Huh, cool trolley car and flowers. The trolley is named lotterY?

Wait, you can just walk up to your enemies and hand them a thing and they'll take it?

What is Sumino wearing?

You can use Sentai Rings to create castles now? This is a parody of Takeshi's castle, I presume?

Am I crazy or didn't we already do the Boukenger homage episode in this series?

I keep forgetting how cool No-One World is

Just now noticing FireCandle has two bowties

Which anime are we in?

Okay, yellow flicking Rikuo made me laugh

What is Tokonatsu up to? Maybe he's the true osekkai no-one

Oh, there's that Inoue wacky humor

Huh, here's the lore. Is Hoeru the younger brother? Who wants to bet that Sumino's sister is in the No-One World group. Wait, so that mysterious woman isn't Hoeru's mom?

What, Hoeru's parents are alive but he hasn't gone back to them?

So Tokonatsu is a cross between Momotarou being a loner weirdo and the squid games guy??

I wonder if there's only one guy who does the voice for the Aiis

Wait, the commander became a giant? Wow, proper uniform for the girl. Tegasword Black sure does look cool

That's a terrible shield, it became full of holes immediately. Whoa, Wolzard's here. Horse girl? I've heard of this anime

Wait, so what was the point of that. The commander was defeated, but clearly isn't dead yet.,,

The neon double finisher on th e black background is legit cool

Huh, do we need to keep track of who has what rings? Feels like that'd be annoying for 50 rings

Will we see Tokonatsu again? I'm betting not

Okay, that's pretty good fan service

I still think the story might not be good, but I felt like I had more fun than I didn't in this episode? Like, lifting Momotarou's sad sack story doesn't totally work for Tokonatsu, since Tokonatsu is the affable, popularity no.1 prime minister, and Momotarou doesn't understand social cues. Like there's genuine pathos with Momotarou that they're kind of borrowing for this series

Blue and yellow are still on my shit list for being the comedy relief. Not because they're not funny (they're not) but because I can't really take blue seriously as a character since they hint he has more stuff going on, yet he keeps getting paired off with yellow to join the "get the fuck out of the way, this is a Hoeru episode guest starring Sumino piloting her mecha"

But it was inoffensive and it was fun enough, and I'm not made of stone. Seeing DaiZyuJin/Megazord wearing a cool G Gundam cape, who can not be moved by that?

Seeing the Tyrannoranger and Daizyujin suits in HD brings back my longing for Toei to get around to an HD remaster for Zyuranger, if only because it would be the first step for HD Power Rangers. So far they've only gotten as far as Dynaman, so maybe in about a decade we can get HD Zyuranger.

It also makes me question even more why Hasbro didn't borrow Toei's Daizyujin suit instead of giving us that awful CGI one in 2023.
Seen:
Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.
Precure: DokiDoki-Go Pri
Metal Heroes: Gavan
Other: Spiderman, Power Rangers

Some further thoughts post translating

-Stop writing Sumino as the haughty woman, the actress can't pull that off and the baby burikko thing at the same time
-Again, I weirdly sympathize with Toknonatsu's loneliness, but this is just lifting it straight from Momotarou from DonBro
-I wish the jokes were better. Are the rangers playing tag and dodge ball working for people? Or the joke about green having wings?
-Let's talk about ranger dynamics real quick. Sumino is better in this episode since she's less annoying. Blue and yellow seem to be on the same shit as always. Green is kind of interesting since he's got the most going on, but doesn't really have any connections to the other rangers. Hoeru is awkward but he's the red so he gets thrust into the spotlight constantly. I wish this guy were a bit more charismatic, but he's doing okay
-I'm getting a little sick of Bouquet being sidelined to fangirl over Rikuo. She's the best character in this series, let her do something
-Tokonatsu putting Hoeru into a wrestling hold got a laugh out of me
-Hoeru's backstory is pretty good. Say... we had a full damn episode all with only him in one. Why wasn't this origin included there instead of doing the damn mystery box thing? His character could have had some depth all this time instead of being whatever the plot requires him to be
-It's dumb and doesn't make sense, but I do like Hoeru and Tokonatsu becoming friends

Rikuo episode next time, let's have some blue backstory!

