Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
There's an episode late in the series where Midori tells Asumu about Hibiki's history, how he was a cowardly boy as a child and such. As I recall, she mentions that he regretted his ways of not-helping, and "decided" to become an Oni, as if he just one day began training on his own, and it happened somehow. I believe he was supposed to be proof that you can get to where you want to go in your own way, without having to do things the way other people say. Something along those lines to cheer Asumu up about his failings at something.
Admittedly, it was in the latter half of the series, so who knows what Hibiki's history vaguely mentioned in the early episodes was supposed to have been? Much like how Zanki was supposed to give his name to Todoroki, because he got it from his own master, and so on, but then his master abruptly became an "evil" Oni chick.

that doesn't mean he didn't have a master. Asumu and Kiriya decided to become oni as well.

Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
I recently finished watching the whole series so I can tell you that the conversation about Hibiki becoming a self-taught Oni happens in the second to last episode (episode 47) between Hibiki and Midori.dancercotillion wrote:I'm sorry I can't quote the episode exactly, a'ight? I had my reservations about watching this show but I stuck with it and I am glad I did. The controversy surrounding the "real ending" of the series doesn't bother me. Having Asumu eventually become an Oni is more about wish fufillment than anything else. I believe the script for the final episode was rewritten so many times because the writers couldn't find a way to adequately justify Asumu becoming an Oni. At not point in the entire series did I believe that Asumu truly wanted to become an Oni. Making him an Oni at the end would have been very cheap and shallow.
My only problem with the last episode lies in the "unfinished" plot surrounding the villians. I don't mind that the villians are never truly defeated. It just bothers me than there is no explanation about their origins and motivations.

Perhaps their origin is as old as man versus animal. Just a species that has always preyed upon humans

Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
Originally I thought they copped out of a true ending like they did with FAIZ but in retrospect it makes sense that as long as Makamou exist there must also be oni. The existence of one gives reason for the other to exist.
And really in the end Oni v. Makamou isn't the real story in Hibiki. It is a just a plot device. The real story is about Hibiki helping Asumu become a man.

Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
I loved this show! I got hooked on first episode! Hibiki has such a charisma! It is hard not to be friends with him. His sister were lovely as well. And I agree that Hibiki being a mature and experience character made it better to watch. And to see all the riders, or Oni, fighting together, not against each other, was cool.
I hated when they made the changes to the show. I don't think I add anything else to what already had been said here about Kiriya .
And I really loved the opening song in the first part of the show! Not only the song, but the opening itself! Why did they changed it?? What dragged my attention to Hibiki in the first place was the opening. I had an good experience with Kabuto and I thought this would be a good show too (I know, I am judging the book by its cover)
Well never mind that. The next show on my list is Ryuki. I hope it will be as good as or even better!
Thanks again TV-N!

Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
I just finished watching Hibiki this weekend and I have to say what the heck is that ending I would have liked to seen more of the riders, considering theres supposed to be eleven in the first place. It was nice to see Kyusoke henshin and into an actual suit, like the silver, not just nothing like Akira did when she henshined. The ending could have been better in my pov because it feels like it left stuff on I mean did Hibiki continue into a second season or something because it introduced us to those two new villians, looks like we'll never know.

Re: Hibiki Series Discussion
Hibiki was the first Kamen Rider series I ever saw from premiere to finale.
I really liked how it was more of a coming of age story. It sets it a part from the other Kamen Rider series that are more action focused.
