Who's this dude dressed like this? At a glance I thought he looked like LupinRed but I guess not
Of coures all the dinosaurs are together
I do like the bell guy ringing his own head to start the fight
Hmm, looks like this episode is who can sekuhara Sumino the most?
Oh fuck, will this loner team learn to be a team? Thank goodness this kid was there to straighten this grown ass man up
Is that all blue? I don't know if this is any new information?
Is that Midorikawa voicing that monster?
the most awkward rollcall in history
oh, never noticed black's chest plate has a pink circle. did they adjust the ryusoulger suit to fit unicorn's suit actress? this one looks more like similar body types
The opening theme is so good. TyrannoRanger's sword looks good
Will have to look up which sentai reference this week's gold aii is based on
she had glassses and a game? fujoshi stereotype??
An amusing episode. I dunno, between the accent and the weirdly dyed hair, TyrannoRanger lost a lot of appeal to me when he became unmasked. But no major complaints about t his episode, which is always nice
Okay is this guy Hoeru's brother? first impressions, suit is cool. Hope we get the henshin lesson out this week since this guy is teased there first

No, I have a major complaint here. Why the fuck are we doing a "hey let's learn to work as a team" episode when 2/5ths of the team are off playing dress-up with the MOTW?
Also: is it okay that they had all their lighting equipment in shot for the final battle? Did no one feel like moving their shit or something?

7 episodes in it really feels like the team barely know one-another. I feel like the Donbrothers were more of a team 7 episodes in, and that's a show that made a point of keeping them apart.Lunagel wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 7:17 pm No, I have a major complaint here. Still nice to see Tyranno Ranger and Daizyujin in HD though. I love seeing old suits in use. I watched the Kakuranger 30th anniversary yesterday and loved it for a similar reason.

it is what it is, Daizyujin not being CG was awesome, the Tyranno Ranger was pretty cool.
I'm just not a big fan of idol stuff, I think the culture around it is pretty horrid.
New bad guy look cool, is it the brother already? sure looks like it lol didnt expect it to be this quick, iIwas kinda hoping he might have been the 6th

Re: Gozyuger 07 discussion thread
Not to harp on the episode, but why is Rikuo hanging out with Sumino at the beginning of this episode? Does he smell a case and want to help out? Is he stalking her? The fact that we don't know makes me feel very uncertain about his character, which is already hidden behind a facade of idol bs
Or it could just be chalked up to lazy writing, and they just wanted the Rikuo doll to clash with the Sumino doll

Re: Gozyuger 07 discussion thread
I know this is the first series that Akiko is the main writer. With a large amount of plot and cast, she has a lot to do.
Compared to Komura Junko's first series as the main writer, Zyuohger, the amount of cast, plot, and hidden meaning in that series is nothing compared to Gozyuger. Both are Anniversary, but I currently find Gozyuger more interesting than Zyuohger, and Zenkaiger (also written by Junko and also Anniversary).
But compared to Donbrothers, Gozyuger is boring to watch. Donbrothers has a more attractive cast, villains, and plot. Especially the cast, everyone has interesting personalities. As for Gozyuger, the cast is terrible, especially Blue, Yellow, Black. Red's personality is also not attractive. The villains are also not as good.
I hope Akiko can improve in the future. But I'm afraid that with the current plot-cramming situation, this series will increasingly fall behind Donbrothers.

Re: Gozyuger 07 discussion thread
Oh, Inoue actually addressed (kind of) the thing about the Gozyugers are the only ones with colors, while all the others are only reds. I was willing the bet that it would never be addressed.
There's no suitable blue food so they just stick a blue flag on the omurice. It could be any color by this logic.
The real world explanation of Hoeru not getting any rings was just because there weren't anymore dino sentai.
DaiZyuJin's suit and actions are so crisp. Too bad it barely got any screen time.
Midorikawa Hikaru, one of the voice actors where I can instantly recognize without looking it up. Such an iconic voice actor.
For an episode teaching the group about teamwork, 1/3 of the team is not present? Making omurice doesn't really demonstrate they needed each other's strength to work as a team either. They acted like Green was getting watery eyes cutting onions because his power is super sight, and Yellow has the brains to identify the cause and Red to act as the muscle to take over. But that's not how cutting onions works, everyone get watery eyes cutting them.
This feels like 2 episodes forced into one. The Blue and Black bonding can be a totally separate episode on its own.
But ok, this cicada did made me lol

Fun trivia. The MC grunt was of course based on Goseiger with the name "Mic Goseic". But get this, the mic he was using was this Goseiger toy called "Gosei Mic".