Surprise Hoeru backstory, no way his brother's dead, he's a future (probably brainwashed) villain.
Kinda of a jerk move not to let his family know he's alive though, so your parents had more kids, doesn't mean they wont be happy to know your alive.

GozyuEagle was vibing to Hoeru and Tokonatsu's henshin music while the other just stood there posing.

It was a little heart-warming when Hoeru freed Tokonatsu from the Ring Battle and then became his friend.

Wait, so the other Ring Warriors can summon their robots too? So everyone has their own private robot but the 5 Gozyugers have to share one?

DaiZyuJin got the drip. More robots should wear capes.

This week's Aii captain is Denjiman. (Source:https://dic.pixiv.net/a/デンジス・パーク)
The name comes from the cry "Denji Spark" that the Denjiman use when transforming. Originally, the character was an unnamed Golden Aii in the script, but Sambongi Daisuke-san, Fire Candle's actor, requested the producer to give him a name.

💍Location planning
Director Watanabe continues to direct episode 6. Surprisingly, the director had already decided on the filming locations for episodes 5 and 6 at the time of the location meeting.

When we asked Director Watanabe, he said, "I proposed the locations after considering the time allocation. At this time of year, daytime scenes can only be shot until 4 p.m., so if there are many locations, the travel time increases and filming becomes hectic, and we have to proceed at a high speed. This can be difficult as it makes it hard to finalize whether something is OK or not."

"However, since the sun sets early, it also has the advantage of making it easier to shoot night scenes. This time in particular, a young Houeru appears in the night forest scene of No-One World, so the filming went go smoothly even considering the time limit for the child actor (until 8 p.m.). As a result, we were able to complete filming of episode 5 and 6 without any problems," the director said with a look of relief.

Image

💍Tegasword
The scene at the beginning where Houeru was watering the vegetable garden on top of the a sitting Tegasword was a scene that Producer Matsuura was very particular about, as he wanted the Tegasword robot to not only fight, but also be used in everyday life and to be able to engage (its transformation power) freely. Nippon Eizo Creative Co.(日本映像クリエイティブ), who was in charge of compositing, adjusted the height of the bank so that it looked like the giant robot was properly sitting. Similarly, the scene in episode 2 where Houeru was using the Tegasword to dig a hole for the treasure hunt was also intended to be used for something other than fighting.

💍Rikuo Alter
Bouquet was head over heels in love with Rikuo! She even made an altar for him. The story behind this altar is that, when you think of Bridal, you think of a perfect circle. So the props maker made the altar using a perfect circle photo frame. If you look closely, you can see that the centre is decorated like an altar - it's amazing! Will this be making frequent appearances from now on?

Image

💍Trial 3: Playing house
During the costume fitting, everyone was laughing as they transformed into their "usual selves." According to the actors, a highlight of the scene was when Rikuo and Ryuugi got totally in characters and got all lovey-dovey when Rikuo feather-touches Ryuugi's chin with his hand! If you missed it, make sure to check it out!

Director Watanabe: "For the playing house part, the challenge was to play house in perpetual summer, so I made it in the style of a Drifters comedy skit. At the play house dinner table, I had the cast members not sit with their backs facing the camera."

💍Behind the scenes stories about character design
We talked them in Episode 2, but we will now take a more in-depth look at the designs of Bouquet and Karendeus (who appear in Episode 3).

Designer: Masato Hisa

Producer Matsuura requested that Bouquet have horns, and since her overall image theme is floral, Hisa-san decided to make the horns into some kind of flower with a slight twist. He decided to make them into the rare Sumatran Arum (Titan Arum), the world's largest flower that blooms only once every seven years.

Image

The Karendeus is designed to look like an upside-down bouquet, with leaf veins on the body. Don't you think it's a wonderful design with a unique mechanical feel?! Armed with a karambit knife decorated with flowers, Hisa-san's sense is both brutal and lovely!

