming began, Asanuma-sam was given a set of notes regarding the settings of Suga's character. The notes were written by written by Writer Komura-san. The contents of the notes cannot be revealed, but Asanuma-san based his acting on them.



New belt
When you think of a belt, you think of Kamen Riders, and when you think of Kamen Riders, you think of motorcycles! Hanto, who has always traveled by bicycle, is finally making his motorcycle debut. Hino-kun was also excited to try out the long-awaited towing motorcycle scene!



New-born Frappé Custom
We practiced the action scenes beforehand under the guidance of Action Director Fujita. Chinen and Hino worked hard on the action scenes where they faced off against Bake without armor. This time, we also asked Kaji Kotaro-san, the suit actor for Valen, to do some of the action scenes as a stunt double. The Hino & Kaji duo are close friends and are close in age lol!



The name of the new Gochizou that Shouma created and gave to Hanto is "Frappéis." It has a twin design that can be separated into the cream part on top and the chocolate shake part on the bottom. And I'm sure you were all surprised...

It... it spoke!?!?!?!
Yes, this Gochizou does talk. The one-eyed one at the top is the older brother, and the stocky one at the bottom is the younger brother. We started out with the idea that they were brothers because there were two of them. With Director Sugihara's idea, the older brother became Aniki who speaks in Kansai dialect, and the younger brother is a bit of a timid brother's boy!

We asked Shimowada Hiroki-san to voice Frappéis. In the voice actor audition, he showed a very distinctive range of voices and skillfully voiced the two brothers. There were no lines during the dubbing, so we had him improvised and played a pair of playful brothers (laughs).

With the new power Gochizou, Kamen Rider Valen transforms into Frappé Custom. He retains Valen's red color, but with a crest designed with the Frappé and gold throughout. It's a gorgeous design. The highlight is the straw stuck in his back! This time too, it's full of cool elements of delicious sweets! Dry ice smoke was used in the transformation shot to create the cool feeling of a freshly made frappe.



Director Sugihara's direction can be seen in the scene of the final blow that took down Bake. The cut-in of Hanto edited in a manga style, Director Sugihara's anime-like direction is really good...! By the way, the final line that Hanto said to Suga, "See you," was devised by the director and Hino at the recording studio. Although Suga was a hated enemy, Hanto still had feelings for Suga, who had granted him his power.



The day of this photoshoot was Asanuma-san's last day! Instead of flowers, he was given a ValenBuster toy! (lol)

チョコフラッペがつなぐ絆
ショウマと絆斗が久しぶりに腹を割って話すシーン。
２人の気持ちを交わす重要な芝居場でロケーションにもこだわって撮影されました。（OPの歌詞を連想させる水の反射の眩しさが良い！）

今までは強気な絆斗が多かったと思いますが、絆斗が初めて弱みを見せてショウマが元気づける印象的なシーンになっていました。

このシーンで使われたチョコフラッペはなんと今回「GODIVA」さんからご提供いただいた「ショコリキサー」！
香村さんや監督には事前に店舗でGODIVAさんのショコリキサーを体験いただき、そのうえでショウマの感想を考案してくださいました。

撮影に至るまでもGODIVAさんと綿密な打ち合わせを重ねて準備を進めました。

まだ暑さの残る時期だったことも相まって、現場でキャストたちもとてもおいしそうに飲んでいました！

マッドな博士の裏の顔

前回２７話で視聴者に強烈な印象を与える怪演が話題となった浅沼さん。
そんな浅沼さんによる酸賀節が今回もたくさん見られました！

杖捨てる→メガネ取る→ゴチゾウ取り出す→ガヴガヴ→指パッチン→変身
セリフを言いながら一連で多くの所作をこなす驚きの変身シークエンス！

「変身」の言い方も酸賀ならではの軽い言い方で、今回もたっぷり酸賀エキスを注入してくれました。

ブラームスのクラシックと共に、映し出された酸賀研究所の隠された別室。
ビターガヴが培養されている施設とは似つかぬ子供部屋の要素がなんとも不釣り合いで不気味な雰囲気を醸し出しています。

酸賀が「最強生物をつくりだす」ことに固執する理由と、この部屋の様相がどのように関係しているのか？
実は撮影に入る前に、香村さんによって書かれた酸賀に関する設定メモが浅沼さんに手渡されています。
そのメモの内容は明かせませんが、浅沼さんは今回そのメモを元にお芝居をつくられています。

ということで、ずっとチャリ移動だった絆斗もついにバイクデビューです。
憧れの牽引バイクシーンに嬉々として日野君も挑戦してくれました！

生まれたてのフラッペカスタム
アクション練習も事前に行いましたが、現場でも藤田AC監督による指導の元、知念君と日野君には生身でベイクに立ち向かうアクションを頑張ってもらいました。
今回は一部ヴァレンのアクターの鍜治さんにも吹き替えでアクションをお願いしています。
年齢近くて仲良しな日野＆鍜治コンビ！笑

ショウマが生み出し、絆斗に授けた新たなゴチゾウの名は「フラッぺいず」。
上のクリーム部分と下のチョコシェイク部分で分割することができるツインズ仕様。

そして、皆さんもきっと驚かれたでしょう…

しゃ、喋った！？！？！？

そう、このゴチゾウ喋るんです

上の一つ目がお兄ちゃんで、下のどっしりしたのが弟という設定です。
２人いるから兄弟というところからスタートしましたが、杉原監督のアイディアもあってお兄ちゃんは関西弁で弟をひっぱるアンちゃん、弟はちょっと弱気なお兄ちゃん子になりました！

フラッペいずの声は下和田ヒロキさんにお願いしています。
フラッペいずの声優オーディションで声のふり幅がとても際立っていて、兄弟２役の声を巧みに演じていただいています。
アフレコではセリフがあるわけではないので、全てアドリブでお茶目な兄弟を演じてもらっています（笑）

そんな新たなゴチゾウの力で変身したのは仮面ライダーヴァレン フラッペカスタム
ヴァレンの赤は引き継ぎ、フラッペいずにデザインされたクレストと全体的に金色が取り入れれていてゴージャスなデザインになっています。
ポイントは背中に刺さったストロー！今回もカッコよさとお菓子のおいしそうな要素が詰まっています！
変身カットにはドライアイスの煙を使って、できたてのフラッペのひんやり感を演出しています。

ベイクを倒す最後の一撃のカットでみられた杉原監督の演出。
劇画風に加工された絆斗のカットイン、杉原監督のこういったアニメ的な演出は本当にうまい…！

ちなみにこの時の絆斗が酸賀に向けた「じゃあな」という最後のセリフは、監督と日野君がアフレコ現場で生み出したセリフ。
憎い相手ではありますが、自分に力を授けた酸賀に込められた思いが詰まっています。

この撮影の日が浅沼さんの最終日！
お花ではなくおもちゃ（ヴァレンバスター）が贈られました（笑）