Daizyujin
The one who came to Tegasword Black's rescue was none other than Daizyujin. Who would have thought that putting on a cape would make him look even cooler? Daizyujin has incredible potential! The idea of wearing the cape was suggested to Effects Director Butsuda by Producer Matsuura. Effects Director Butsuda was skeptical at first, wondering if it would turn out as well like in an anime. But his filming skills are as impressive as ever, and the end result was shockingly cool!!

New Ring Warrior, Ousai Meguru
A new ring warrior appeared. His name is Ousai Meguru, who wields the Tyranno Ranger Ring. The Tyranno Ranger Ring gives it's user the special ability "Restore". With this power, Ousai was able to restore the Daizyujin, who was supposed to have been destroyed in the "Universe War".
Ousai is a university professor who studies "Sentai Archeology". He is played by Ueda Kandai-san! By the way, screenwriter Inoue-san said she had the image of the man be a "Japanese Indiana Jones," so the staff incorporated that image into the costumes.

So, to summarize the settings for Gozyuger that Ousai-sensei so kindly explained to us:
- The Gozyugers are the only ones who can unite with Tegasword and board the cockpit in what is known as the full attire. Tyranno Ranger did not become one with Daizyujin, so he piloted Daizyujin in their fully transformed suit.
- The Gozyugers are the only Sentai with five colors. The only other Ring Warriors are Red.
The Number One Showdown
The voice of MC Mic Goseic is provided by Shiono Junji! Shiono-san was also the narrator for Kamen Rider Geats! We were fortunate enough to have him take on an operator role this time as well!
It felt like the cicada-don(kabedon) took over the show...

I kind of wonder if these are meant to be replicas, since the cockpit is the same as the Tegasword ones

Re: Gozyuger 07 discussion thread
For better or worse, this episode is all over the place.
Following last week's relatively light episode, I thought they may go back to something a bit more serious on episode 7. And sure enough, they technically did with the team (okay, some of the team) being taken to task for not being a team. But then you have the A-plot with Rikuo and Sumino getting dragged into the MOTW's entirely unrelated shenanigans. Only to pull a 180 at the end by having one of the ring warriors shot through the chest!
Every bit works to some extent. But if we run with the omurice analogy, it's like someone put sweet tarts and a whole bay leaf into the meal. They're all delicious things that don't work in this specific combination. And because it's the B-plot, the team-building exercise gets the short end of the stick in terms of runtime, which makes the whole thing underbaked and not very impactful to the viewer.
Though not to knock the episode entirely. We finally get a more fleshed out backstory for Rikuo - offering a bit more detail in how he had been disgraced - which is something the show badly needed. Unfortunately, it doesn't do much to elevate him above being comic relief (though that's a task all 5 seem to share this season), but at least it's proof that he has a heart.
As for the Tyranno Ranger bit, I won't pretend that it's not amusing to see the suit in action again. While this series isn't drinking from nostalgia trough as hard as Gokaiger, it's definitely drawing from it, so it does need to do the nostalgia well. And, similarly, it's hard to complain about seeing the Daizyujin suit again after what, 13 years?
I am kind of growing tired of the AU Sentai warriors, though. It's not Tyranno Ranger in any way, it's just another dude with absolutely nothing to do with the series donning the suit. It makes for kind of an empty experience, even though the lesson about needing to work as a team was a badly needed one. I will give the show credit for making sure it remains distinct from Gokaiger by not bringing in a ton of Sentai cameos, but the flip side to that is that those cameos were the connective tissue that made the nostalgia elements work.
In any case, introducing a ring with the ability to repair any giant robot at only 7 episodes in seems like a big gamble. The core premise of the mysterious Universe War was that all of the giant robos were wrecked - that it was a pyrrhic victory to stop an unstoppable enemy. The rings were scattered, which is why we're seeing the AU Sentai warriors now. But the bots are all supposed to be sitting in a pile, very, very dead. Why care about the Universe War if there's already a ring that can fix the bots?
Despite all of this, parts of the episode does work, so it's not a total flop. But the moment you so much as tap any part of the plot, the veneer starts to crumble away. So I'm with Yaiba here: this felt like two episodes smashed into one.
Conversely, it's interesting to note that the crew went all-in on the pyrotechnics for Tyranno Ranger getting shot through the chest. Those are old school squib packs being used on both his back and his chest! There are no CGI explosions here. And since it was a side profile shot, this was one of the rare times where you can clearly see the packs before they go off.
In some respects, the A-plot was a toned down version of that episode (though without all the suffering for Red).