Image

This is Karendeus's weapon. The weapon is designed with plants that are reminiscent of a bouquet. So cool!

Image

💍Behind-the-scenes stories from Nanase Ko-san, Atami Tokonatsu's actor!
The finishing move is "Ichinintousen Positive Shower" (一人桃千・ポジティブシャワー) which uses the Zanglass Sword. It made use of the original attack of the Don Brothers, and arranged as Atami Tokonatsu's special move.

"The most memorable scene was definitely the simultaneous engagement (transformation) with Hoeru.

Did it feel like an additional warrior!? For me, when I think of Super Sentai, I think of Gao Silver. Since I was little, I've always wanted to become an additional warrior. I had heard from Producer Matsuura that he wanted to make the Universe Warriors like additional warriors. So when I was engaging (transforming) I was thinking, "Atami Tokonatsu is an additional warrior!!"

It was a very difficult scene to film, because the transformation poses required me to act all cool, but because the ground was gravel I couldn't turn properly. There were lots of retakes. Sorry for the inconveniences that I caused! (lol) Another memorable scene (?) was after transforming. After Hoeru transformed, he let out a howl and was answered by a "Woof! Woof!" from a dog outside the castle, which was really funny. This was the sixth episode, and it was about Hou becoming more like a dog.

To be honest, when I was offered the role, I was unsure whether to accept it. I was in the Land of Light in the past, so I knew that even though he was a Universe Warrior, Don Momotarou was not Momoi Taro, and I was very anxious.

However, it was the 50th anniversary production of my favorite Super Sentai series, and I was playing the role of Legend Red. I was unsure until the end, but I couldn't lie to myself and say, "I want to do it!", and I took on the role. I'm proud that I was able to help the other five warriors get started, even if only a little.

I would have liked to stay with them until the end, but maybe I can still be there! This is the time to show my 5000% approval rating! The sun in everyone's hearts will light a fire in my heart!

So I sincerely hope to be able to appear again (laughs)

Thank you!
Atami Tokonatsu! Don Momotarou!

==============

I never even finished Zyuranger but seeing Daizyuzin and Tyrannoranger still had me hyped somehow.

Also maybe I'm just weird, but I think Gozyu Unicorn's acting is... Underwhelming.

The fact that DonMomotaroGuy WASN'T just pulling a con to backstab them was the biggest swerve in the entire episode. Every episode we've seen him in before has been him being a slimy conniving backstabber like GozyuBlack, but then we throw out all his previous characterisation and have this goofy episode where people play house and he just wanted a friend?

Then they pull Daizyujin out of their ass 30 seconds later. Like this just feels sloppy, DonMomotaroGuy runs off-screen, he's gone from the show, cut to Daizyujin and we have TyrannoRangerGuy immediately sliding into the spot that just opened up, episode ends. I hated this exact sort of thing in King-Ohger, where you have an episode(s) long plot, then it's getting resolved but before you can even absorb the resolution of what just happened we have a 30 second plot twist out of nowhere to set up next episode.

Boy, does this episode leave me with mixed feelings.

Right off the bat, I feel like I've missed an episode. The opening act in this episode is practically a non-sequitur coming from the last one. The prime minister of Japan has been running around as a superhero for months, and only now does anyone take issue with it? And then he immediately jumps to the villains' side, even though he was more of an anti-hero to begin with. I'm suffering major tonal whiplash here, and I'm only 2 minutes in!

And then 10 minutes later he's performing a massive heel-face turn!? In fact, up until Fire Candle attacked, what part of this whole ordeal actually required the villains? This episode could have cut out everything about him allying with the Bridians and nothing would have changed. He's perfectly capable of harassing the Gozyugers and erecting his castle on his own. (Also, why does granting his wish to be his friend require beating him in combat?)

Being that we're only 6 episodes in, I presume this is always what they wanted to do with Tokonatsu (rather than being some kind of last-minute rewrite). But yeah, the road from there to here is missing some parts.

Past that, I guess this is the requite silly episode after the modestly heavy episodes 4 and 5? I'm not huge on silly episodes to begin with, so this episode isn't earning any extra points there, but I don't mind them if they're done well. With that said, playing house does not tickle my funny bone. In fact it's rather cringe, which is something this episode is even hanging a lampshade on with its choice of music when that trial is revealed. Some of the smaller moments do work, however, such as Yellow clobbering the Aiis in dodgeball. Come to think of it, this is the first time we've seen him use his strength in combat; though I'm sure the writers are going to just as quickly go back to ignoring it since it's ridiculously overpowered.

In the middle of all of this insanity, we have Hoeru's expanded backstory. And that's actually neat! Being lost in the enemy dimension for 10 years - and losing an older brother in the process - is an interesting concept. And one I don't think Sentai has quite done before (some of the sixths have weird backgrounds, but the core 5 are normally more straightforward). I really hope this pays off with some interesting developments. And in the meantime it confirms that the No-Ones already exist in the No-One World - so despite the "generative" keyword, they aren't being created for the first time when they enter the human world.

That he hasn't visited his parents after he returned is a bit harder to process, though. And I'm wondering if this is where I'm just too far removed from the target audience to appreciate it. As an adult it's utterly stupid not to tell your folks that, after missing for years, you're still alive. But kids do worry about being replaced, be it with younger siblings, or in the case of divorce, whole families.

Rounding out the package, we have the introduction of Tegazord's final form - and for that matter, the Gozyugers fight the third (and currently final) enemy general. Including close-up shots of the Tegazord and KnifeCake, this is another fight that's relatively light on the live action elements, with just 35 seconds of footage. About as much time is used for (non-stock) CGI in various forms. I'm not particularly impressed with the horse zord (oh god, Black is a horse girl! Run!), but I do like her drill arm. How can you not love giant drills as weapons!? :D Meanwhile, even if the live action footage was sparse, there was clearly a lot of effort put into it by the crew - as evidenced by things such as the low shots of the forest and the trees getting cut - so they made those precious seconds count. Part of me wonders if the time limits here were because the KnifeCake suit isn't meant to take a beating like the dedicated robo suits, but I digress...

The ground battle was also pretty well done. The tag battle had some good handicam work when following Red, and the next shot was a relatively long cut there of Red and the Aiis duking it out. It's not complex, but it stands out in a good way. And the fight outside of the castle was done well, too. This is the first time we've seen Fire Candle fighting on the ground, and while the stunt choreography does take efforts to limit how much fighting he's actually performing (e.g. panning to him after an attack), the actor puts in his dues. Especially when Don Momotaro launches off of him!

The end result is that this episode has a pretty wild mix of good and bad moments. It does a poor job of getting everyone from A to B, but once everyone is actually at point B, it does start to come together.

Apparently sequins are in again?
You can use Sentai Rings to create castles now? This is a parody of Takeshi's castle, I presume?
Sentai Rings can apparently do whatever crazy thing the writer wants. I don't want to punish creativity, but at the same time, most of these special abilities have been rather disconnected from the series itself. It's quickly getting as bad as Ryusoulger's key-of-the-week.
I keep forgetting how cool No-One World is
I really wish they'd expound upon it a bit more. It looks like a modern, technological civilization. And people clearly live in it. So what awful thing makes it a bad place?
Wait, the commander became a giant?
Well there's no reason to make a combat robot for the character that is already a suit. So from a production POV, it makes sense. Also, I have my doubts we'll see KnifeCake fighting all that often.
Wow, proper uniform for the girl.
Were you expecting otherwise? All 5 of them have been wearing practically (and I'd hope not actually) the same thing.
Wait, so what was the point of that. The commander was defeated, but clearly isn't dead yet.,,
Just like the rest of the commanders, they all get defeated and are forced to retreat. It's not time to actually kill any commanders yet...
Agreed in full. Tokonatsu story doesn't really work here, but they certainly try.
We really need to cycle around to a Yellow focus episode. Of all of the core 5, his introductory episode was the weakest/least-focused. Which is a big part of why he's mostly comic relief thus far: he doesn't have anything else going on.