Donbrothers made a point of making all of the other team members retainers/servants for Momotarou. So even though they weren't really together, they were all united by the need to serve their tyrannical master. Gozyuger doesn't have the same kind of glue; all of the rangers are serving at the behest of Tegasword, but each to their own end. As a result there's no leader for the team - the series has worked very hard so far to make sure that even Red isn't really in charge.HowlingSnail wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 10:05 am7 episodes in it really feels like the team barely know one-another. I feel like the Donbrothers were more of a team 7 episodes in, and that's a show that made a point of keeping them apart.Lunagel wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 7:17 pm No, I have a major complaint here. Why the fuck are we doing a "hey let's learn to work as a team" episode when 2/5ths of the team are off playing dress-up with the MOTW?
The only thing that makes the slightest bit of sense is that it was an intentional set dressing choice. Which is to say that they didn't accidentally leave the cameras in, but rather purposely put them in there to give the shooting location some additional flavor. I don't know anything about this location other than that it's clearly a plaza of some kind, so maybe there's a business reason in its day-to-day use that is the inspiration for decorating it that way?takenoko wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 3:31 pm That's... baffling. It's not like a coffee cup, it's right there. How did the cameraman not point that out
Yeah, that's another good question of many. I suspect you're right, and that it's just doing the bare minimum to setup the character pairing they wanted for this episode.takenoko wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 7:02 pm Not to harp on the episode, but why is Rikuo hanging out with Sumino at the beginning of this episode? Does he smell a case and want to help out? Is he stalking her? The fact that we don't know makes me feel very uncertain about his character, which is already hidden behind a facade of idol bs
Or it could just be chalked up to lazy writing, and they just wanted the Rikuo doll to clash with the Sumino doll
Agreed. I'm a bit surprised it was addressed at all. It was all ridiculously convenient exposition from a source with the flimsiest cover story to know all of these things. But I appreciate that it is getting addressed in some manner. Throwaway lines and the like are important tools for building the world for the viewers.Yaiba wrote: Mon Apr 07, 2025 9:41 am Oh, Inoue actually addressed (kind of) the thing about the Gozyugers are the only ones with colors, while all the others are only reds. I was willing the bet that it would never be addressed.
It can't be helped, I imagine. That's clearly the hero suit, so it can't be used for any heavy action. It's a damn fine suit, though; it's a bit worn (such as the paint on the shoulders), but Toei has done a good job overall in maintaining it.DaiZyuJin's suit and actions are so crisp. Too bad it barely got any screen time.
I have no idea who the actor is, but the voice, oh man do I recognize that. Of course, this meant that the whole time he was doing his schtick, all I could think about was the sleazy purple butterfly MOTW from Akibaranger.Midorikawa Hikaru, one of the voice actors where I can instantly recognize without looking it up. Such an iconic voice actor.