I'll give it a few more episodes, but I suspect you're going to be proven right here.

Agreed. How they got there is utter balderdash, but it works for each of them to make what's essentially their first friends in each other.

It's my understanding that Toei only has the refurbished hero suit, and that they don't have a separate combat suit. So if these suits are ever used for filming, it can't be for complex actions and great lengths must be taken to avoid damaging the suit.

>Right off the bat, I feel like I've missed an episode. The opening act in this episode is practically a non-sequitur coming from the last one.

lol welcomed to Inoue's wild ride

>Being that we're only 6 episodes in, I presume this is always what they wanted to do with Tokonatsu (rather than being some kind of last-minute rewrite). But yeah, the road from there to here is missing some parts.

I dunno, people can debate how consistent it is, but he's always been pretty straight and to the point and useless to our heroes. I'm a little surprised that he didn't have an ulterior motive, but I'm not that surprised given how much help he's been to Red and Black

>In the middle of all of this insanity, we have Hoeru's expanded backstory. And that's actually neat! Being lost in the enemy dimension for 10 years - and losing an older brother in the process - is an interesting concept.

So we think Bouquet is Unicorn's sister, but do we think FireCandle is Hoeru's brother?

>That he hasn't visited his parents after he returned is a bit harder to process, though. And I'm wondering if this is where I'm just too far removed from the target audience to appreciate it. As an adult it's utterly stupid not to tell your folks that, after missing for years, you're still alive. But kids do worry about being replaced, be it with younger siblings, or in the case of divorce, whole families.

Yeah, that part is the hardest to swallow, it didn't help they just breezed past that development
I keep forgetting how cool No-One World is
I really wish they'd expound upon it a bit more. It looks like a modern, technological civilization. And people clearly live in it. So what awful thing makes it a bad place?

Yeah, don't jsut tell us a group of kids died there. Why is this spooky forest a spooky forest?
Wow, proper uniform for the girl.
Were you expecting otherwise? All 5 of them have been wearing practically (and I'd hope not actually) the same thing.

I would have bet you 100 bucks that her version of the outfit was just short shorts, and I probably would have won in the past

>We really need to cycle around to a Yellow focus episode. Of all of the core 5, his introductory episode was the weakest/least-focused. Which is a big part of why he's mostly comic relief thus far: he doesn't have anything else going on.

hopefully it's something good besides "I have daddy issues"

Good eye! I missed that the first time. That's a nice little touch.

green this year might be the stand out in every category

Someone also pointed out that GozyuBlue covered his ears when GozyuRed howled, because Blue's super power is enhanced hearing.

Love these little details.

6 episodes in, and I really don't think I'm feeling it this year. There are things I like about this season, but there are still so many unanswered questions that, when combined with the near-breakneck pacing, make it difficult for me to keep up.

Like, what happened to the backstory of some great calamity wiping out all of the giant robos only for TegaSword to show up and save the day? I feel like it hasn't been mentioned since the first episode which feels extremely odd. Compare that to the Great Legend War in Gokaiger, where you felt the presence of the War's aftermath in damn near every episode.

Truly, the best parts of the episode imo were the design of TegaSword Black and the appearance of Not-TyrannoRanger piloting Daizyuzin (Drifter ver.). Having grown up watching PR, seeing those suits in HD brought a smile to my face, but not enough of one to save the episode overall.

I really don't want to end up dropping the series, but it's got a lot of work to do to get me invested.

Six episodes in, and I'm already tired of this sentai. Can we get back into the story of the Robo Apocalypse already?

I want to say that wouldn't work since they've seen each other before and we have no hints that FireCandle is suffering from amnesia or anything like that. He just really wants to fight Wolf.

I'm always curious about what the Japanese audience top Super Sentai series are. I know that the West holds ZyuRanger in high regard since that was the original basis of Power Rangers but does Japan hold it in the same regard though? It's something I always wonder about and rather topical with the appearance of DaiZyuJin and its awesome cape.