IMHO, Toei got about 80% there, but they missed the last 20 percent. Indiana Jones wasn't just a professor of archaeology, but he thrived in the field. So all of his clothes had a worn look to them. Meguru, on the other hand, looks like he never leaves the library, with his neat and clean tweed suit. If anything. he looks more like The Doctor (particularly the Eleventh Doctor), or The Librarian (a character that distinctly lacked Jones' action skills).New Ring Warrior, Ousai Meguru
Ousai is a university professor who studies "Sentai Archeology". He is played by Ueda Kandai-san! By the way, screenwriter Inoue-san said she had the image of the man be a "Japanese Indiana Jones," so the staff incorporated that image into the costumes.
I'd think it's more just a lack of the sets for the actual cockpits. This show only has one standing set to being with (the CGI sets would technically be a type of swing set), so they're reusing the CGI cockpit while handwaving the whole thing.takenoko wrote: Mon Apr 07, 2025 3:02 pm >A new ring warrior appeared. With this power, Ousai was able to restore the Daizyujin, who was supposed to have been destroyed in the "Universe War".
I kind of wonder if these are meant to be replicas, since the cockpit is the same as the Tegasword ones

Yeah, that's totally fair. I have a feeling we were supposed to like the ZyuRanger guy more before he was killed off, or probably just grievously wounded since it's a kid's show. But none of that guy's stuff was charming or came together for me. It's like Boba Fett being cool, then Jango Fett removing the helmet and removing all mystery and allure from the character
>Though not to knock the episode entirely. We finally get a more fleshed out backstory for Rikuo - offering a bit more detail in how he had been disgraced - which is something the show badly needed
That's true, but also still kind of vague and not much more than the limited backstory we were drip fed all these weeks. It's all stuff that we knew or was sort of implied, so it's not technically new information, which takes away any sort of bite it could have had. I still sort of don't like the guy because I still don't think he's dropped his shallow facade, so I still don't know him
>It makes for kind of an empty experience
as does a lot of Toei's nostalgia baiting.
>Why care about the Universe War if there's already a ring that can fix the bots?
hopefully the limitation is that it can only duplicate one robo at a time
>As a result there's no leader for the team - the series has worked very hard so far to make sure that even Red isn't really in charge.
Ah, I didn't even think about that. But yeah, they're really trying the "a band of cast offs united by a united interest" thing. I don't think it's totally working, but conflict between characters is a dynamic
> Throwaway lines and the like are important tools for building the world for the viewers.
That said, I'm sad the worldbuilding is done in such a way that it limits what can be done in the future. Like why not just make it so any ranger can show up who seems like a good fit for the story/plot of the episode?

In some respects, the A-plot was a toned down version of that episode (though without all the suffering for Red).
he's a big voice actor, he's probably been in thousands of anime since the 90s

I was surprised by this trivia too, talk about an intent that didn't get fleshed out lol

Re: Gozyuger 07 discussion thread
While this episode wasn't 'bad' per se, it did feel very disjointed. The two plots had nothing to do with each other, the team up plot felt rushed, and the resolution was just...meh.
As someone who was introduced to Tokusatsu by Power Rangers, it felt nice seeing DaiZyuJin in action alongside TyranoRed, however, the Sentai Archaeologist felt slapdashed into the story just to get the characters on the same page.
I do wish we delved a bit deeper into the whole 'heart-pounding' case Sumino was looking into at the start, maybe even have Riku and Sumino travel into the game so the Heart Pounding aspect of the MOW was more relevant.
Aside from the words used, is there a difference between 'heart-pounding' and 'heart-throbbing?' I'm not sure why, but the use of 'heart-pounding' didn't sit right with me this episode.
Is it bad that I wanted pink to Powerbomb the MOW when he pulled that Cicada Don?
[New bad guy shows up and assassinates TyranoRed]
Me: He's Wolf's brother, isn't he?
[Preview for next week's episode shows up]
Me: Called it.
Another commenter last week talked about how this show will introduce a new plot at the end of the episode and not handling that well, and I agree. I find myself comparing it to Gavv in that aspect, since Gavv does a great job at introducing new nuggets at the end of each episode that keeps me interested, whereas in this show I just want them to get to the Universe War.
